I actually deleted that post but some must have gotten through.

 

I am in error, Trigger 1 and trigger 2 are working as designed.

The error is mine by selecting the wrong command in DCS M2k.

 

It works just fine in VKB_JoyTester and in the SIM.

Yes, the name should be highlighted in VKBdevCfg; the assumption is that if you have multiple devices, you select the one you want from the list of devices, highlighting it, and then VKBdevCfg activates settings for the selected devices. You still need to highlight a device, even if there's only one. (also, check my email reply about calibrating, etc)

 

I feel dumb, but that was it.

 

New question. Is there literature on what the different button types are and what they do/mean in the VKBDevCFG? I know what 'button' and 'tempo' do, but all the others, I have no idea.

Got my GF Pro and MCG Pro today. Very impressive stick. So smooth.... the gimbal is just porn.

The precision is amazing also. Coming from a CH fighterstick, which I loved, it was a HUGE shock to see just how much more accurate this stick is. No comparison. I have to learn to fly again, because of the much larger stick movement range. Rolling, I put in accidental pitch. And vice versa. Will get used to that soon enough though.

 

The default springs are much too weak for my taste, I'll change them out later. Might even try different cams, to get a better sense of centre perhaps.

 

I'll be back later with a bunch of questions! But for now, the reality has matched the hype. Nice work VKB :)

Europeans who consider buying VKB products might find this interesting:

 

I pulled the trigger and ordered a Gunfighter Pro + MCG Pro from the Russian VKB site last week, with some help from Google translate. The day after I was contacted by email from VKB with payment details. That same evening i made the money transfer with Western Union, which was the only way to pay.

 

The stick was 459 USD, shipping by DHL Express to Norway was 38 USD. Western Union / Visa charge was about 40 USD.

 

They collected the payment the following day, and after the weekend the package left Hong Kong. Two days later it was delivered at my doorstep.

 

So I got the package in less than a week from ordering it. I'm amazed how fast this was. Usually it takes longer when I buy from Nowegian webshops!

 

So if you're concerned if buying from China is unsafe, customs a hazzle or if delivery is slow, you have absolutely no reason to be worried. I couldn't be happier with the service VKB provided me.

 

And now it's down to trying out this beauty!

That sounds very positive. Why did you not use their english Aliexpress store page directly from china? I get quoted 465$ with dhl to Swe, should be similar shipping time and sent from same location as you got it from?

I bought the Gunfighter with MCG Pro at VKB China store via Aliexpress. Took 6 days after ordering to get delivered to me in Germany. Also chose DHL Express, so no need to drive to the customs office or anything. Just had to pay VAT to the delivery guy.

 

Will do the same when the TECS arrives in the future.

 

Oh and the stick is fantastic, thanks alot VKB.

I didn't know about the Aliexpress store then. If they're in China too, and ship with DHL Express, you'll probably get the package within a few days. Unless some EU regulations kick in. As you know, Norway is not an EU member.

 

I guess you could easily just order by email to VKB also if you wish to.

Also considering doing the same. Been waiting for a public announcement from vkb regarding European release, nothing confirmed so far . So perhaps this will be a sulotion.

When you can get it from China within a week, there's really no need to wait for the eurpoean store to eventually stock up.

AliExpress charges 76 USD to ship the GF Pro + MCG Pro to Norway with DHL Express, which is almost 40 USD more than you paid. Not sure if there's a visa charge though. 40 USD for money transfer..ouch. Atleast you (probably) don't have to pay Norwegian VAT on that.

It's complicated.

 

First, you need to update the firmware of the Black Box. To do this need to download ZBootloader (which uses the .vkb firmware files rather than the .cfg files which are used by the VKB Configurator program as profiles). But you cannot just run ZBootloader. More details here:

Ok, so I figured that there is a bigger problem. The stick LED on a black box is flashing RED. So I tried removing it and put my KG12 grip on the LED turns GREEN, swapped to MCG and RED flashing again. Tried turning the grip. Nothing helps. Now that is freaking great! Been waiting for so long and was so excited the grip is finally here....a faulty bloody grip:mad:

That's not it.

 

It's not the grip.

 

It's the Black Box firmware not recognizing the grip, which requires (a) updating the firmware and (b) "defaulting" the Black Box to reset its settings to fix. Both need to be done. Go through the steps I listed above and you will have a working grip.

 

Exact same thing happened to me --- down to KG12 working perfectly and MCG Pro not. Just a few pages back on this same thread -- I even have images of the program screens. I fixed it using the steps I describe in the previous post.

Apparently I could not flash the firmware on my PC for some reason with either grip ZBootloader would say device is not ready.

Tried on my laptop and was able to flash the firmware. I did go through all the steps as Bearfoot described but still can't make MCG Pro to work. Solid Green Stick LED on KG12, blinking red Stick LED on MCG Pro resitting the stick multiple times disconnecting reconnecting USB nothing helps.

  • Removing one grip from the Black Box and sticking another one into it does not mean the Black Box will magically understand the grip has been replaced.
  • Your Black Box is set to work with KG12. When you replace it with MCG, the BB takes it as a malfunctioning KG12, hence red light.
  • To enable the BB to recognize MCG there is a dedicated firmware which you either have not installed, or have installed but have not defaulted the system after FW update. https://forums.eagle.ru/showpost.php?p=3349350&postcount=110
  • Bootloader says device is not ready when either Wizzo or VKBDev are not shut down or when some 3rd party soft like Logitech or Razor or whatever other had grabbed the joystick and established control over it.
  • Make sure all soft of the above kind is temporarily disabled for the time you update the FW.

There are (almost) no dumb ones here; just the ones who are more, and the ones who are less experienced.

The grips are indeed quite heavily loaded with functions, and the configuring software utilities allow you to set up the grips in literally a million ways.

However this multitude is also a trap, as it is hardly possible to realize all the potential within a few days after first taking the grip out of the box.

My personal advice as a [former] virtual pilot, not as a VKB speaker, will be: do it slowly. Get yourself comfy and confident flying with a more or less default setup, and discover the advanced configuring options one by one.

It is like Photoshop, or Cinema4D, or AutoCAD - you can't learn the program a to z in 2 hours by reading a manual.

It will come in some time. Relax and enjoy.

OMG! That's it.:doh: Lost half a day and then had a thought that would probably be something that could make it work and BOOM! Yes! Then I saw your post:) Where have you been a few hours ago AeroGator?

DEFAULT is the last step! That's critical, and you are right - the only thing that wasn't letting it work. I defaulted it but before and not after the firmware update.

And sorry for having the angry mode on.:) I just had an issue with TNT yesterday stating that it was delivered but I did not receive it. So I called just to find out that my package was handed out for rural delivery (they thought I live in the rural area which I'm not) so dropped off my grip today morning. And then this issue here :doh:

So here it is

1. Connect the MCG grip.

2. Open DevCfg -C

3. Click to start Bootloader that should close DevCFG and automatically start ZBootloader-C if you have it in the same folder.

4. Update the firmware

5. DEFAULT the system

DONE! The red blinking Stick LED should turn solid green.

 

P.S still looking at what is preventing a firmware update in Zbootloader on my PC.
