Hi,

I still cannot imagine how I will cooperate with Jester in the backseat. Especially in a target rich environment. How will it work?

a) I need to swap to the backseat and fulfill both the RIO’s and the pilot’s work? Impossible.

b) I will have minor „cheat” controls from the front seat to chose which targets I want to lock, etc...

c) Jester will do everything and I need to give him commands, say, through the radio menu? Cumbersome.

d) Jester will be fully automated – but then how does he know if I want to select 4 targets is TWS mode, or get an STT lock on the 3rd bogey?

Is there any info on this?

Thanks!

Nope, pretty sure there is not. Not yet.

All that we know about Jester for now is that it will not be a). I assume it will be possible to do that anyway, but that it will not be required for the operation of the Jester AI.

From Leatherneck's website:

The Jester AI system is a proprietary, brand new RIO/WSO AI designed to be integrated with our multi-seat aircraft for DCS World. The importance of implementing such a system quickly became apparent as we realized the workload put on both RIO and Pilot in the F-14 Tomcat. The system will be fully voiced and feature an easy-to-use GUI to allow you to quickly send commands to your RIO.

If you prefer to handle many of the RIOs duties and tasks yourself, a simple Pilot AI can take over while you jump into the rear seat. This part of the AI will be quite simple and limited due to the complex nature of aerial meanouvering.

JESTER AI will be built under the guidance of real RIO’s and Pilots who have spent countless hours in Tomcats. Thus, we hope to attain the most accurate RIO representation available in a flight simulation to date.

Don't think the radio menu would be that cumbersome tbh, many people use it successfully to make their AI wingmen preform very well.

If it is too cumbersome for you then you could get that fancy voice attack software and do it via speech. ;)

As for me, I will be looking for someone to be my RIO or vice versa.

There are several effective voice comms programs out there where you can just tell Jester to perform whatever commands they program him in to do. No need to use the Menu keys if you find them cumbersome.

I know RAZBAM has dibs, but between the existing Viggen radar and Jester AI I wouldn't mind seeing LN get the A-6. Or the Tornado.

Strike Eagle. Tornado. Cobra. SU-24.

Would, would, would and would.

I think you will find it to be far easier than you let on in your post.

It will be based around a quick-access GUI (probably radial) that will have the most common commands quickly identifiable and selectable. E.g.:

RIO -> Target -> Single -> Flanking

RIO -> Radar -> Dogfight Close

RIO -> Scan -> Visually -> Rear

RIO -> Callouts -> Altitude & Speed

These are just rough examples, don't take them at face value.

The AI system will evolve and be expanded as time goes on; you shouldn't expect it to be perfect on release day.

There will be obvious things missing that will just become obvious once people have started using the system.

There are good examples of quick access radial menus in other games that provide a good idea of how quick and easy it can be to issue commands.

I totally agree its a must. As I Voiceattack-user I would be fine with if the Jester-commands could be assigned to the keyboard, then I could just map it to Voiceattack. It works flawlessly for me with the radiomenu now so I hope it will work with Jester also!

Hmmm that makes sense! This aircraft is really going to be something... Also, adding this level of communication with an AI in the backseat will increase immersion in single player.

i dont understand the problem. my "jester ai" is called steven and i can give him voice commands, too :-D *mulitcrew*multicrew*multicrew*multicrew*

i think LN will come up with something user friendly and easy to use, no doubt about it.

Well I know that RIOs are not pilots per say, but can Jester full fill the role of pilot if you want to take a trip in the back seat?

Will these have the option of setting a key command for each one? Such would be useful for those of us with access to Voice Attack or similar speech recognition packages.

A RIO set to call altitude and speed, or bandit position, will do it only once? Or will he keep doing until another call out command has been issued?

Me too, if you don't already have someone I will fly RIO with you :) That goes for anyone once it comes out. If I am free, I will fly as RIO for anyone who wants one, I can't guarantee results yet though. PM me guys when you feel the need... oh, ehrr, I should finish that thought before some joker pipes up... ehrr, the need to kick the tires and go fast? Is that it? wait, was it something else...? well, I paraphrase :)

That would be great. The best thing about the DCS Cat is someone can learn both the pilot and RIO roles. So if you get bored of RIO you could always switch out. :joystick:
