Oculus Rift with DCS World Discussion

From what I read on reddit, all pre-orders got it (but not those who ordered after official release).

 

I'm expecting to get processed in the next two or three weeks. Looks like I'll be one of the last as well. According to my original estimate, I'd have had it by now.

Already feel like a second class customer, and missed lots of good experiences due to hearing about them from others long before getting to do it myself.

 

Now I'm just hoping it doesn't turn up faulty. I'm sure I'll like it, though.

Wags said several days ago the menus are fixed on their internal build, but that change hasn't been pushed out in an update yet.

 

 

Thanks Mad Dog, like I said, just missed it I guess. That's more good news in a continual line of good VR news.

 

I've been climbing the walls waiting for the F18 release.... pretty much reached the top, going to have to figure out a way to climb on to the ceiling spider pig style I guess waiting for the VR update. :) Thank Gawd, Wags and the ED team seem to love VR. The speed and transparency of the VR support has been the best I've seen from ED. Can. Not. Wait. until that update pushes out, going to be sweet!

Got my Rift last night and the first thing I wanted to do was load up DCS.

Wow, I cannot believe how incredible it looks, only had a couple of quick flights I was blown away. Easily the greatest addition to flight sims in a long time if not ever.

My CC was charged today and I got email from Oculus saying Rift is about to be shipped! Its getting closer!

I am really having a blast in DCS with the Rift, to the point I haven't really messed with much else. The A-10 is awesome, and the Ka50 is cool as heck too. Blasting low over the Strip in the helo in VR is fun!!!

 

Really looking forward to the improvements that are coming, but they only mentioned them for 1.5.....and hints when they might make their way into 2.02x?

OK....question. You can recenter the cockpit view with KP5, but when I try to use a HOTAS key combo for that, it doesn't work....seems to only work with the keyboard??

Yeah, I love flying the Huey with Rift. It's soooo much easier to fly the bird with VR.

Another item for the VR WISH LIST.....

 

A icon or command line switch that lets you launch DCS in 2D, Non-VR mode for the times you want to use the mission editor or watch a track or whatever else, without having to be in the goggles. That would be nice!!!

Try "Joy to Key" ... its a free Software!

Yes. Very much needed. To bad the Rift doesn't have an on/off switch. Maybe two seperate. Exe launchers for DCS vs the GUI check box? Don't know, but something that doesn't force a restart to turn on/off VR would be great.

 

I just added all the view keys to my VoiceAttack profile last night. Works great, and no wasted HOTAS keys that way.

I believe it was mentioned that this would be mappable to controllers soon.

i use controlMK to map the F5 ket to my hotas.

i hope there will be a patch released to everyone soon with the new VR features!

Never posted in the ED forums before, but wanted to put in my 2 cents on the Rift and DCS as well as ask a question:

I got my Rift locally (paid an extra $50 rather than wait 1-2 months) and have played DCS World 2.0 almost exclusively and all I can say is WOW! It is the experience I always show new Rift users even if they aren't into flight sims.

 

I am using an I7 6700K and a new EVGA FTW GTX 1080. Framerates seem great with max settings flying around Vegas, although I have not actually checked to see what they are. The experience is nothing short of amazing!

 

I am wondering for those who have used the debug tool to raise their resolution/pixel settings: How noticeable is the change and how much of a framerate hit have you seen? I ask because even with models set to high it is still hard to track other planes in the sky due to the default Rift resolution. Thanks!

Increasing Pixel Density does more for reading the text in the cockpit gauges.

Hard to believe you guys don't see a difference. For me the gauges are night and day clearer with PD 1.5 and above. I don't see much past 1.5 myself but the difference from 0 to 1.5 for me is staggering.

I can actually read gauges ok with the default settings. Sometimes I need to lean in a bit. It's the planes in the distance that I have trouble seeing.
