Good to see another F-16 thread. Its been at least 3 days since the last, or since the last old F-16 thread got bumped out of the basement. I had almost forgotten about the F-16 existence :)

:megalol: Can't rep, that was funny.

To whom it may concern,

I am an idiot, unfortunately for the world, I have a internet connection and a fondness for beer....apologies for that.

Thank you for you patience.

F-16 is a no brainer. My all time favourite jet (despite it's FBW). Sure first day buy!!!!!!!!

Lol true, I can handle the sarcasm but it just reinforces how badly this sim needs it and how badly the community want it.

So why not found a company get the "easy" to get data and apply for a 3rd party contract?

If it is such a viable project and its a no brainer the financial stakes should be very much in your favor. :smartass:

I also think I wouldn't need any other aircraft after :P

I won't! After the F/A-18C we can do everything an F-16 can do, just better. Plus SEAD and Carrier ops in the Straight of Hormuz and laying mines to block harbors! ;)

And with the JF-17 we already get basically an F-16... performance and mission wise... :tomato:

aw my other post was deleted because 1.15, something I wasn't aware off.

anyway, I also said that the investment for the F-16 would turn into profit in the blink of an eye.

That "other" hardcore sim covers it already to a degree noone ever will exceed, and its development continues even now.

Seriously? ED is creating an FA-18 with things like a functional caution and warning system...not scripted noises but a FUNCTIONAL Caution and warning system that actually reacts to system failures correctly...And you believe the "other" sim covers the F-16 to a degree ED will never match?

That's very...special.

Having the necessary systems built for the F18 will make it somewhat easier to build the F16, I'm guessing.

I think it's a good idea to hold off on the F16 and let DCS 2.5 settle down and let ED polish up 2.5, damage model, missions etc and finish off the F18

Then do the F16 latter, it will do well, many from that other sim would buy it, the problem is the full on fans coming here, they could really mess up this forum, because no matter what, the other sim will be better because, blah blah blah, feel sorry for the mods already. ;)

One thing at a time lads. If it is a question of when, not if, then let us bathe in the sun that is the upcoming F/A-18 and have a jolly good time. That will keep us entertained until it is time to release the Viper.

Knowing the F18 is close though, I am in no rush.

I'm on the same boat.

Like someone said before, the Hornet can do everything the Viper do and perform better. But still, same as the F-14, there's that nostalgia effect.

That is just inflammatory and opinionated. Both aircraft have their good and bad and both have enough Version/subversion/sub,subversion to have very different results when compared. Sadly, both have their fans and haters so that opinion will continue (with these two and many other aircraft), although without merit.

:D

Besides one is a bug/insect (or a blind ugly heavy endangered animal). Another is a majestic Bird ( or deadly killer Snake)

arguably vice versa.

From a comparable era to the F/A18C lot 20, F16C block 50 has much better P/W ratio ( acceleration ,climb rate and Top speed), and has superior enduranc) but id say most vipers do to thier Hornet era contemporaries.

Hornet is simply is better at pulling High AOA at Low speeds and thus not stalling as fast as the F16, thus only besting it in the Lowest of speeds regimens in a very long sustained Turning engagement. That and it can land on carriers. Otherwise F16 can do what the Hornet can, but has the superior P/W.

It's not really Power to weight ratio Kev2go. You are talking about jets, so it's 'thrust' and not 'power'. Power is related to horsepower, work rate, thrust is described as a pushing force, a jet engine produces a force, not power.

, we can argue about Semantics all day, but I think you know what i was trying to get at :smartass:, but fair enough, that would be the more proper terminology.

What I meant was, the F/A-18 will keep me very busy while the F-16 is... well...

It's my number 1 aircraft in my wishlist, and if I could choose between the two or any other aircraft, I'd choose the F-16.

I really hope - and I'm sure I'm not alone in this - that ED announces this bird after the release of the Hornet.

Everything Except...win the Light Weight Fighter competition...

:D

That being said, in my opinion the LWF competition is the last time we built a fighter aircraft "right". The YF-17 may have "lost" the LWF contract but in the end became the F-18. One development program yielded two outstanding aircraft.

When have you seen an F/A-18 using sea mines? I do not think I seen them ever being carried by an F/A-18, sure it can but never seen it. When is the last harbor we mine? Desert storm? 27 years ago?

Edit:

I am curious now, can you link photos or videos? I'm looking for pictures of aerial mines and so far have only seen B-52 carrying mines. I am sure that P-3 and P-8 can carry them yet I can't photos of those either.
