ED Team c0ff Posted April 13, 2020 ED Team Share Posted April 13, 2020 It is strange sitting in a ww2 German fighter speaking American English I agree. It’s a shame as it was such a good well done mod. It’s a shame ED can’t incorporate it into the game engine. Were there any requests? Dmitry S. pimp
Hi All, Can someone tell me where to place this file, "ThreatNewUS.wav"? I've modified this file since I started playing DCS, but I haven't flown the A-10 in years. So it's time to use it again but the sound file structure has changed. It is definitely one of the most annoying sounds in DCS along with the low-altitude Rad-Altimeter sound in the Hornet. Bob1
Hello. I am trying to find out why they changed the sound file structures and been reading this thread but other than a thin suggestion it is because of a new sound engine I am still in the dark here. I must believe there was a good reason for this change and not that they just poop on the customers and not care if the users cant mod their sounds like they did. Seems it is hella lot more complicated to mod your sounds. I used to look in my main game folder to see what the structure should be or even change some directly from there. I will keep digging for answers on why they did this change and if there is a soloution to get me back into modding my own sounds. I thought that was a great thing. Now I cant change anything because it is not clear on how to do it because the file structure in main game folder is not there anymore. I would be extremely grateful if someone could point me to other thread or threads that will shed some more light into this mystery. Thanks. Rudel_chw
...and not care if the users cant mod their sounds like they did. Seems that many people just took the game sound files, processed them on some audio software and then they posted that as kind of a "new and better" sound. So, ED simply protected their intellectual property and encrypted their sound files .. you can still use modded sounds, but they now must be actual original sounds instead of deriving them from ED sounds. ac5
Well, I have managed to change succesfully the engine cockpit sounds of the P-51, F-18 and A-10 by placing the modified .wav or ogg files of an old DCS in: C:\Users\MyName\Saved Games\DCS\Sounds\Effects\Aircrafts\Engines\V_1650_7\Cockpit (P-51) C:\Users\MyName\Saved Games\DCS\Sounds\Effects\Aircrafts\FA-18\Cockpit (F-18) C:\Users\acroc\Saved Games\DCS\Sounds\Effects\Aircrafts\Engines (A-10) But not a chance to do the same for the Spit. The files of an old DCS wich were in: \DCS\Sounds\Effects\Aircrafts\Engines\PackardMerlinProp\Cockpit DO NOT CHANGE the sounds of the engine in the cockpit of the Spit. Does somebody know more? Taz1004
Just use the path I told you on the very first line. I was simply explaining to you how I figured out that path. Well thank you very much for your reply, but the directory D:\Games\DCS World\Sounds\ does not exist any more... It has been replaced by D:\Games\DCS World\Sounds.edc\ Umm... that's why I said it "Should be replaced by...???" And the folder is there. It's just encoded into Sounds.edc. So if you put the correct sound file under Saved Games under same structure, it will be replaced. Moreover, I don't understand what is the utility of opening D:\Games\DCS World\Doc\Sounds\sdef_and_wave_list.txt and search for "RollsRoyce" ?? "sdef_and_wave_list.txt" tells you the new path structure. Again, I was simply explaining how the new structure works but seems like you just didn't want to understand. Well, other ones... ED just didn't make it that way. People ask why they did it this way for sounds but my guess is because of licensing. Unless ED recorded all the sounds themselves, they probably purchased a library and one of the terms surely was "No distribution". Packaging them as encoded file is okay but distributing the sound file raw probably was against the licensing. You can package cockpit texture as Cockpit mod and then put them in Saved Games. Or if you don't play online, just put them in Main install path with OvGME.
