Try this: Map Caucasus SkinCompilation v2 by Domi

To remember:

  • The link above is my personal mix of different Terrain Mods (Bartheks GTM 6.5, Starway, Mustang and my own work).
  • Where possible I have re-saved the files from DXT3 to DXT 1 No Alpha format. This reduced the size of the files per 50% (e.g. noise_mount.bmp.dds from 80MB to 40MB).
  • DO NOT REDISTRIBUTE THIS MOD

Mind if I make a comparison video using this Hybrid package?

Thanks

Personally I find Barthek's a bit too neon green for my liking. Starway's and Mustang's are both great but I prefer the larger fields in the latter.

As for the mountains, I think Bartek's are probably the best, followed by Starway's. Mustang's are great but they're covered in snow and I prefer to be able to see the rocky textures. It would be great occasionally though, like now 'cos it's Christmas and due to snow here in the UK :) Would be awesome if we could switch between them from the DCS settings.

Hey bud really cool compilation, but unfortunately I cannot join multiplayer servers with it. I'm currently running Picksking's mod and have run into no issue but when running yours I am presented with "Pure Client Required" when joining.

In Multiplayer: click on red shield on top of the window to see which files are bad for pure client and remove them from the mod...

I can't download this for some reason. It gets to about 350MB and then stalls. I've tried with Chrome and IE.

Just restart it. Took me 7-8 restarts to get it done. One time chrome had a "resume" button and i think that time was the one that did it.

Barthek is preparing an update for his 7.0 as we speak, with these hippy greens toned down a lot.

As for PicsKing's compilation v2.2, it has a no-tree-shadows-mod included, which got "broken" a couple of patches ago indeed, but all one has to do is just removing these modded files ("structures" folder) from the package and all the forests render correctly again.

I've come to the conclusion that less is more when it comes to mods in DCS World.

Until things settle down in terms of updates (which will probably be some time never), then the chances are that whatever unlicensed mod you choose, it will break due to updates.

My advice is to step away from the scenery, and await 2.5, which will render them all obsolete anyway. They are excellent mods, but no one can predict what will cause issues down the line.

Why? I haven't run the default terrain since I have started DCS world years ago. Terrain mods aren't broken by updates, most of them are MP compatible (If not, easily fixed as mentioned above) and make the old Caucasus map bearable to watch. Waiting for 2.5 is unbearable as it takes forever.

As to which mod is best, I still prefer Mustangs by far, due to the colours and that is looks good from all altutides and in all seasons. I still use my own mish-mash though.

I tried it twice in Chrome and both times there was the resume option but that didn't do anything. I can download much bigger files without any problem, so something's wrong with this if it takes 7-8 tries to get it to download.

I prefer Mustangs mod. Its slightly too dark but very natural details and 16k textures.

Fantastic job, I found the Mustang mod by googling, have you ever thought about linking to these mods in the OP? Or are the links all dead?

It is really hard to find active download links for 1.5 mods. I'm pretty new to the site and most everything posted in '15 and '16 now lead to dead end downloads :(

I found a few on YouTube that still worked.

I know people are running the caucasus map inside 2.0 and I asked about it on here the other day and the thread was locked and I was told not to put the caucasus map in 2.0 ha, so yeah, if anyone is running it and wouldn't mind sharing the secret, pm me, I will be very grateful!

Anyway thanks again for the post.

Thanks for this, it's very helpful!

Overall, I think I like the Starways texture the best, but I think I'm going to have to go with Mustang. I fly with a friend who doesn't do texture mods, and Mustang's keeps the same field geometry as vanilla, so it'll be easier to point out things.

Firstly let me say having used their mods I have to complement both Mustang and Starway for great work. At this high level I think it's a matter of personal preference which mod you decide to go with.

I've found for me using Oculus Rift, Starway's mod offers better shading affect and color vibrance, trees and grass, also the mountains are very nice. Mustang's mod on a monitor is much different in a positive way than when viewed in VR where as with Starway's I find it as good either way.
