Eddie Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 The axis in RL aircraft can be spring loaded to return to center, thus it only controls the RATE OF MOTION of the antenna, not the actual position. IMHO. That is how it is implemented on the RL F-15. To add another perspective. Typhoon has a free spinning rotary on the throttle with no end stop or limits, and therefore no centre.

Azrayen Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 (edited) Yeah, Tharos is such a knowledgeable people about the Eagle that he's at risk of being Eagle-biased more than the next guy ;) My money on a "Typhoon-like" system for the M-2000C, given the look of the control on the throttle in the Mirage (for elevation only, obviously for azimuth the control is a return-to-center type as it's the same that moves the TDC) Edited April 17, 2016 by Azrayen typo
GGTharos Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 Yeah I'm eagle biased, but it's also the benchmark I'm most familiar with. :) Eddie, that's a good point and I think it's the same on the F-16 throttle as well. :) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] Reminder: SAM = Speed Bump :D I used to play flight sims like you, but then I took a slammer to the knee - Yoda
Zeus67 Posted March 22, 2016 Author Posted March 22, 2016 TDC data: Range (left center) Max search altitude (right top) Min search altitude (right bottom) Altitudes are in Fight Level values e.g: 319 == 31900 feet. Azrayen Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Thanks Zeus! Coming along nicely :) Please see my last note on 33820, there was a mix-up (my mistake). ++ Az'
Voodooflies Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 I find out on DCS that the RDI is still really sensitive to target aspects change, even at same altitudes, no matter how narrow is the Az scan and how close is the antenna elevation from the target localisation. Only shots at less than 10 miles may hit on a maneuvering target going defensive. Is that the real RDI behaviour or is it still WIP concerning that "issue" ? I'm just curious about the phenomenon. Fer_Fer Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 is it just me, or has the Radar screen cursor gotten slower in the new patch?
OldE24 Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 is it just me, or has the Radar screen cursor gotten slower in the new patch? i dont think it's slower but something happens and it moves slower bugs out it seems like....i use RDO alot, but also the Airspeed on the hud and alt changes font sizes sometimes from flight to flight. 8700k@4.7 32GB ram, 1080TI hybrid SC2
Kenan Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Radar is terrible. I'm having problems detecting incoming targets at similar altitude..just plain awful.. OldE24 Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 the radar takes a long time to update when you turn but other then that it works just fine....went 9 and 1 this morning in the 104th...so cant be that bad. 8700k@4.7 32GB ram, 1080TI hybrid SC2
Azrayen Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 the radar takes a long time to update when you turn Agreed. but other then that it works just fine....went 9 and 1 this morning in the 104th...so cant be that bad. In fact its range is too much currently. Yesterday I could detect a friend at 80NM (head-on, iso alt), he was flying an Eagle then a Fulcrum. He saw me at much lesser ranges.
Zeus67 Posted March 28, 2016 Author Posted March 28, 2016 Agreed. In fact its range is too much currently. Yesterday I could detect a friend at 80NM (head-on, iso alt), he was flying an Eagle then a Fulcrum. He saw me at much lesser ranges. Fixed. Now max detection range is 120 Kms (65 nmiles). OldE24 Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 Fixed. Now max detection range is 120 Kms (65 nmiles). yeah figured that. what about RWR update speed? i'm getting locked merging with a guy and the lock is staying for stupid amounts of time it seems also the flickering inner and outter circle but i know this is ALL is Wip, Radar when you move elevation up with axis and lock a target the elevation shows you are looking DOWN and you will loose your radar lock after a few seconds and the radar stays showing looking DOWN instead of up. i'll post a bug report on that one. 8700k@4.7 32GB ram, 1080TI hybrid SC2
Azrayen Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 @ Zeus: Cool; is 65NM against biggest target? VS fighters, I would have chosen a lesser value (i.e. 50-55NM vs a MiG-29/F-16 sized one, 55-60NM vs a bigger Su-27 or F-15). Anyway, good progress :) @ OldE24: Let's stay on radar topic here, shall we? I agree that RWR looks still WIP, but the present thread is already massive so... ;)
gospadin Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 Is an aircraft's cross section/signature considered by radar in the game? Or are detection ranges just hard-coded? My liveries, mods, and missions for DCS:World M-2000C English Cockpit | Extra Beacons Mod | Nav Kneeboard | Community A-4E
Azrayen Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 I remember seeing RCS settings in one of the (then) LO files. But this is one parameter only ;) Radar power, antenna sensitiviy, wavetype, ground clutter... also come into play :)
pered Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 I believe so, if I recall correctly, radar detection is based on RCS values. Gotta catch them all bandits! :joystick:
