Eldur Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 Just wondering, it started off with ~8.3G'ish for the patch, then I went in and started the installation of the new map. It started a download of 13407,2MB Once that was finished and installed, it just started another one which is 10767,4MB. Q: Is it that big (probably yes) and why is it split up in two (or even more) downloads when it's being torrented anyway?
QuiGon Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 Did you launch the game between the 13407MB and 10767MB updates? If not, then the first one was the download and the second one was extracting the files. Intel i7-12700K @ 8x5GHz+4x3.8GHz + 32 GB DDR5 RAM + Nvidia Geforce RTX 2080 (8 GB VRAM) + M.2 SSD + Windows 10 64Bit DCS Panavia Tornado (IDS) really needs to be a thing!
Eldur Posted May 23, 2018 Author Posted May 23, 2018 Nope, both were downloads. But after the second one it finished. ~23GB more than before. But now my SSD is down to <1GB of free space, maybe it just had some issues there and started over. General 2 cent for ED: Tell us the update size in the patch notes, please
dburne Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 There were two updates. First one about 8GB IIRC, which basically just overwrote existing files I think as I did not really lose any SSD space after the first update. Second one was for the actual Persian Gulf Map, download size was around 15gb I believe. 24 gb extracted. Mars Exulte Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 Modules typically install separately, so what you saw was probably the patch itself, then the map, possibly with a separate decompress between the two. I recently reinstalled DCS from scratch and noted that although the registry and my activations carried over, the modules downloaded separately from the rest of the game. They probably don't mention file size because it can vary so much depending on the content and what modules you own. It only downloads stuff applicable to what you own. My downloads are always gigantic, because I own everything, my dad owns nothing, so his updates are tiny. New content will always be fairly large. New maps will always be huge. A 'busy patch' with lots of updates to many modules will be big. The above does not apply if you do not own any affected modules. Shadow KT Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 (edited) and it keeps going  EDIT: Over 8300MBs out of 6300 now :D. No idea what I am downloading, but it is hella slow Edited May 23, 2018 by Shadow KT 'Shadow' Everybody gotta be offended and take it personally now-a-days
Headwarp Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 <1gb sounds like you need a new drive my friend. Doesn't have to be the fastest brand or model. I'd dedicate no smaller than a 240-250GB drive to DCS World currently. Shopping around i saw a 250GB WD Blue 2.5" SSD on sale for $70.. hehe I think I paid twice that for the Kingston 240GB serving as my boot drive years back. I dislike giving advice like "throw money at it" but I try to keep my "combat simming" SSD at no more than half capacity. Spoiler Win 11 Pro, z790 i9 13900k, RTX 4090 , 64GB DDR 6400GB, OS and DCS are on separate pci-e 4.0 drives Sim hardware - VKB MCG Ultimate with 200mm extension, Virpil T-50CM3 Dual throttles. joebloggs Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 I'd love to know how big it is but I can't even find the Persian Gulf Map I purchased? Where are you supposed to download it from before I contact my Credit Card company about it? Thankyou!

Shadow KT Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 Do you have enough free disk space for the download+unpacking? Yeah I do, it went all the way to 12Gbs and it was done. Then I opened the game happy that I already have the map on, and surprise ... Download another 13Gbs after DL 7GB one and another 12 a second time 'Shadow' Everybody gotta be offended and take it personally now-a-days
joebloggs Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 Click the module manager and you'll have the option to install the map. I did and it's not there..
Shadow KT Posted May 23, 2018 Posted May 23, 2018 (edited) Like I've downloaded an 7 Gb update first Than a 12 Gb one. Game patched. I open it up and it says Persian Gulf ready to download.... okay more downloading. It downloads another 13 Gbs and now it is downloading 10 more Gbs.... what the F? What at is going on FFS I don't have the space on my SSD for a 23 Gb update FFS. EDIT: Was able to finally finish downloading all the 99 chapters.... To be honest.... HOLY CHEESE.... so much detail. Even with my shitty settings you can spend hours flying around the cities, looking at all the details..... there are buildings in Dubai, which have been opened this year and they are in the SIM and that is not even the whole map Edited May 23, 2018 by Shadow KT 'Shadow' Everybody gotta be offended and take it personally now-a-days

F900EX Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 The area is so SMALL it is USELESS! What's useless? your post or something else?
Fri13 Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 The updater first downloads, that you can see then representing your network I/O capability. The second one is when the updater is unpacking the downloaded files and that can be around 1MB/s or less and you can see it to go over the "X to download" capacity. i7-8700k, 32GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 2x 2080S SLI 8GB, Oculus Rift S. i7-8700k, 16GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 1080Ti 11GB, 27" 4K, 65" HDR 4K.
Fri13 Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 What's useless? your post or something else? I think he is meaning to say that the new map is small that it is useless to fly. What I actually find little odd as that is what experience I got from the pre-order period Wags presentation videos and was reason why I didn't pre-order it as it looks to be a small map. i7-8700k, 32GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 2x 2080S SLI 8GB, Oculus Rift S. i7-8700k, 16GB 2666Mhz DDR4, 1080Ti 11GB, 27" 4K, 65" HDR 4K.
feefifofum Posted May 24, 2018 Posted May 24, 2018 (edited) It is 140 nautical miles from Al Dhafra AFB to the Iranian coast. You can fly another 100 or so nautical miles inland from the coast in high detail terrain mesh with settlements and roads. There are also a couple hundred nautical miles of ocean to the East of the strait. The entire Persian Gulf is in the map. Iraq/Kuwait are not high detail areas but a chunk of the landmass is there and a patient person could easily build some infrastructure and use them as a target area The detail in the UAE and Oman is exquisite...I dunno, I can't say enough good things about this map, personally. This may finally dethrone the Caucasus region as the definitive combat theatre in DCS in my opinion. EDIT: Here's a screen grab with a measurement of distance included. The map extends farther than I could fit in one screen but this should communicate the size. :) Edited May 25, 2018 by feefifofum THE GEORGIAN WAR - OFFICIAL F-15C DLC
