Going through the newest update news, I noticed this:

 

"Taking advantage of the new Dedicated Server system, MAC will allow you to earn accomplishments and points that you can then use to purchase DCS World products. The new system has a detailed point-earning system that is also tied to leader boards and record scores."

 

And I was hoping for some explanation as to how this will work.

Are we looking at an addition that mirrors other more arcade-y flight games progression/tiered systems?

How will this point system interact when purchasing DCS modules?

And what value toward modules will be earn-able through MAC?

i am biting my tongue since i read it hoping for some clarification befor the storm hits....

'controlling' the Ka50 feels like a discussion with the Autopilot and trim system about the flight direction.

Seems like it will be more than a module. Will it use the game interface, launcher & updater as DCS World? Some of the planes I fly obviously are not coming to MAC so I would be disappointed if I can't fly all planes in a single game install.

I'm assuming that this is a method of getting more people to buy into MAC. If this is how things will firmly be, I won't be getting any points, being a WWII player.

Sounds like a move to feed off existing arcade like flight sim games' more casual playerbase that are used to a progression system of unlocks

As long as they progress towards buying modules from ED I'm all for it.

 

 

I've lived through a few droughts of quality flight sims and I'd rather make some concessions like this than not have a company making top shelf flight sims...

If ED can do a Thunderstorm-like game but with better graphics, better physics, modern era jets and so on... why not? It would be a fun product and bring new life to this market.

 

 

This would also bring new customers to the hi-fi side of the sim I bet, this can benefit us all.

2018 is/was the year of micro$$$ and other bs of that kind which may be the reason why I was a bit shocked when I read this in the newsletter.

Hope for a clarification in the near future too.

To be honest it sounds a bit odd in a sandbox game. Not to mention most DCS customers probably aren't looking for the typical game experience. (Although, most new customers probably come with a wrong mindset in some way or another.)

I really hope it's not one of those "grinding" systems that take all the fun out of everything.

 

Like "get 10 kills with guns for 1 point!", "get 100 air to air kills for 1 point!", "fly 1000 nm for 1 point!".

It seems to be a very odd step to take.

 

Almost like they're trying to edge into areas covered by competitors' products, but are missing the point of why people come to DCS in the first place.

 

Doubly odd when it's from a company that once said "We'll not make any more FC3 level products".

Consider our current bonus system when you purchase products, and now think of it evolving into ways of earning those bonuses in different ways.

Its more about offering better support for events, and a way to award players, it's not about grinding or earning gear, it's simply a way to earn points towards purchases and such.

You know how you earn bonus points now correct? From purchases? Well we are looking at ways, through dedicated servers to offer community events and even our own events to have more ways to earn these type of points. I cant go into it more, once everything is finalized, more info will be released.

A stand alone game featuring FC3 level aircraft that match up, smaller maps, mission generator geared to action oriented gameplay, with a rewards system. You don't need that much more info to start visualizing what MAC will be. If rewards feed into the current system, I don't think it's going to be that radical. It's about selling content.

 

It may not suit you, or me, or some others in the current DCS crowd, but I think it will have an audience, if they can market it. If it makes a profit for ED, and helps keep the doors open, I'm all for it.

Attract casual players with more casual game "MAC" then motivate them to try the hardcore by giving them points. Pretty much plan to attract more people to spent money on DCS.

 

I just hope ED will keep the main focus on the hardcore.

That makes more sense.

But surely supporting having official events in that fashion is pretty much unrelated to MAC?

 

With that in mind, it looks from my perspective as if you're going to trial it with the MAC aircraft, but if you just said that in the first place it would have been much clearer :)

b) now with this information it sounds much better like achievements from other games, and i can relax again thank you

Was thinking you might get them for completing objectives on the dynamic campaign :music_whistling:

 

I hope there will be more bonus point special sales, with map bundles and what not.
