There are few sounds sweeter than those Double Wasp radial engines. I too cannot wait to hear what it sounds like in DCS. I will be cranking up my volume to max!

This plane is so ugly. I prefer the F7F Tigercat, that's awesome and badass plane

Sweet sweet music of those Double Wasps!

Call me a geek, but I hope we have to baby that engine on start-up!

Small adjustments here and there while she clears the oil out of those lower cylinders... Then roars to life!:pilotfly:

In reply to Silver Dragon's post^ I thought the USN desperately wanted 20mm guns in their fighters to take down Kamikaze planes faster?

They did want them, but the American license-built Hispano 20mm's were unreliable. So 6 .50 cals that worked will always be better than 4 20mm's that may not.

By the time they worked out the reliability issues, the war was over and they were on to the F4U-5 and later AU-1.

The F4U-4 is just about th sexiest warbird ever. Those beat up looking ones surplus from the end of WW2 they used in Korea. Just mean unbridled power.

So now we know that is a late F4U-1D model, commonly encountered over Bungo straits, Kyushu, Amami Oshima, Okinawa and so on. I hope that we will see soon some pictures of it :)

So far, I have not seen any references to anything but the F4U-1D, which never saw action in Korea. I'm a little disappointed if that is the case because the -4 would have been so much more "usable" for late war WWII as well as Korean War scenarios but if it is the case, I am really hoping that we get a decent sized map of the Solomon Islands, and I would still fly it in a Korean War mission anyway! :pilotfly:

F4U-4 wasn't really that bird flying there at the end of the war, on board of USS Bennington (VMF-123), Essex (VBF-83), Interpid (VBF-10) or some others you'd find F4U-1D or FG-1D. And thats when we are talking about operations over Okinawa and Japan in 1945.

So considering the Iwo-Jima and Okinawa maps in future the choice is very proper. I'd rather be afraid of the opposition, future Leatherneck modules should bring some high performance Japanese fighters like George or Frank, Ki-100 would be interesting as well.

The only thing I'm really afraid of is the cockpit, the rear view in Corsair (based on Il-2 experiences, so not best source) was terrible. Big plate right behind back, extending over the top of the pilots head obscured that extremely. Unless someone tells you that you got bandit on your tail, you might not even notice that.

If LN (and partners?) indeed plan to fully model Pacific theater of WW2 in the next few years the F4U-1 is indeed the better choice. I would not have expected such a bold move after all the delays with EDGE and DCS WW2: Europe 1944.

But pacific island maps can probably built rather quickly once they are familiar with the process and have a decent library of 3D period objects available.

Me thinks 3rd party devs will handle WW2: Pacific way better than ED handled WW2: Europe "1944"

Me thinks you have no background info on the ww2: europe 1944 "project"

Map building was not the bulk of the delay, I would expect maps to start coming quite a bit faster to us from ED, 3rd Parties will still need to learn the tools and such as well.

Maps like maps, ED did not release a single new WW2 related module in 2015. I remember last year January discussions over P-47 (and how close it is), Spitfires (now being closer), Me-262 and so on - and here we are, a year later, still only talking.

If 3rd party devs can do something with the "tempo" at which new modules are released, I keep my fingers crossed. And because of my personal interests, I'm happy something will be happening around the Pacific.

Anyway, considering the announcement I think it would not be a bad idea to add new subforums in LN section for Viggen and F4U.

Maybe in the future, but the Steam list says F4U-1 - unless there is more to the story. :)

I know...my post pre-dates their recent confirmation of the sub-version - F4U-1D.

However, the changes to create a F4U-1A from a 1D are modest. If LNS created a Solomons map (my original hope from last March BTW), updating their Corsair to go with the map would not be a huge undertaking.

I'm not saying it will happen, but not an absurd idea either.

Fixed that for you....

I didn't even put enough context in my statement for you to draw a conclusion on if something needed fix or not. You don't even know what I have a problem with... spoiler: It isn't the project changing hands.

And before people jump to more conclusions, I do think ED is handling it well... just that it could be handled better.

That's fine with me, miss understandings happen and it's partly my fault for tip toeing around it. I'll, again, reassure you that isn't what I was talking about.....

Doesn't change that I think there are things about the WW2 modules available to us as a whole that leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I honestly kept it short and ambiguous on purpose so we wouldn't have a page long conversation on it but look how that helped. :megalol: I still don't want to, just a passing thought and the F4U and possible pacific theater is more far interesting
