Oh by the way, don't know if it is true, but while on a Syria mission last night, someone mentioned that the MiG-21 is bugged for Syria and crashes.... which might explain why no one was flying MiG-21s.

It was listed as a known bug in the latest open beta update patch notes
https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/news/changelog/openbeta/2.7.0.5118/

Modules:

F-14, F-15C, F-16C, F/A-18C, M-2000C, A-10C, A-10C II, AV-8B N/A, MiG-29, Su-33, MiG-21 Bis, F-5E, P-51D, Ka-50, Mi-8, Sa 342, UH-1H, Combined Arms

Maps and others:

Persian Gulf, Syria, Normandy, WWII Assets, NS 430 + Mi-8 NS 430

Server News:

Operation Five Points Unleashed is back online:

- Partially clouded, snow and a bit foggy.

- All aircraft and weapons are limited (which you already know). Mi-8's and UH-1's are the only exception due to the long distances to cover so no severe limitations on those two.

- That means there are ca. 50 x Mi-8's and 50 x UH-1's at missions start which is never the case in any other mission.

- Ka-50's and SA342Mistrals (yes, Mistrals) are limited in numbers.

- The mission runs for 8 hours instead of 10.

- The warehouses in this mission are as of now fixed. That means R-60's and countermeasures for the MiG-21 are available.

- Mission might go online tonight if I don't work extra hours. Still at work.

EDIT:

The mission ran yesterday evening and was even won by one of the two coalitions. No bugs, no triggers malfunctioning or the like. Thanks for your inputs.

Server News:

Operation Once Upon a Time in Abu Dhabi is back online:

- Instead of a maximum of 3 x SAM sites per side it's now 2 (KUB and Hawk systems). All other SAM types are excluded.

- Su-25's and A-10's remain excluded.

- No tanks. APC's and AAA's only.

- The dusty weather is a bit thicker this time. Let me know if it's too much and if you have any visibility issues. Clouds were removed.

- The warehouses in this mission were fixed and with that R-60's and countermeasures are available for the MiG-21.

- The mission goes online tonight around 1900 zulu after the mission Battle Over Sukhumi Unleashed (supposing no coalition wins it).

- The air temperature has been increased so now it's 36 °C (96,8 °F). Watch your weight, helicopter pilots.

So i'm wondering how we can get more people playing in the evenings in the Americas. I'm saying this for selfish reasons because I work when the server is busy, and can't get on till 20:00MST which is 02:00GMT.

Now the easist solution is have more US cold war jets, so hopefully when the A7 and F8 come out there will be a bit of an influx. The F-4 would probably get a ton of people if it ever gets developed.

I was wondering if anyone eles had any Ideas on how we can get the server a bit more full during those times?

The server still has the same numbers (more or less) even after adding the MiG-29A and the F-14A to it. So it's not about having any other Blue modules. Still, they will be added nonetheless.

You can't overcome the time factor of us living across the earth. I had some players from Australia struggling with the same issue. It's really tough if you're not in Europe and many part of both Asia and Africa. Sometimes Red outnumbers Blue during the evening (Europe time) and when we go to bed Blue outnumbers Red. Looks like most Europeans prefer to fly Red mostly while Americans obviously Blue. That's the way it is, I guess.

Well I mean the F-14 is only on some of the time so if the F-14 is availible but the server is empty it's likely people won't fly it. Now I for one don't want to change the number of missions the F-14 is in. I think it's perfectly fine how it is at the moment. However it looks like that in Europe people are playing in the evenings there, but in the Americas they are not playing in the evenings. Obviousky this I feel is because the majority of the players on the server are European. I'm just wondering if we want to promote the server a bit. I'm thinking about doing some stuff on some on the Facebook groups to get some people online during those times.

Battle over Sukhumi - MiG-29s in Maykop can equip R27s. Mission stated that only R60s are available there.

It is the only base where R60Ms are available, because of Sochi only making it so you can load R27s. That is what the briefing means when it says that.

@AlpenwolfWe only get a total of 140 missiles for Once Upon a Time in Abu Dhabi 😞

EDIT: Okay so if you make a preset, as long as they are there in the warehouse, you can mount them, so R-60 is mountable by PRESET only. (Same with fuel tank, and flare pod)

If only you could disable some features on F18 or F16 (HMD i am looking at you)... or even better, if we could get A versions of them...

We would need actual A variants for that. The C models, especially ours which are mid-2000s upgrades, are fundamentally different aircraft to the As. You can't just disable a few systems and call it close enough, even if that was an option we had. The entire software package would need to be downgraded, MFDs changed out for older models (or in the 16's case, for gauges and a crotch CRT for the radar), and the F-18's engines would need to be downrated as we have the variant with 414s rather than the original 404s. This is the exact same problem with things like the Apache and Kiowa - a fully overhauled, digital system cannot stand in for the original just because they share a basic airframe. It's an even worse discrepancy than calling our F-5 a 60s/70s aircraft (where it would have either no RWR or maybe something like an ALR-45, and no RWR nor radar in F-5A scenarios), our MiG-21 a 60s aircraft (where it could have anything ranging from a gun-ranging radar to a slightly older version of what it has now depending on variant, as well as less thrust but also less weight, and only 2 pylons with R-3S missiles for older generations and no gun for some types), etc. Ultimately there isn't a huge jump in capabilities between an F-5A and our F-5E, it just gains a tiny amount of situational awareness and some close combat modes. Likewise, our MiG gains a bit of power and fuel load and a sorta decent radar at the expense of weight. Including an F-16C or F/A-18C in place of A models, though, is a massive jump in capabilities in every direction, and unless someone actually gives us legitimate A models, I'm not a fan. The "oh well this 2005 era upgrade can stand in for the early 1980s original" mindset is way too prevalent in DCS and way too many people unironically believe they're basically the same aircraft when they're really not.

nice flying tonight. I do not like the desert sand/fog much.. just makes coordination difficult, especially in a map where there is no remarkable georgraphic references.

Honestly, more clouds, less fog is better 🙂

Thank again for this great server

Feel free to do that.

Tip:

Maybe you could describe the server a bit or make sure people understand what is enabled and what is not. And mostly, how comms (SRS) are vital for each and every mission, etc.

I think you've misinterpreted the following sentence: "Note that R-60M missiles are only available at Maykop airbase".

MiG-29A's don't carry R-60's so I had to enable the R-60M's for them but only at Maykop airbase so they can carry IR missiles. The reason behind that is the overall limitation for the MiG-21 to R-60's only (IR limitation) in all missions. So if MiG-29A's want to have IR missiles they find them at Maykop airbase only. If the sentence had been like: "Note that R-60M missiles are the only available missiles at Maykop airbase" then it would mean what you understood. So adding "the" and "missiles" to the sentence as shown in the example would make the difference.

Hope that make things clear now 😉

There are 352 x R-60 missiles. Not sure where you got the 140 from.

It can't always be good weather with easy conditions. I'll reduce the dust thickness a bit though.

maybe adding more same missions with different weather/ time of day?

Nah, that just doubles the amount of mission files and things get a bit confusing. The weather changes from time to time anyway. That's it.

again, im not wanting good conditions. Put me some thunderstorms and rain all you wan 🙂

it is just my opinion that this orange fog brings nothing to the game in terms of tactics.

but again, best server out there. thanks !

Server News:

Operation Once upon a Time in Abu Dhabi:

- The thickness of the dust clouds was reduced a bit.

Note:

To those who say they can't navigate properly without having any landmarks to help them. Well, you can always get some altitude to help your navigation systems pick up NDB signals, etc. and from a high altitude landmarks become easier to spot. So it's an inconvenient issue to deal with but why don't you fly higher than the usual? Every time I fly this mission I'm flying at 5K at least in any of my MiG's. Only exception is the L-39. By the time I get to the TA I start descending and at some point hug the ground.

The other reason behind the dust clouds is to provide cover for helicopter pilots flying over barren terrains as it is.

EWR didn't seem to answer on Phone Booth yesterday. I joined late and I think the ones available at mission start were destroyed prior to my joining, I slingloaded a new one and it was mute (blue side)
Red side said theirs were working but had weapon issues (classic warehouse bug I assume)

Take care and thanks again Alpen 👍
