Ohgr
Good Morning Simmers, As you all may have heard the Battle Of Britain Hall is closing this weekend and the Stuka is being disassembled and shipped off to who knows where. Would any of our friends in the UK be able to snap me some last pictures before this happens? I have most of what I need but some close ups would be that much better. What I need is: Wing Control surface Hinges Underbelly Cowl intakes and blisters. Anything else is also great! Thanks for your time guys! Darkwolf
That's quite a late call. I forwarded it around. Maybe you could just give a call there and see where this one is heading in case noone make it in time, or maybe they would allow someone take a picture during disassembly. Fudge
I only found out today through your team. Hopefully it will be moved to another public location. Or made to be airworthy!
5tuka
Or made to be airworthy! As far as I've read they managed to get the engine running by the time the Battle of Britan movie was made but the aircraft was found to be in a too poor state to be airworthy. While I certainly would love to see a Stuka flying it's also important to remember it's the last of it's kind, not to mention with the only (potentially running) Jumo 211 engine. It would be a nightmare losing it after 70 years of carefull preservation. Whereever it goes I hope it will be safe where I can visit it someday, not rotting in a warehouse. NeilWillis
I'm sure it'll go to one of the other Imperial War Museums, so it'll probably go to either Duxford or Cosford, or parhaps even Central London. I wish I could have gone to take the shots at Hendon, but it is a long trip from here, and with such short notice, it'd be impossible to arrange a visit in time. Hopefully a Locally based member will see this, and come to the rescue. I'll keep my eyes on the aircraft press to see what their intentions are, but an exhibit as rare as the Stuka is very unlikely to be put into storage. It also includes a few great cockpit shots of the D-5 showing the front and each side. Puddleduck
I'm sure it'll go to one of the other Imperial War Museums, so it'll probably go to either Duxford or Cosford, or parhaps even Central London. Just to nitpick, the Imperial War Museums are entirely separate from the Royal Air Force Museums. The Royal Air Force operates museums at Cosford and Hendon, on behalf of the Royal Air Force itself. The IWM is a group of 5 partially publicly funded museums but now owned by a government entity. They may loan exhibits but they don't share them willy nilly.
