Some Comparison Shots of the Free Caucasus Update

I did try to find the location, I found one possible, but not sure yet, need to test and see what happens. Anyway when new Caucasus comes stuff like that will be invalid unless tested and confirmed again, but since the whole terrain is getting a redo, such issue on flat surfaces might be gone.

As far as I know, you're limited to three possible locations. There is 1) the very obvious "X" near Kobuleti, 2) Kutaisi West, now a private airport just outside of SW Kutaisi and 3) the mysterious airport in the area where the current Parliament building is located in Kutaisi.

You gotta love the way they keep emphasizing the 'FREE' part.

 

I have a helicopter that's not much use in Las Vegas, this will drive sales for modules as well as allowing existing customers to use modules that they've already purchased that really only have a use in the Caucasus, referred to as an "update" yet also said to be free.

Not quite, they are just doing some tweaks on some different tech that has been added to the terrain, but its getting close...

I also noticed that New Caucasus seems to have more "autogen" (trees).

 

Despite more details and apparently higher texture resolution, could you observe a performance rise or is it the same as the current DCS 1.5?

There is still a lot of tweaking going on, so its not finalized enough to say for sure, but I am seeing similar performance to 2.1, which I find is generally better than 1.5 for me.

I read somewere that ed is trying that, but was wondering (and hoping) if it is going to happen with 2.5.

I'm guessing if your struggling now for performance in either 2 or 1.5 I doubt any miracles will happen with the merge that will suddenly give you smooth frame rates.

Only so much optimizing can be done, it takes hardware improvements eventually.

It would be nice to see some higher altitude screenshots of the terrain to see how well the textures blend at distance and if there is any noticeable repetitive tiling, also in the various seasons.
