I've seen reference to being able to zoom view but can't seem to map it to my Thrustmaster Throttle slider like I did with TrackIR. Is this an Oculus only feature or can the VIVE do it too? And if so can someone point out what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks Jason

Your making statements out of your ass, and I'm sorry I don't know of a better way to say it. I have had both, with a GTX970. The experience in the rift is better. It's not a subjective opinion, but an objective one. Clearer display, better peripheral vision, lighter weight, better audio solution, more features for DCS, cheaper, better performance w/ async timewarp. Like I said, I've had both, have you? Saying that Oculus hasn't been able to deliver is a lie and not a true statement to put on the forum for the community.

I think he meant physical delivery. Until very recently there was quite a bit of back log.

Also, people need to keep in mind that ED started during Rift since DK1.

Did anyone try to use Opentrack with Oculu/Vive for headtracking?

If you use Opentrack you will be able to set natural head move forward as zoom setting up this axes with more then 1:1 same as trackir.

It's a pity that ED is favoring Oculus over the Vive especially that Oculus hasn't been able to deliver. That's why I went for the Vive

I don't think its a case of ED favoring Oculus. Its more a factor of ED having access to Oculus prototypes, and software for a much longer period of time. Not to mention that the Oculus software has had more time to be refined, and is "currently" more capable. That's not to say that OpenVR won't improve, but I see Oculus SDK improving at a constant rate considering the resources Oculus can throw at it.

As of last week, the Rift is delivering as quickly as the Vive - I ordered the Vive Friday, and the Rift on Sunday. I got the Vive that Monday morning, and the rift on Wednesday, so when considering the weekend, about the same time, only a few business days.

In terms of delivering performance - there is NO way I would pick the Vive over the Rift for sit down simulations. IMO the Rift is superior in nearly eveyr way for sit down flight sim games - Elite, DCS, Aces High, FSX, every flight sim I've tried, the Rift wins hands down - for now.

I didn't even know that zoom was enabled now for VR. How does one setup zoom in VR now?

It's in UI layer, but with the Rift (haven't tried with Vive yet), you can use shif+contrl and use keypad */ to zoom in and out as well inside the cockpit.

That function does not zoom the view. It changes the position of the "headset" in the cockpit (forward and back)

With right control + shift you can also use num 8, 6, 2, 4 to change lateral and vertical position.

That's what I meant, I just put it poorly - you ARE technically zooming your view by moving your head forward, and unzooming by moving it back "within the cockpit", which is what I said. The numbers on gauges get larger/smaller as you move your head back and forth, I guess that's why I think of it as zomming within the cockpit - I don't really move laterally, and don't see why you would want to be anywhere but in the center.

I think not. Zooming would change the FOV. Moving the head fore and aft didn't change the FOV therefore you are not zooming.

Actually no, moving your head forward and back is just that, moving your head forward and backward just as in real life. There is no zoom associated with it, just moves your eyepoint a little closer or a little further away - just like in real life.

VR Zoom, assignable in the UI layer, is in fact zoom. Like putting binoculars on to see more distant objects up closer.

Does this only work within the cockpit? I've never actually tried it w/ external views.

It's there. The drop down where you select the airplanes when assigning joysticks etc. Go all the way to the bottom and you should see it there.
