To all of you guys who work hard to make DCS the best flight sim available to the public and better than most commercial sims that I have been in: I cannot speak for everyone here, but I believe that I speak for most of us when I say that we absolutely appreciate DCS, ED, and all of it's affiliated software devs. We know that you guys really work to bring this stuff to us and we love where you are taking this whole thing. I myself have pretty much given up on all other simulators because they're no where near the quality of DCS. Your FM's alone are worlds ahead of any other simulator.

So please accept my whole hearted thanks for what it is that you folks do! Really........

On the flip side I have to apologize on behalf of many of us here. And again, I cannot speak for all, but I am sure that many can agree that at times we (I in particular) can seem impatient with new problems, bugs, and changes that take time to adjust to. Although I know that bugs are going to pop up with these changes. I let my frustration get the best of me sometimes. I'm sure that we can all relate to that. When something works and you are getting enjoyment out of it, then a much anticipated improvement is made available, and it makes changes that you did not expect, or causes unforeseen problems. I for one can get aggravated and tend to forget that it's the nature of the beast. As a result, I make bug reports that sound a little more like complaints than helpful insight. I don't do it intentionally, but it comes off as though I'm blaming ED or one of their subsidiaries for it. And for this I am sorry guys. As I read through some of these complaints and bug reports from folks, I can clearly see the frustration from people, but I believe that this is only because we lose sight of the big picture here and we tend to forget that you guys aren't being neglectful or incompetent. And I am positive that ED looks forward to putting out these updates with enthusiasm, and eager anticipation of making this sim better with each upgrade. And I am sure that there is an equal amount of nervous anticipation over the inevitable bugs and problems that accompany each release.

So from now on, I will make a genuine effort to report things only as I see them and omit words like "disappointed", "unhappy" or whatever. It is disheartening to see those kinds of posts and I can clearly see that they're not helpful. I'll also try and use the proper procedures for reporting bugs and not just post them anywhere. We're all in this together at this point and this community (by and large) is a good one. And even though we are paying you with $$$, you guys are paying us with you labor and time. It's a mutual relationship.

So......Thanks!!!!! And I'll try and do better for all of our benefit from here on in.

Zim,

Include me in " most of us". ED has given us the premier flight sim as far as I am concerned. Their approach at releasing "fixes" and of course, letting us choose as to whether or not we will participate in the Alpha and Beta test beds is really an unusal approach for most sim developers. Yes, resistance to change and confronting "bugs" can get frustrating at times, but I try to look at the offering in it's entirety and let all the plus's keep me from putting too much focus on the negatives. Keeping the "community" happy must be like trying to herd a bunch of cats. Pretty tough, but they (ED) does it as well as anybody.

Nah, overall, ED do a good job in a niche environment. Hat's off to them. Wish them all the best.

Yep, ED have a tendency to go the extra mile - whatever they're doing. We might hate the long waits, but we always get a superb product in the end... So yes, thanks ED!

I have been playing ED games since the 1990s and seen a lot of changes with staff (programming etc) through the years. Their product for me was always way in advance of anything else out there at the time. Flanker 2 and it's massive upgrade to Flanker 2.5 was a great flight sim experience.

Then came Lock On which I personally felt was a rushed out product with a bad publishing deal, I really thought it was the end of ED and the fighter Collection....but low and behold a message came that they were changing their direction and concentrating on high production values for commercial flight simulation with the release of Flaming Cliffs and the development of Black Shark and A10C...hence the birth of DCS.

I remember I posted about having a spitfire modelled in Lock On only to be told it was only modern air combat .."phfffff" I said to myself, it was only a matter of time and I was right :-) big cheesy grin. I am going to make another prediction, I can see that there will be commercial aircraft developed in the future for us people who are not hell bent on blowing things up and shooting anything that moves, hence Digital combat and commercial simulator (DCCS).

I support this simulator above any other even though in my old age it is increasingly becoming very challenging. One day I hope to see the F104, 105, F4 Phantom B,C,D (my favorite plane) but also the Tiger Moth.......one day.

Lastly, I can't see anything wrong with FC3 type modules coming out depicting things like Vietnam and Korea battles for the average simmer, don't forget that market ED ....PLEASE.

Thank you for nearly 20 years of flight simulation with ED and TFC.

This is the only game / flight sim I play. I have tried other games and sims since 1985. ED is the best I have seen. It's a full time job with this hobby learning new stuff, modding it as to suggestions via the forums or Users' files, adding stuff others create and just keeping up.

I did USA Navy and Navy Reserves from 1974 to 1989, one thing I learned there that has probably been handed down for over 200 years, probably dates waaaaay back when, is : "The troops ain't happy unless they are complaining!" I know the Navy did the best they could to always keep us happy AND keep us on our toes ready for anything. Seems this motto serves nicely in most instances to most avenues in the civilian world, too.

Great post! ED and all of the third party developers are keeping the dream alive for many of us who never had the chance to become pilots in real life. Most of us on here are great people and I think our passion and emotions about aviation and flight simming can get the best of us at times. We get so excited and want everything right now but forget the amount of hard work and time required to create such a highly realistic simulation. I know for me, this is as close as I will ever get to being a fighter pilot and experiencing the joy and magic of flight at such a high level of realism and beauty. My bad eyesight has unfortunately prevented me from pursuing aviation as a career. DCS has given me such joy and fulfillment and has allowed me to get as close as possible to making a dream come true. Aviation is a lifelong hobby and a passion for me and I want to thank everyone involved witb DCS and I look forward to the future. I am sincerely grateful for the hard work that is done to produce the aircraft, maps, and everything else that DCS provides.

Nah, overall, ED do a good job in a niche environment. Hat's off to them. Wish them all the best.

It's quite extraordinary that I find the time to participate in this community (FC3, A-10C, NTTR as of now), yes it's a side thing, but I don't have many of them when it comes to just relaxing and free time, still ED gets a chunk of my time, which means the value is quite big. And while it may be a niche on raw popularity side, they should know that they provide a great relaxation service to people who do good and very important work, they should be proud, and that would alleviate any demoralizing feelings caused by the niche effect. But the forums have indicated they do not have tolerance for any discussion other than DCS, so i'll stop here.

I was still a kid the times around Lock On, I remember being a big buzz on the web about it even tho I didn't had net and barely had any web surf experience, it was my friends who had multiple PCs (they got parents who got PCs for free the company they worked in replaced) I remember flying one of the jets for some dogfights, but you know in those early days as a kid you just jump around stuff, and I was mostly a nintendo guy at home (metroid and other first parties), so it didn't stuck on ofcourse it was way too advanced with all those controls, I barely started learning english in school.

I remember buying "Lock On" and "Blackshark" on disk at Best Buy some years ago. Both were pretty cheap. It was my intro to DCS.

At first I thought is was way too involved, but it lead me to become a flight sim junkie.

Here's some nostalgia for you + I do own the domain, flight sim junkie.com that I will setup about DCS and Flight Simming at some point, when I get time?

Delays are frustrating at this level, but that’s the thing! This level has never been done before. We are a little lucky to have access to the Alfa and Beta stages and able to help ED / DCSW move forward, this also lets us live and experience a new flightsim legacy being made.

Great post Zimmerdylan,

I feel also adressed beeing as one of the "most of us".

I remember my first moments in the Quick Mission of Lock on , where you fight in an Mig 29 against a Mirage 2000...all with the initial old low poly 3d models and I was like " Jesus ! , this is it ! This is the ultimate Jet Flighter Flight Sim !"

And my Feeling hasnt changed since... I enjoyed travelling from LOMAC to Flamings Cliffs 1, 2, 3 ; all the way to DCSW and some plane modules...and now I am excited for the 2.5 merge...

Big thanks to ED, the Sim developed to an unbelievable extend. Sometimes Im sitting on an airfield ramp on multipayer an just enjoy all the nice planes starting up and passing by.. it is just amazing..

Keep on the great Work... it really turned out to bring us the One and Only Hardcore Flight Sim for Military Machinery.

What an awesome post by the OP of positivity and appreciation. I commend you sir for raising and reminding us all, just how very lucky we are to have ED, TFC in the background & the 3rd party developers working tirelessly to bring us the best quality and most accurate airframes that modern software and hardware can support.

That is their only driver - to give the best possible - they're not making enough to all retire to a purchased island in the Pacific ya know! ;-)

Sometimes we need reminding of where we've come from, to 'really' appreciate where we are and, where we want to go.

I'm no stranger to these forums, I've been around a bit as they say. I've supported ED since 2005, joining the 104th in 2006 and being an ED tester for the A10C in 2009. I've run a VFS (the old 74th - like devil dawgs they were), trained people in the community, created missions and training academy's that still have a presence on YouTube even now.

I've taken some time out from DCS after retiring from 26 years service in the British Army - Infantry - PWRR in 2013 and, in the interim period flown 'other' sims (and yes..........mellowed a tad) - FSX, P3D, IL46 CLOD, X-Plane, CAP, War Th....... there's quite a few out there - I've also spent hundreds of pounds on addons - Tacpack, Orbx, Airports, PMDG, Aerosof........... - you get the point.

I still keep coming back to DCS - the latest 1.5.5 and NTTR is stunning - very many congratulations ED!! - (PS get a rift!!)

Know what? None of the others stack up. Not one of them in my view (we are all entitled to one) stack up to the fidelity, effort and end product of DCS - ED and their partners. The interaction between Devs and the product for DCS World is first class and likewise with the 3rd party developers. You rarely find it elsewhere.

Yes there are bugs, yes there are issues - isn't there everywhere? - do your utmost to inform ED in a timely and accurate manner and help them ID to fix it.

We should have a week of bug submissions - a 'drive' to show overt support to ED and their products.

Now....if we could only start to be a little civil to each other on here and realise there is a human being on the receiving end of the text we write, we'd all be in a much better place.

Well done OP - have some rep.

In Life, those we Love are usually those we also push harder :-/

There are three sims I Love ex-aequo, DCS. IL-2 BoS and X-Plane... I actually am pushy against the three, many time picky with my critics, because I find the three so good, and they give me such an immersive experience that, that I want to make them PERFECT! While I usually kept installing and uninstalling each one in chain, for months / years... always trying to settle with just one, I finally settled with the three calmly and peacefully in my SDD... I use each one to it's best... DCS for detail in cockpit, IL2 for air combat in ww2 environment and X-Plane as a "World Wide" civil flightsim with lot's of potential.

Flight Simulation is the Virtual Materialization of a Dream...
