I could find the post links if I have to but it has been determined that these adjustments no longer function well. I believe I also have posts on this as well over on the 104th for their Mustangs terrain MOD.

When is the last time you changed values and compared screen shots? I have this all posted up on the 104th by the way.

 

I used that modification for a while around the time I posted my findings, so roughly a year ago. A short while later Starway's textures were released and I used them (and Mustang's) ever since.

GMT 7.0 Barthek ground texture files and or script file changes, display the ground more uniform like in the IRL images I have to say.

Tip: Remember to disable the mod using JSGME when updating DCS and if playing multiplayer.

 

JSGME is for managing any Mods if the mod is setup for JSGME

Thanks for the tip David OC, I have tried using the FLIR with and without any MODS, some people can see targets fine, I can not. I know this because I was always flying in a group and we would broadcast SPI's to each other and some guys could see the targets, some could not. I tried making all kinds of TAD adjustments, then started tinkering with the Noise in the .lua file. It never accomplished anything. IO just gave up on the A-10C after the many years of flying and jumped back in the KA-50 for now until I find a resolve. The point I was making here that making adjustments with the Noise used to have an impact up until a couple of months ago, then it became apparent that it no longer had an impact. Has it reverted back in the last few months? I dont know, I have not tried.

Not played with any of the file settings "Low.lua, Medium.lua, High.lua, Ultra.lua or Extreme.lua"

These files are set differently tho when I looked and compared Barthek's and Starway's mod folders.

 

Like I said this may all change when ED releases the new Caucasus map, that is getting a complete overhaul. Plus we are not sure, but we can hope that some of the new F/A18 tech will be retrofitted to the A10.

 

You have to understand how programmers think.

 

If it works as intended by the programmer, then it is technically not bugged.

 

In this case, for simplicity and probably implementation costs ED chose to implement FLIR as a color filter. That is (in simplified terms), the shade of green that most ground vehicles sport is mapped to white, everything that is not that shade of green is mapped to black (obviously with transition in between and the ability to switch polarity for BHOT).

 

Everything that has the same color as most ground vehicles will appear hot for that matter. That in itself is not a bug, but a side effect of the simplified design.

 

To truly emulate FLIR, one would have to retexture every 3d object in the game for the infrared spectrum. You can imagine what a herculean task that is.

 

The next chance where this *might* happen is possibly with the F-18, as it also features FLIR. Looking at the A-10s product lifecycle, it is simply too much to ask from ED to squeeze so much development effort into a product that is now on "extended support". The F-18 on the other hand is a new product and as such, has much more potential to actually recoup such a development effort.

 

To cut to the chase: Don't expect ED to retrofit a better FLIR render method inside the A-10C project. If you want to campaign, ask them to develop it for the F-18 and retrofit it to the A-10. That has at least a nonzero chance of success.

 

Improved FLIR Simulation

 

 

Hey guys, chances are changes to the FLIR system will be one of the last things to happen with the graphics engine (you want to build your flir system around the new shaders, effects, etc not the old ones and have to redo your work again), once everything is set, they can then work on making FLIR look its best, but this is all guessing on my part, the last news we heard on it is the latest news we have on it, as always, if there is an update on this or any other coming features we will find them in the newsletter.

 

As well... please stay on topic. The guy building submarine models doesnt work on FLIR simulation and graphics shaders, so think about it before using it as your point.

DCS/Config/Terrain/

Go into the file Low.lua, High.lua, Ultra.lua, Extreme.lua (depending on your in-game setting). Play with the noise values.

 

There was a terrain mod thread (unsure which one) where they found good values. Unfortunately a quick search was unsuccessful for me.

Using bartheks GTM 7.0 made a helluva difference for me. I've always been using Starways and PMTC but switching to bartheks' just made all the difference.

Even tho everything might not be as pretty as before (especially when running PMTC) I do value being able to operate higher than general eye-candy :)

will target visibility via tgp be fixed or is there no further a10 development?

 

There's no more A-10C development as such, as far as I can tell.

 

The team is hard at work with the reworked Caucasus terrain, the merge to DCS 2.5 (finally all terrains in one version, yay!), and the F/A-18C.

 

Since the TGP is going to be an important sensor for the Hornet, I sure hope this problem is finally going to get fixed along with the release of the F/A-18. :thumbup:

What do you mean "merge to DCS 2.5 with all terrains in one version"? Is DCS 2.5 going to have the Caucasus terrain?

Ok so assuming that this issue may get fixed with 2.5 and/or the Hornet, which are a long way away, what can be done now to solve this issue with the TGP?

 

Terrain mods might work, but don't pass ICs.

Bad luck for the multiplayer crowd. For singleplayer there are fixes for the visibility lua that help but they don't pass the ic.

On the unofficial roadmap (https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=116893) it used to be written the developpement of a new TGP. Seems they deleted it...
