I believe the T-38 or T-45 have a tactical training manual out there somewhere on the internet. Covers what an F/A-18 pilot would learn in training regarding ground attack techniques, tactical formations, that kind of thing.

For air to air combat I recommend Pete Bonani's Art of the Kill. Great book on the fundamentals.

Is there any combat manual available for combat techniques?

If you mean BFM and ACM, there's a plethora of YT videos and some unrelated stuff that can also be used, such as judicous use of countermeasures and SAM avoidance. I am now at a stage where I can beat most AIs on 1v1 but I'm always exploding on the pvp servers - usually due to lack of SA or losing sight in a turning fight. Hope you fair better against the air quakers.

Thanks I mean any combat manual with evasive manoeuvres, attack, acm techniques

Internet maybe yes, there are things there that could be loosely transposed to the game, but we don't have the official "DCS Tactics" documents.

Hence the YT channels, where people show this and that, Wags has got access to real-life fighter jet drivers, so I find his videos quite informative.

Like this one for example

Yeah, there are a few floating out there on the net. I’ve not seen anything Hornet specific - but there are some on the F-16 if you search for the correct terms such as tactics manual, 3-3, etc. While not aircraft specific - the concepts are exactly the same. BFM is the same, dive bombing is the same, Sam avoidance is the same, etc.

I suggest you look for "Fighter Combat - Tactics and Maneuvering" by Robert L. Shaw. It´s relative expensive, but said to be the bible on the topic and definately worth the 50 bucks.

+ 1 re Shaw's book.

Of key importance, learn the weakness and strength of the aircraft you want to fight in but also just as important the adversary you expect to fly and fight against. If your new choose one aircraft, master that before learning another module.

The key to winning is thinking and pushing your adversary into his weaknesses whilst fighting in your strengths - which is the same for any combat.

You should know your flight envelope and his, not second guessing what the numbers are for degrees per second of turn, climb performance etc, learn when to keep energy and when to lose it.

It's very likely that little has changed since then, when it comes to how to employ various systems and weapons. The radar interface in that document is very similar to what we have in our Hornet, for example. For most if not all intents and purposes in DCS, you probably don't need anything more modern.

Mouse signed my (first edition) copy back in 2003 or something like that. He was a great guy. He and Hoser are somewhere trying to get angles on each other, I'm sure.

It's something you read more than once.

Most of the maneuvers used today were developed in 1917/1918. Maybe not the "launch 10 AMRAAMs and run for home" technique, but those other things...

I was just having a bit of a laugh. Yes, the concepts are roughly the same and as a beginners manual to the concepts, its fine.

There are several newer ones out there. Google "F-16 3-3 manual". Some are even block 50/52 specific.
