Coug4r Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 So i created this experimental ATIS channel on the server, just wind info for now, and noticed that when a client switches to that channel you don't hear anything. Jugdriver Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 (edited) Ciribob, This is a long shot I know but I figured I would ask. Is there any way you could make a version of Simple Radio that is backward/forward compatible where the older version of .NET was used? The reason I ask is since you moved to use .NET 4.6.2 I can no longer get simple radio to work. The problem stems from the fact that I have never been successful in installing service pack 1 on my windows 7 machine; it did not work when it came out and I have not been able to get it to work recently despite a considerable amount of troubleshooting and without service pack 1 you can’t install .NET 4.6.2. (this was a widespread problem with SP1). I know this is a lot to ask but I figure I would see what you said.. JD AKA_MattE Edited December 13, 2016 by Jugdriver

Ciribob Posted December 13, 2016 Author Posted December 13, 2016 Could you put your code on a branch? :) On a branch here :) https://github.com/ciribob/DCS-SimpleRadioStandalone/tree/inGameOverlay Quick demo video of the overlay in DCS next to the other overlay to show update speed and verify info So i created this experimental ATIS channel on the server, just wind info for now, and noticed that when a client switches to that channel you don't hear anything. Frequency isn't going white eiter, only after pressing the PTT you hear the transmission. Looks like a client won't hear others when it doesn't catch the start of a transmission. There are bigger issues but perhaps you can have a quick peek. Thats odd, I've tested that before locally with a transmission on and picked it up when switching away from the channel and back again. I'll take a look! Crash on startup, installed via client installer. Please update your .NET to the latest one linked on the download page, should solve it :) Ciribob, are you still working together with DArt to make SRS LOTATC compatible? Yes still planned and being looked at :) Ciribob, This is a long shot I know but I figured I would ask. Coug4r Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 Rechecked in an F-15. Got SR running, toggle the overlay on, not touching PTT and connect to a server with autoconnect. Change the freq. to the sending freq, no transmission received. Press PTT and it's there. - If man were meant to fly he'd be filled with helium.
0xDEADBEEF Posted December 13, 2016 Posted December 13, 2016 Small Update Inspired by the Twitch2DCS mod by Jabbers_ https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=178302 I've had a quick go at bringing a very basic radio UI into DCS, which was surprisingly easy now I see how! Massive thanks to Jabbers_ for finding out it could be done! Whaaat? Did I read and see ingame overlay?!? This being possible is a massively valuable piece of info on one hand, and a huge upgrade for SRS on the other hand! This is incredible news  Thank you so much for your effort Ciribob and Jabbers_!

That sounds like the initial ping isn't opening the firewall anymore hence why you have to tap PTT for comms to work. Chicki Posted December 18, 2016 Posted December 18, 2016 No Target Hi. This program looks neat. Gotta problem. Can't seem to run the simpleradio with a Target profile running. Works fine if I take Target out of the equation but the minute I run a profile, simple radio quits. Any help? Sure like to get it working. Thanks.
splash Posted December 20, 2016 Posted December 20, 2016 Hi, would it be possible to save the speaker/microphone selected? In my case, Speakers combo defaults all the time to Digital Output (SoundMax...) instead of Speakers (Sound Max...). Your application is working very well and we are using it in our squadron for several months now. Thanks. 1
Yurgon Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 would it be possible to save the speaker/microphone selected? +1 And +1 also in regards to a great and helpful tool!
Ugene Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 The in & output devices are already saved to the registry. You can press the Preview Button after you selected your devices to explicitly save the device settings to the app configuration. If that doesn't work, your probably have a soundcard where the device name (DeviceFriendlyName) is not unique and SRS detects the wrong device at startup. Workaround: If you don't use/need the digital output you could try to disable it. SRS only detects the active devices.
Yurgon Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 If that doesn't work, your probably have a soundcard where the device name (DeviceFriendlyName) is not unique and SRS detects the wrong device at startup. Quite possible in my case. If have several output devices with similar names: - Realtek Digital Ouput (Realtek High Definition Audio) - Lautsprecher (Realtek High Definition Audio) - Realtek Digital Ouput(Optical) (Realtek High Definition Audio) The middle one is the one my headset connects to, and I always use the preview to make sure I didn't forget to select it, but after every start SRS selects the first one by default. Anyway, some type of enumeration could probably solve the problem. It'd be nice if it worked out of the box.

For someone with a similar problem it helped uninstalling SRS using the installer and re-install it. This will clear your settings so if you have a lot set maybe create a screeny as a backup. Yurgon Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 [...] if you're familiar with regedit you could check HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\DCS-SimpleRadioStandalone to find out what the problem is saving your devices. Interesting. AUDIO_INPUT_DEVICE_ID is of type REG_DWORD with value 0. AUDIO_OUTPUT_DEVICE_ID is of type REG_SZ and the value was "Realtek High Definition Audio" in my case. I ran through several cycles of quitting SRS, changing the value of AUDIO_OUTPUT_DEVICE_ID and starting SRS again to see if it made a difference. In one case I could get SRS to select the third device instead of the first, but never the second (which is the one I need). ;) I then tried fooling SRS by deleting the key and recreating it as REG_DWORD, but SRS just ignored me and changed it back to REG_SZ every time. ;) I uninstalled SRS and made a fresh installation (verifying that the installation folder and reg keys were indeed gone after uninstallation), but the problem remains the same. :( But thanks for the tips, they might have worked.

You could try disabling the device you don't use but obviously thats not ideal. I'll try to take a look. Update on Project in General As you might've noticed, work on this has slowed quite considerably. Fear not, it is not abandoned but due to some fairly drastic changes in my circumstances, time to work on this is currently non existent. The most pressing issue for me at the moment is sorting out where I will live! Once i've managed to resolve some life issues, I will continue on the project. Likely with a fairly drastic rewrite and switch to C++ for all audio and UDP packet handling. Sorry for the not such great news and Merry Christmas! Coug4r Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 (edited) Interesting that it's exactly the one with a german description, yet it has no umlauts or anything. @Ciribob You're not gonna be homeless on christmas now are you? Are you kidding? You're providing an already fantastic tool completely for free, and you apologize for taking things slower when real life kicks in? Man, many people who do take money for their work could use some of this attitude! (Referring to no one in particular, just a general observation). :music_whistling: :D Take care of yourself and don't worry about us, clicking a dropdown menu twice a week is not going to make me appreciate your work any less. You're not from around here, right? Otherwise, I could always offer at least a warm guest bed in Hannover. 1
