Alas it is not invalid grounds - we lack the product and the money is gone, and this is not the first time Heatblur pulled the same stunt: During summer sale 6 months ago, they were selling completely broken Viggen which was crashing whole DCS world every flight!

So, Im asking again - what is the Heatblur`s explanation for this delay? "Oppps, sorry?"

For goodness' sake.

I have to be pretty blunt and honest here. We have promised this winter. Please set your expectations accordingly. We're all grown-ups here and If you're uncomfortable with spending the $70 on pre-ordering without knowing exactly when we launch, then please don't. We'd rather you be happy and jump in when you feel that it's the right time. There will be ample warning for you to pre-order before the discount is removed. The 21st is community speculation run wild and is not, in any way, an official stance of ours.

It's somewhat disheartening to be mocked for some sort of sudden and grave PR disaster. If we've lied or cheated you in any way, please - feel free to ream us to hell and back.

Until then, trust in that we are focusing on building the perfect F-14 simulation that is excellent on day 1, in whichever winter month that day may be. As promised.

I'm going to quote myself again, ad nauseum for everyone here, I'm sure:

And no i dont care about answers from white knights and fan boys defending Heatblur. I would like official statement since my money is with them, not with you Horns.

You can most surely PM Nicholas if you want a refund for your preorder. He’s always been super lenient and helpful for those things.

Since you seem entitled just because you preordered something, I really suggest you ask for a refund, so you don’t continue to act like an entitled kid.

This is absolutely hilarious. It‘s not anyone’s fault but your own for not having ANY impulse control and straight up preordering it anyway.

Now, if your argument was that you wanted to save a few bucks, you should know that they would have notified you about the pending release anyways, before the preorder time window was over.

Exactly this. Personally I am very much against pre-orders being opened to the consumer base without a set release date for early access at least. When this happened with the Hornet earlier this year, I predicted it would set a precedent and indeed it has with the same thing now happening with the Tomcat. With all of that said ED and Heatblur are privately owned companies, and they can conduct their business practices in any way they like, and in this we have absolutely no say, regardless of our preferences.

I was thinking about using the winter sale on Steam to pre-purchase the F14, but was a bit surprised to see "expected release date: winter 2019".

I know there isn't a confirmed release date yet, but am I safe to assume that we will be able to enjoy this module a little bit earlier than that? (Or is winter 2019 a prognosed date for it to get out of alpha state maybe?)

System specs:

I could see how that could be misleading. Many people would think that winter 2019 means end of the year 2019 but in reality it means as early as December 21st 2018 or as late as March 20th 2019. So a good three month window and not a 12 month window.

In this case "Winter 2019" refers to the months of January, February, and March of 2019. Meaning the next 3 months. Not a year from now.

Of course... ok I feel pretty stupid now

Anyways.. I was just trying to purchase the F14 on Steam, but it won't add to my shopping cart. Anyone else having this problem? (Or could anyone try adding it to their shopping cart and tell me if it works?)

Astronomical winter is the one relevant for the calendar. Meteorological refers to coldest months and is not precise enough to put a date to it... and just to make it interesting, meteorological ad astronomical winter on the southern hemisphere is somewhere around June to August.

P.S.: Why did you pre-order again? To have a chance to spread negative crap in a forum?!

I love the videos and updates from Nick and the team! Man, did you see those explosions on the LANTIRN?!

Unreal! Hope this transfers to other modules, later.

I am happy they take the time to do it right. I have no problem with early access and the slow development like in the Hornet for example, but if they can give us a nearly feature complete and 80-90% working Tomcat, than it's worth waiting a couple weeks.

Just my two cents.

Its worth waiting another year IMO, not a fan of early access myself. No offense to people that are.

I'm excited to see a mostly finished product come out of the oven, its Been a long time.

For the past couple of months, I've had a lot on my plate; oddly enough, much of it wasn't even work related, but hobby related, including DCS. The past week was especially crazy and exhausting with lots of dates and stuff to attend and get done.

So from my perspective, @Heatblur: Take your time, and take some time off! I'm aware if you were to not meet the Winter 2019 schedule as promised, hell would break loose here in the forum. Personally, if it took another year, or two, I wouldn't even care, as long as you enjoy making the Tomcat as much as we enjoy looking forward to it.

BTW, happy Christmas to everyone (even if it's still a day early). ;)

There is definitely good news; we're getting the F-14. It's all just a waiting game now, and, that's ok. I'm not a professional, but I would almost imagine pre-selling isn't to do anything other than generate revenue for whatever reasons whatever company would see fit to pre-sell. If I order Harley parts, I have to pay now, and wait for them to show up. If I special order a specific firearm from my lgs, I have to pay up front, and wait, sometimes for a long time, for it to come in. I'm ok with it, it's mine, and I'll get it when it's delivered. Yes, I want it yesterday too, but a more polished product will surely be worth the wait.

Sorry, no cool signature here.

Agreed.

There are two winter endings. One is at end of Feb, which is the end of the meteorological winter and the other at the spring solstice which is the end of astronomical winter.

When HB said "end of winter" I took it on myself to mean the end of the astronomical winter in March.

That way I will probably not be disappointed and maybe even pleasantly surprised.

Even then things can go wrong and cause delays. We have to wish them well and be as tolerant of their mistakes as we would wish others to be tolerant of our own.

We pre orders had a choice after all. Nobody twisted our arm up our back. If you pre order, you know the deal and have to be patient. Better to forget about it until release than apply pressure and end up with a rushed and less than optimal release.

It's the adult thing to do as you stated.

I rarely think of the tomcat, I put it out of my mind until I come across another YouTube teaser, watch it, enjoy it and put it out of mind again. A watched pot and all that.....

Sipping at the fount of community hype is like picking up a 2am special in a nightclub. Sure it is exciting and full of expectation in the hedonistic setting of a dark dance floor, but out in the cold light of day, she is found to be ultimately a disappointment. Far better to enter into such a prospect without beer goggles in place.

Don't allow the hype to alter your expectations.

'First Quarter of 2019' would have been more appropriate language to use.

When I hear of 'Winter 2019' the first thing I think of is November, December 2019. Regardless of that line of thinking isn't my point, it's highlighting what I feel many people were/are thinking of.

I think the F/A-18 and F-14 are the first modules to come out with an EA access set by season rather than month, so perhaps this will be a teaching experience. Quarters aren't always great either, but when quarters don't fit I guess a month range might suffice.

I don't ask facetiously, I know people in different places do sometimes have different ideas on seasons, but you see November as Winter, and if so, is that in place of Feb or Feb/Mar?

Well they're winter, I sure won't dispute that. Although in Florida where I'm from, we don't have winter. By March I'm already considering it spring. :P

What I'm pointing out is, the tendency, I guess, for the early year months to not be included in 'Winter.'

Thanks to this whole drama that I lurked for the longest time, I now realize that any given year now technically has two 'Winters.' :P
