fitness88 Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 What do we do with version 1.5.2. Beta that we've been using now that there will be a separate install of the official release version that came out today? Do we delete it? Also I didn't find any detail info on the official release. Is there a list of improvements over the 1.5.2 Beta? Thank you.
ED Team BIGNEWY Posted December 30, 2015 ED Team Posted December 30, 2015 if you want to continue to help with the beta test keep it, if not remove it. but why not keep both so you can check out the new stuff when it arrives in beta? Silver_Dragon Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 actually has identical, but new version commit to test them before release. DocSigma Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 Also, keeping the beta might expedite the installation of updates to the release version if the existing beta update is already updated with new material. When I updated my release version to 1.5 it detected my updated beta 1.5 and just copied files over to my 1.2 install - everything was already downloaded for my 1.5beta. I'd assume the 1.5 beta will get updated to e.g. 2.0 beta in the not so distant future and it will copy the files from 2.0 Alpha (as did the 1.52 release) so technically 1.5 beta could be uninstalled now and then reinstalled anew when the 2.0 goes to beta. i386DX40@42 MHz w/i387 CP, 4 MB RAM (8*512 kB), Trident 8900C 1 MB w/16-bit RAMDAC ISA, Quantum 340 MB UDMA33, SB 16, DOS 6.22 w/QEMM + Win3.11CE, Quickshot 1btn 2axis, Numpad as hat. 2 FPH on a good day, 1 FPH avg. bart Posted December 30, 2015 Posted December 30, 2015 I deleted the open beta as I thought the 2.0 Alpha would eventually become the new beta? So now I have a fresh install of 1.5 open and 2.0 alpha. If I run with this am I going to miss out on any updates to 1.5.? I thought the whole point in making 1.5 the full release is so ED can concentrate on getting 2.0 to full release? I'm down to 54.9 GB free on my SSD now so not sure if I have room for 3 installs. I just about managed it when 1.2 was full release as it was a smaller size file, but to have 3 installs (1.5 release, 1.5 beta and 2.0 alpha) may push me over the SSD edge!!! Having said that I would like to continue to participate in the beta branch if any further large updates are planned ?? We have no idea right now, but its always possible we will see 1.5.X before 2.0 moves to beta, so yes, its possible you could miss out, but you can always force your main install to update to open beta if you wanted... fitness88 Posted December 31, 2015 Author Posted December 31, 2015 Wow that was all very interesting, thank you! Not being able to use 2.0 yet I think I'll stay with 1.5 Beta. My thinking is that the new stuff will come there first as previously mentioned. What about those who may still prefer flying v.1.2, do they have to update?
cichlidfan Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 What about those who may still prefer flying v.1.2, do they have to update? Nobody ever 'has' to update, but if you play MP then it will be almost mandatory at some point. Otherwise, it is possible to keep as many old versions active as you wish, and your disk space will allow. carlos.gh Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 So when 1.2 copies file from 1.5, does it include modules, installed missions and campaigns and the logbook?
Brisse Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 (edited) So when 1.2 copies file from 1.5, does it include modules, installed missions and campaigns and the logbook? It includes all DLC, such as aircraft, campaigns and terrains, but no personal files like logbook and settings. The personal stuff is kept in another folder: C:\Users\username\Saved Games\DCS Edit: Just to be clear. The DLC will only be copied if they are installed on both versions. If it's not installed on the version you are updating, but it is installed on the other, then it will copy when you click install in the module manager, but it will not automatically install it for you during the updating. BitMaster Posted December 31, 2015 Posted December 31, 2015 I keep all 3 but you must pay attention to MiG21 lic as it has a bug and consumes 1 lic when u change versions.....
