TomOnSteam Posted December 9, 2016 Posted December 9, 2016 It's always sad to hear about someone becoming ill. Hope you get well soon :) My uncle had a heart-attack a couple of years ago - he's fit and active, but it still hit him. The cardiologist told him he was likely to have more in the future because of the way his arteries looked and because of his diet. Well my uncle is still alive and well, and hasn't suffered any more heart-attacks since he bought this book http://www.dresselstyn.com/site/ I know it's not the same as a stroke, but it works the same for the most part. It's arteries in your brain instead of your heart. Just wanted to share this because it saved my uncles life and perhaps it will save someone else here too. cichlidfan Posted December 12, 2016 Author Posted December 12, 2016 Thanks again, everyone. Hope you get well as soon as possible. Its good that you post things like this, reminds everyone to savour and enjoy every moment of our lives:) I agree it never hurts to be reminded how fleeting our lives can be. The more patients I meet, the more I realize how lucky I am. I lost an uncle to a stroke in 2009, granted he was 91, but it was a healthy 91. His stroke was so severe that the doctors said that he was basically brain dead by the time he hit the floor. So I am counting my blessings every single day. Right now I am trying to find a quality walking stick with that Irish shillelagh style. If I have to use one, I want to look good. ;) ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! cichlidfan Posted December 18, 2016 Author Posted December 18, 2016 (edited) Hi again, and thanks for all the good wishes. My left hand is starting to work again. My typing sucks but spell checker handles that. My therapist is very happy, which makes me happy. When she is not happy, it is not a good thing. She is tough, like a Marine DI, which is probably a good thing, but it sucks on the bad days. EDIT: The general consensus is that I should be close to normal by next summer. cichlidfan Posted December 18, 2016 Author Posted December 18, 2016 (edited) That sounds like pretty good news. It is beyond good news. At the beginning I had limited expectations of my recovery. The docs are all happy and I am ecstatic. Thanks Sobek. EDIT: From what they tell me the damage was minimal and the brain is very resourceful in rerouting data. I just received my Oculus touch, so this should be interesting. EDIT2: I honestly did not expect to be able to fly again. It brings tears to my eyes, honestly, to be able to do something that I thought was gone forever. They did not indicate an improvement so I assume I will be no more intelligent than before, and possibly prone to even more stupid acts (Like giving away expensive computer hardware :santa:) Luckily the insurance is paying for most everything so I still have money and can spend it in silly ways on people I don't know. ;) ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero, i7-6700K, Noctua NH-D14 Cooler, Crucial 32GB DDR4 2133, Samsung 950 Pro NVMe 256GB, Samsung EVO 250GB & 500GB SSD, 2TB Caviar Black, Zotac GTX 1080 AMP! Admit it, you couldn't stand the idea of not typing another 3,500 posts in the next 4 months, right? :D (Then again, the goal of reaching 20 k posts until April would be ambitious in any case... ;))

One day at a time mate. Thanks. One day at a time is the only way to take these things, but I am damn lucky. Lucky in terms of my health and in terms of all the good people here who have sent me good wishes. I just walked one of my dogs to the vet, for dental work, and even though it was only 31 degrees it was great to be able to do it, albeit slowly. I still need to find a cane that I like. EDIT: It is only about half a mile from my house to the vets office. cichlidfan Posted December 19, 2016 Author Posted December 19, 2016 Back on your feet for 2.5:thumbup: Great to hear your docs are optimistic and pleased I suspect they are pleased because the insurance company is paying the silly amounts of money for torturing me every week. On the bright side, my therapist is actually rather hot, which motivates me to want to go to the torture chamber. The hand exercises are no big deal but she keeps making me walk around without any support and it is no fun, yet. I have already told her that I plan to chase her around the room soon. Just following your lead, though. :D (And I still have absolutely no clue how you managed to write over 3 times as many posts as I did, within a year less of membership on this forum ;)) The hand exercises are no big deal but she keeps making me walk around without any support and it is no fun, yet.
