Some Comparison Shots of the Free Caucasus Update

I went a ahead and did some comparison shots from the images Matt released yesterday, and a couple he didnt. The last one is simply uncomparable because I cant sit in a F/A-18C cockpit in 1.5.7.

 

These comparison shots for me really sink home the amount of effort going into a free map for DCS, that ED is committed to providing a awesome looking starting point for new players, and giving us older players a completely new experience from what we have all lived in for years now.

 

I hope it also shows why keeping DCS profitable though new modules, DLC and 3rd Parties is so important. So that they can afford the ability to create things like this for free and keep them free.

Some of the trees at Kobuleti and Kutaisi are standing very close to the runways. I don't know what these places look like in reality, but I somehow doubt that authorities would accept trees to stand that dangerously close to the runways.

ED simply HAS to provide Caucasus for free. If they don't, they won't be able to sell modules to new players. It's really that simple.

Honestly they dont have to give DCS World away for free. Many companies charge for a new game every year, or put a monthly fee on it. And still sell DLCs etc. If you cant appreciate the stuff you do get for free, then not much I can say, but I do.

 

My comments are to the trolling on other sites that make ED out to be stealing our money and are on the edge of charging for fuel and missiles... some people can only see the cup half empty, I am showing you the other side.

 

PS, spoiler alert. Santa isnt real, so ED has given you more for free than any jolly old elf from the North Pole.

Sorry to ask this here but it's not crystal clear in my mind yet: if I understand well, New Caucasus will be available in DCS 2.5, that is when 1.5 and 2.0 merge?

Sure, that's why when Nevada came out I bought it to support the "war effort" even if I don't really use it.

Sure, that's why when Nevada came out I bought it to support the "war effort" even if I don't really use it.

 

At some point 2.5 will come out and all version will merge. And we will be back to a Release Version and a Open Beta/Early Access version like previous.

 

How that will roll out I am not sure, but we are getting close.

So much looking forward to this. It's more than a year since I told myself that I will wait for the 2.5 merge to get back to DCS... well it did not last long for me, I've played since then, but the moment 2.5 will happen will be one of the best. No longer will I have to switch clients to play different maps which is the biggest gripe for me at the moment.

 

The new Caucasus looks great.

Lots of places in Canada at least have similar issues with trees up close to the runway. Not so much in bigger airstrips but lots of smaller volume airstrips like that out there. Lack of landscaping doesn't leave a whole lot of safety margin but I don't think I've ever landed or taken off with a wing hanging over one side of the runway so not really an issue unless you get into some trouble - or need the extra room to turn around...
