I really want to buy DCS:A10C (I have general knowledge of its systems and how to use it), but I'm only 15 and don't have a job (duh) so I have to suffice with playing LOMAC Flaming Cliffs 2 on a really bad PC with a 6 year old GPU. Is this game going to be obsolete in like the next 10 years?

Don't worry, it will be around for a long time to come. If you can get hold of a PC that will run it and a joystick , I will gift you a copy of DCS A-10C.

PC:

6600K @ 4.5 GHz, 12GB RAM, GTX 970, 32" 2K monitor.

You can probably still find A10C 1.0 boxed version that will run on an older hurting computer.

Min spec is 64bitOS ,WinXp,Vista,or7, dual core 2.0ghz, 3gig ram, and512mb graphic card.

This could get you in the game and you'd be able to transfer A10 license to DCS world later.

Hello MRaza and welcome to the Forums.

First of all I´d like to tell you that you dont need to worry. By the Time you can efford an own PC which meets the technical requirements and you are old enough, the Game will still lack certain Modules. The A-10C will always stick around. Even though that the Warthog Module is meanwhile 6 years old, it is still an important module next to the Black Shark...because they have both been the first ones (with a Little gab of course).

The questions that you should ask yourself are.

how much Money do I Need to be "Combat Rady"?

What you should have to fully enjoy the Game is the Game itself, a decent PC that can run the Game, a HOTAS Joytsick and Track IR. All in all you´ll Need roundabout 1150 to 1200 $ which includes the Game (if someone will give it to you so cancel those 40 bugs) a Gaming PC which dont necessarily need to be the best machine on the market. I have an AMD CPU and a AMD GPU, all in all calulate with 500 -700 bugs for a fully operational PC. Track IR is the only device on market that puts your head in Game and thus still costs 150$ (except the freetrack, but this one sucks). Last but not least you Need a HOTAS Stick. It dont has to be the HOTAS Warthog, the X-52 will be fine enough for the beginning.

Have you already talked to your parents whether they probably can efford a Little of that Money and you´ll pay back later when you earn Money? This will motivate you to still keep focus on School as well ;).

Depending on how high salaries are where you live, you should be able to earn what you need if you work 1-2 months during summer holidays. IDK how old you are, but it's in general a good idea to get at least a little experience working on a job besides school.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

Come let's eat grandpa!

He said he´s 15, and here´s the Problem I suppose. As much as I understand his Situation...life comes first. So my personal suggestion on this matter is to first finish school with the best graduation possible, then make an education or try to get a higher graduation like College or what not. I am sure that your parents will help you out if they see that he cares about his life. So he just needs to talk to them. I know that there´re people around who absolutely hate Computergames or even Games where its about war and such stuff, but at the end its a matter of negotiations.

EDIT: Ok the first post has been edited meanwhile, last time I checked this thread he mentioned his age.

Hey MRaza, I was a kid too when I was starting with flight sims and had the same problem. School topic aside, my passion always motivated me (still does actually) to get what I want.

Anyway, you can answer this question yourself -- by finding answers to these:

How long have you enjoyed LOMAC so far? (released in November 2003).

How old is DCS:A-10C already? (beta access from late 2010).

Intel Ultra 9 285K :: ROG STRIX Z890-A GAMING WIFI :: Kingston Fury 64GB ::  MSI RTX 4080  Gaming X Trio  :: VKB Gunfighter MK.III MCG Ultimate :: VPC MongoosT-50 CM3 :: non-VR :: single player :: open beta

Get an education and choose a field in STEM. If you think affording a computer is difficult now, wait till you have to pay bills!

There are ways to earn some extra cash before you're eligible for W-2 employment. My parents paid me $10 to mow the lawn every week among other chores when I was a minor, for example

As for the original question, DCS is not like a typical video game that goes obsolete after a few years. Flight sims in general have a lot more longevity, and given the extreme fidelity of the A-10 and other modules, it's more likely that the engine will be upgraded to keep up than it is for a complete overhaul to be done. In fact, that's exactly what versions 1.5 and 2.0 are -- an engine upgrade. So my bet is that DCS will still be very much alive by the time you've graduated from high school.

That's just the thing guys. It's a catch 22 situation. Right now, I have the time to play but not the money. I want to become a doctor, and eventually I'll have the money to play but not the time. Doubt I'll have time in college or med school either

Great question MRaza. Welcome to the forum, and rest assured, that if we have our way, when you can afford the state of the art PC, and all the software, the A-10C will be joined by some ace aircraft. Just around the corner are the F/A-18 and F-14A/B for example.

I have a feeling that you'll achieve plenty in the next few years, and even doctors need some down time, so I am sure your hobby will find a place in your life. I wish you well, and success in your chosen career.

been in your shoes before. in fact, we're the same age.

trust me, there'll never be a point where any of the aircraft in this simulator gets old until another sim from another engine comes to top it out in systems modelling. i don't see that coming for a long time, believe me. :)

If you want to talk to anyone about anything personal, send it to their PM box. Interpersonal drama and ad hominem rebuttal are things that do not belong on a thread viewed by the public.

One thing i have to point out... naming a thread.. "OK, so" is as useful as tits on a bull.

You are a bit young yet and I know you mentioned wanting to be a doctor but have you ever thought of joining the military. After spending 23 years active duty myself I can say it was the best decision I ever made. Even with deployment, raising kids, etc., over the years I have been able to enjoy flight sims and in my younger days I had plenty of petty cash for PC gear, it can be done.

I am not sure where you live but in the US, even joining without a college degree, with hard work you can become a pilot if you desire. Why not fly the real thing. Man if I knew then what I know now!

Good luck young man.

Posted (edited)

Just tell your parents you would like to become a pilot, and that all of the pilots on the internet said that they started training with DCS: World when they were 15. Therefore to be a good pilot you need a new computer, Thrustmaster HOTAS, rudder pedals, oculus rift and DCS World A-10C :D Of course if they want you to be a bad pilot they can just get you a Logitech 3D pro joytstick and a trackIR.

And if they don't buy it all for you, you're going to start taking drugs, get facial tattoos, ear and nose piercings and listen to dubstep :P

Also DCS World is an educational game, but your current PC only plays first person murder simulators.

You could also tell them that a nice priest online said he would buy you a new computer if you go and meet him in the woods......

....Enjoy the new PC :)

Edit: Actually the real trick is getting a copy of A-10C for your Dad. He will get hooked and buy all of the stuff for himself, and you'll get to use it all. And if you're really lucky he'll buy two sets of everything so you can fly together :D

@MRaza. Tell us what your specs are. I have a, not very new, but serviceable mobo, CPU, cooler, memory package that is sitting on the shelf. It is an i7-2600k with a Noctua cooler, 8GB of Corsair memory on an ASUS mobo, whose model I don't recall at the moment.

I also have a few GPU's laying around that might serve as well.

I even have an extra PSU if you need it.

PM me and we can work out the details.

This would be a gift, so no money is needed on your part.
