Sorry if this has been asked before, but how are keyboard commands input when using VR?

Obviously, most are on HOTAS, but not everything is.

Also Voiceattack (like for external views, VR Re-center) and the excellent Vaicom for even more ATC/Wingman commands. A button box will add to your HOTAS capabilities and different switches can be learned by touch

Learn to touch type. ;) Seriously, that has been a huge advantage for me when using the Rift or playing in a dark room.

Touch typing as said. Only keys I ever hit are F1, F2, F10 and G though. Everything else is on the X-55 or clicked with mouse.

Brail keyboard?

What would be nice is if you could put a bar code or glyph or sensor on the keyboard so that you can see it in vr space

I use mainly voice attack too, and a G13

I got one too, I wonder what commands you have binded. CDU? UFC? I may need some ideas

I only need to hit ESC, f1, f2. I mapped everything else to horas, and a small button box I made. For all the rest, my mic switch on my throttle has become mouse left& right click + mouse wheel upb&down, so I can activate everything in the cockpit by looking at iy.

I have F1, F2, F5 and F10 mapped to pinky lever + DMS on my HOTAS Warthog, so no need for keyboard on those.

I'm more into warbirds and helos than modern planes, so I binded mostly UI commands on my G13 (F keys, pause, escape...etc) , but when I need to type numbers, such as switching between pilot, copilot...etc, or radio command choice, I have the numbers mapped just under my thumb on my G600 mouse

I have my keyboard low on my right. so I can see it through the gap in the nose without moving my head to much.

makes typing into multiplayer chat a lot easier.

If you want immersion, forget the keyboard and voice attack and start using Touch Controllers.

You start to operate the aircraft with your hands and you know what you can do in combat and what you can't do in combat as how often you need to move your hand away from either controller to do some things.

That way you learn as well why the cockpits were designed as they were as your left hand can't reach on right and your right can't reach on left.

It is like TrackIR vs VR where with TrackIR you can easily look your 6'clock but with VR you can't without tilting head over one shoulder and moving upper body (why it is good to have a flight seat instead normal office seat).

The keyboard is required only for one thing in VR, that is a Space bar for tutorials as you need to press it to continue. So hope that there would be binding option for that as it is immersion breaker. Voice Attack should be used only for the radio commands for wingman etc. So it creates more immersive action when you press and hold mic to command wingman ie. join on you or spread out etc.

Yeah I really need to start using my Touch controllers more for DCS and see how I get along with them.

I wish I could figure out a way to keep my controllers at hand while flying. A friend of mine is testing placing magnets to the hotas case.

Keep on lap... They stay there well enough when pointed down. Easier to grab than mouse as well.

Actually good idea if it is stretching.

They have those retractable key rings too. Might be worth a look.

My annoyance with them is the floating hands when I'm not using them.
