I have a decent PC and can run DCS without VR maxed out on my graphics at a resolution of 2560x1080 and I get an average of 65-100+ Frames. But in VR regardless of my settings, the frames hang around 15-20. At maxed out settings the frames in VR were 10-15 and at the lowest settings they were 15-30, and 30 is when I was looking up.... I am posting my PC specs below. Please if anyone can help me understand what the issue is or how to fix it that would be great. Or if anyone from ED sees's this please fix it?! Also im using Oculus CV2. DCS Version 2.5 Open Beta.

Same for me.

Decent Hardware (see sig), low fps (around 25, sometimes lower) on cacasus map in VR.

When VR is disabled i get 70-80fps.

FPS checked on the same map, mission, aircraft and location.

Deleting the options.lua and the shadercaches didn't improved performance for me.

shiver your specs are getting on the low side...

Marsy your specs are similar to mine and i can run at 45 or above with the right settings

you guys need to list or post your in game settings.

i suggest something along the lines of :

medium textures for aircraft and ground

trees @ 80%

clutter @ 200 or even less

distance med/high

mSAA off

depth of field off

deferred shading on

Heat blur off.

Water medium

civ traffic off (fwiw)

AA/AF off

shadows to flat

Supersample @ 1.6 - 1.8 in steam or PD to a similar value in game but not both.

Sorry dude, but i wouldn't consider a 1060 as decent when it comes to VR. A lot of people are using a 1080 or 1080ti and still struggling to find perfect settings.

That's because those games have significantly less draw distance and draw objects and physics to calculate.

Dont Compare DCS Performance to Other Games, they arent the same.

Alpha, Beta, Release has nothing to do with it.

Same problem here in VR (Oculus Rift), extreme performance drop vs previous versions. Use to run 100fps+, liquid smooth and no issues. Now I'm lucky to get 10 fps, feels like an extreme memory leak or something or something else going on.

I even turned all the details down, disabled deferred shading, no AA, and my specs are a Ryzen 7 1800x OC'd to 4GHz, 16GB DDR4-3200, and two 970 GTX in SLI's (tried single card mode vs SLI, didn't make a difference in 2.5).

Currently unplayable in VR mode, haven't tried non-VR mode yet.

I run a 980ti and have few problems. Sure ASW kicks in now and again, and it gets stuttery turning onto the end of the runway, otherwise usually butter smooth.

Be interesting how much other stuff peeps have on their gaming PC. I have very little in the way of programs on mine other than the OS, oculus and a few games launched from within oculus. Oh and DCS.

All the MS office ect stuff is on another, older PC.

Wonder if people with poor performance are having some type of conflict issue if they use their gaming PC as a one stop shop?

For me personally, 2.5 runs at a stable 45 fps but I had to lower the pixel density to 1.5 .

I am pretty confident that the implementation of Vulkan will give a major performance boost. Until then, we'll have to make due with what we have.

I run mine similar to you but I run trees, clutter, and preload at 75%. I also leave chimney smoke at 1. I like have some aa (x2) to get rid of the shimmering. And I can run PD at 1.4 with the Odyssey. Runs at 45fps from takeoff to landing. Frickin beautiful too.

45fps no good in VR, not in dog fight anyway, planes shake like gelo , etc

Its fine you just need to switch off ASW so it doesn't try to interpolate the missing frames. Then 45 is A-OK.

Does that not create more judder when moving your head though?

Im having the same issue. Im stuck at 25frames and NOTHING will change it. Iv tried tweaking ALL the settings and the frame rate is constant- the only difference is with Higher settings i get more stutter.

I am also lost, although it seems for a different reason.

Able to maintain solid 45 fps here, sometimes it even dances to 46/48 - but after I am shot down in multiplayer, there are these stutters/shudders that are very difficult to manage.

Only way to clear the problem is to close the game and restart it.

So weird.

No. Not if it stays at 45fps. If it is capped at 45 fps it means there is some leftover time between frames

pagadi, dude, no.

Keep in mind that 2.5 still has a memory leak, hence the need to restart often. Also, switch off MSAA in VR. It runs a LOT better without it. I have a 1070 and use PD 1.2 and MSAA off. It works reasonably well. If you have a card with less memory you may need to stay at PD 1.0

Agreed, 1080ti and 32gb of ram and there are occasional hiccups with almost everything high except shadows and civ traffic. Flying low seems to give me 45-53 fps. Although at 45 it is pretty smooth even with targets around. Some of the settings have a huge fps hit with very little visual improvement, at least in VR.

Happy that many of the bumps have been smoothed with DCS 2.5, sad that the new bump is 16 gigs of ram not being enough. Ordered another 16 gigs, hoping that after it shows up - they end up finding a way to make 2.5 run close to the same efficiency level of the prior version, so the extra 16 gigs will be back to overkill... :/

I am saving a lot of money for a new brute system, planning january 2019 with a new volta GTX 2080 or 2080TI. I am pretty ready with low FPS in DCS. Indeed Vulcan can be a money saver to prefent me for building the new system. But that must set on the prioritylist from ED. Don't know how much work there must be done to get Vulcan on DCS?

There hasn't been any news on new cards yet but from what I've read I think they are changing the names and branding so it most likely won't be called 2080 or Ti anymore. Nvidia also has very little competition right now and I wouldn't be surprised to see their prices creep up to where a mid-range card becomes $6-700 and their Ti model becomes more. They can only increase prices so much but from speculation, expect the next "Ti" model if its called that to be more than $750 I paid for my 1080Ti. Although I too am hoping by 2019 that they have the next advanced model out.

I always stick with the Ti models for the best value. They have a tendency to release a mid-range card and say it's the best so far and then they release the real one 6-7 months later, just give us another $6-700. Same thing happened when I got my 1070 and then the 1080 came out and I was thinking about it, but next thing you know the 1080Ti came.
