Reflected Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Hi All, I'm Greg, a long time simmer since the times of AOE and AOP, through Fleet Defender, Rowan's Flying corps, etc... Until now I've almost exclusively flown Il2 BoS this past year, I was a beta tester, and an active skinner, but due to the devs attitude towards certain things I got utterly disappointed. Let's leave this at that, I'm not here to bash them. I just need to take a break and fly something different. I owned DCS for a while, I bought the P-51 at a sale. Never really got into this though. I find the flight models are really good and accurate, even though the ground handling has some room for improvement. I love how all the systems are functional and modeled. Please let me ask some questions, I'm sure I could find the answers by running some searches, but I hope you'll forgive the new guy: - The graphics are somewhat dated, but I see the new 2.0 engine is on its way. Do you know when the basic map and the Mustang will be transferred to 2.0? - I also see that my 3 favorite planes are coming: The Corsair, the Spit IX and mainly, the Tomcat. What are the estimated release dates of these? Even beta releases. I'll buy them as soon as possible.. - How is multiplayer? Currently I'm running the latest version of Beta 1.5. What servers are there to fly the Mustang? - When are some new maps coming? I heard rumors about WWII Normandy, Iwo Jima, Carrier Ops. - I'm looking at the F-86 to buy it at the next sale. Would you recommend it? Thanks in advance for your replies and thanks for having me here! :pilotfly: Greg Facebook Instagram YouTube Discord

Dav IRL Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Agreed, Il2 Bos is complete balls compared to Dcs. Sent from my SM-G900F using Tapatalk 4.8 I7, 1080, TMW&T, SSD, VKB MK.IV.

Download here. http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/world/alpha/ 2. Correct. All are currently work in progress with no official release date. 3. Multiplayer has had a lot of improvements and I find it very stable. No crashes like I use to get with the older versions. There are two servers that I can think of for WW2 flights. "Dogs of war" http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=123074 and "Burning Skies" http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=130161 4. New maps a currently work in progress with no official release dates. 5. It's not my favorite but I really like the F-86 and would recommend it. To me it's fast, smooth, easy and fun to fly. Edited February 4, 2016 by Mike Busutil [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Checkout my user files here: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/filter/user-is-Mike Busutil/apply/

tintifaxl Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 - I'm looking at the F-86 to buy it at the next sale. Would you recommend it? As this plane lacks a proper playfield I would only recomend it, if you enjoy just flying around and/or you don't mind the out-of-place-and-time feeling of the missions in modern surroundings. Drag0nWIng Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 Don't expecting to much, and they didn't say anything or promise anything about released date. And the rules of the DCS is Everything is subject to change, when the day comes, maybe it changes.
AH_Sid Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 (edited) Hi Reflected <S>, good to see you here. Like jcomm, DCS has become my only sim now after moving on from WB/AH/ROF/BOS. If you’re still into skinning, you're going to love it here due the sheer size of the skin files; you can do your skins in amazing detail that would have been lost in the smaller size skins of other sims (see here for an example). You can even personalise your own pilot if you so desire or add your own details and notes the cockpit Personally I'm having a lot of fun with the F-86F, very different style of flying to the ROF Sopwith Camel, but still a simple aircraft to start and fly. Are any of the other HQ boys here? Edited February 4, 2016 by =AH=_Sid
dburne Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 Welcome Reflected! Like some others, DCS has become my only sim now as well. I know exactly what you are talking about. Now that the new Edge graphics engine is here, and 2.0 in Alpha stage with beta undoubtedly coming before too long where 1.5 will be merged into 2.0, a really solid future awaits us with DCS. Great times ahead! The new Nevada map in 2.0 Alpha is absolutely gorgeous. Vitormouraa Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 Welcome to DCS mate! one of the best combat simulator available for public. (for me, it's the best one! but don't tell that to no one, they call me a fanboy..) SplashOneGaming Discord https://splashonegaming.com
dabomb Posted February 4, 2016 Posted February 4, 2016 The graphics are somewhat dated, but I see the new 2.0 engine is on its way. Do you know when the basic map and the Mustang will be transferred to 2.0? The new (Edge) engine was released in October with the 1.5 Beta. You can fly the Mustang in the 2.0 Alpha now, provided you have purchased the Nevada terrain.
Anatoli-Kagari9 Posted February 5, 2016 Posted February 5, 2016 Welcome to DCS mate! one of the best combat simulator available for public. (for me, it's the best one! but don't tell that to no one, they call me a fanboy..) It has actually become my ** only ** flightsim ! It was, during a couple of months, shared with a ww2 sim, but when we look closer into detail, in all aspects, future and stability ( it's lready 64 bit and DX11 ! ), and know about upcoming maps and aircraft, there simply is no other option... Time to dedicate fully to this great sim - and the many modules I wish I can buy in the future, starting with the Spit! Flight Simulation is the Virtual Materialization of a Dream...

Reflected Posted February 11, 2016 Author Posted February 11, 2016 Yesterday I managed to join an online server, and got my first 2 online kills :) I have some more questions that arose, though: 1) how do you chat in MP? I saw the little envelope icon on the left side with messages piling up, but I couldn`t open them, even when I clicked on the icon. 2) How do you select your loadout/ skin/ convergeance in MP? 3) I have really high FPS, but when I flew over water towards mountains, when the reflection of the mountains were visible my fps got really low. Any idea how to tackle this? Facebook Instagram YouTube Discord
Valinor Posted February 11, 2016 Posted February 11, 2016 1) Ctrl+Tab i believe opens the chat. It's a little tricky right now. Either way you can change the key to open the chat for the options, for question 2) also. 2) There is a panel calling Rearming in the control options, on my keyboard it can be activated with LAlt+à, that key is the second to the right of L 3) I have no idea to be honest. In general tho remember to press LAlt+Enter when you load a game to switch from borderless window to real full screen for some more fps
serolrom Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 Hi all as well New one here also. Just took advantage of this thread to say hello. I come from FSX/X-Plane and with DCS I'm having a real blast. Two days already learning the Frog, and I'm ready to start spending money :) Today I'll be upgrading, just that at this point I don't know where to start, considering these options: - A10C - Yes, I like hardcore. - FC - it has planes. An F-15 there, ya know... although I might miss a bit of the hardcore thingy... - Mirage 2000 - Looks nice, but will I regret not having bought the A10C instead? There is already a bomber for free in DCS, and I also want a fighter, but the Mirage is not for me as iconic. But it still looks great... ahhhh... could anyone decide for me? Please? please??????
awjudge Posted February 16, 2016 Posted February 16, 2016 A-10C for sure. It's just such a great model. The depth of immersion is better than any other module in DCS (IMO...) If you have the $$ go for the Mirage, too. It still has some work to be done on it, but it's a nice model and gives you A2A and A2G options. I'm really enjoying it. Just my 2c! New one here also. Thanks for the plain advice. Checking the price, I'll go for some intermediate solution to my indecission: I'll go for the A10C and maybe will also get the cheap F-15. I could do as you say and get the Mirage instead exactly for the reasons you say (nice model and A2A & A2G), but I'm a bit worried about performance. i5, 8GB Ram and NVIDIA GTX750. I'm generally worried about those models who's minimum requirements are already a 2GB video card. I'll eventually have to face it, but I don't want to get frustrating low FPS in my first purchase.
BFBunny Posted February 18, 2016 Posted February 18, 2016 (edited) I just got the Mig 21 and love it! Although the planes like su and f-15 are good platforms to see whether you like the game. I just built a similar spec with a gtx 760 and run 1920 x 1080 on a 32 inch screen Except 16GB ram, SSD and windows 10. I the game is set to medium high with 2x aa and looks good. I'd get a better gpu if you can afford it like a 980 or something. The only real jet fighters with click cockpits are the mirage (I heard we're not supposed to call it that for copyright issues) and the Mig 21. I got the Mig 21 today after several false starts at full price too. It can do close range air to air <10km and ground attack, but it's a mach 2 fighter and not too complex, but it might be a bit marmite to you. They look bad ass in the metal too. The mirage is not finished yet whereas the 21 has had a bunch of patches even after finishing its 2 year dev time. The fc3 fighters while not clickable are good fun for air to air with their bvr capabilities and modern handling. The f-15 and su 23 (damn, the Russian one that's not a mig) have been upgrade with professional flight models so they actually handle like the planes they're based on and there are plans for the mig 29 too. Everything non fc3 is clickable. I played bos a bit, loved and hated it. I thought bos was going to be a study sim (before I even knew what that meant) - All I knew is I wanted click cockpits and bos ended up not being that. There are servers for the ww2 planes, the dora and 109. The 109 in bos is like a pussycat. The 109 in DCS is more like a lion. Landings can be tough to learn. The dora is a nice place to sim. The pit like the short nose version is far better organised than the 109 and is a bit easier to fly. If you're unsure if the warthhog will be too complex there is one in fc3 that from what I gather has similar if not the same flight model to the stand alone version. The fc3 is also an older version. All the planes and helicopters are fun. Depends what you're into. The price looks like wtf, but when you play one of these things trying to explain to the gf why you dropped that much is like asking her why she needs 20 pairs of shoes. Have fun and see you in the skies. Edited February 18, 2016 by BFBunny
