It wasn't clear if there was any SS in that video with the oculus rift S. Probably not so it will look bad. I find it can be quite sharp, but that low res means that ultimately you lose detail inbetween the pixels. Its just not possible for it to render as cleanly. Looking forward to the G2, I just hope/wish that DCS will support WMR natively. I did see a post about the Varjo headset support.... great but too much money for most users and a bit more unexpected considering the general VR implementation and performance isn't great yet.

I am still not convinced if MS realy has a long term commitment for its WMR stuff - heck even their own brand new flightsimulation still has no definite road to VR but a vague commitment to implement it somewhen after release.

I really would like to see a VR headset someday using the hardware of the Reverb G2 (or even better) in the same price range but based on at least Steam VR or Oculus VR or even some open VR system instead of using WMR as the basis.

Yeah that one ( MSFS 2020) not having native VR support out the chute surprised me, especially with MS having WMR.

HP Reverb G2 Announced - next Gen

MS doesn’t seem very enthusiastic about the WMR segment, there has been no new announcement from them regarding new VR tech (likely didn’t generate sizable revenue). Most headsets are still using the good old 2-camera tracking technology.

HP seems to be the only company pushing it, other WMR vendors either have pulled out or remain silent. In the next few years, hopefully everybody will go OpenXR route to reduce fragmentation.

My Rift S does look better (a bit).

My rift s looks much better than the video, through the lens will always look bad but just shows how good the HP will be in the flesh.

They haven't been very enthusiastic about Microsoft Store or Cortana either. But haven't dropped them for a long time. Heck, nobody uses Internet Explorer anymore but it still comes with Windows 10. MS never really drops anything.

so VR in the US represents about a $3Bn market share of which gaming represents about 40% so 1.2Bn all up, gaming as a whole represents about 118bn for the US ...

and whilst VR is a growing market share you were surprised that they didn't invest 1000's of man days in dev/test to accommodate 1% (or there abouts) of the market as a whole ... when they can add it in later ... don't get me wrong I love VR and I love flying in it, but i think i understand their decision... :pilotfly:

I think that's a flaw in your logic there. You can't factor in the entire gaming industry when discussing flight sim and VR. Flight sim market alone in US is only about 3 billion. Of course 3 billion you mentioned for VR probably is not entirely for flight sim either but I'm sure is much higher than 1% as simulation is VR's biggest appeal.

And they have not confirmed whether it will be added in later. It's just a top priority "Wish" list.

So with that reasoning why did they even bother with WMR? Or collaborate with HP and Valve on the Reverb G2? Now perhaps MSFS 2020 was well into development before WMR came along, and they figured we'll just wait as we can always add it later if it continues to grow. Who knows.

Makes me appreciate Valve for Half Life Alyx. Only company being proactive about VR and trying to lead and expand. Whereas all others just wants to observe and follow.

I know what you mean, but I think WMR is the open VR system (ish). It does seem a bit disjointed that MS2020 and WMR are not paired from the outset but given that the xbox hasn't dabbled with VR that could be why. When it does, it will presumably be WMR native. I really hope DCS can be WMR native too, just makes life easier. Like oculus easier. Oculus likely to chase the lower end gaming market with a standalone headset. That is great on its own but I think likely to push it away from the sim market.

Well I’m not surprised that VR is not yet supported in MS FS2020. At present state, I can’t even maintain 45 fps at 4K high (not ultra) setting whereas in DCS I typically get 90-100+. With VR it would be in the 20-30s on a high end PC. If you think DCS frame rate is bad, wait for that one.

A lot. I paid the same amount (€600 with tax) WITH controllers from this same store. They should ask for a lower price.

I think its an error. The one with controllers is 700€ but you can get a 100€ discount code on their site bringing it down to 600€.

Was just browsing the reverb Reddit thread. The G2 needs a USB C port that supplies 6w of power. If you don't have one you will have to get an C to A adapter and use the included powerbrick to plug in the headset to an outlet as well.

My Mobo has a USB c port but I've never used it and not sure if it supplies enough power. I guess another option is to get a pcie USB card that has a C port.

No it's just 1 product; below it's say's; order with a temporary discount code; REVERBG2 for a €100 discount.

It''s only shady that in such a way that maybe people will order it without this code so they get more profit but they don't sell Reverb G2's without controllers.

Very shady for a gold reseller... I don't trust them. Not all reviews are good. So even with € 100,00 discount. I really only go for the HP official site. Sadly still not for pre-sale in my country. :D

My MB does have a front panel USB C-Port, which is hooked up to front of my case.

My Quest with Link works just fine in it so hopefully my Reverb G2 will also.

Is the Reverb G2 for me?

Hi, everybody:

I only use virtual reality on DCS, and I'm just about to pre-order a new Reverb G2 because it looks like it's going to be the best to use in simulation, and take advantage of the 100 Euro discount on the pre-purchase.

But first I would like to ask a question to those of you who currently have a Reverb:

My equipment is a Rayzen 3700X, with 32 GB at 3600MHz and an RTX 2080.

Do you think this is enough equipment to handle the new G2?

Reading forums around, I see that the graphics are fair, but people who have 1080 Ti and 2080 "just" say that it is enough - logically a 2080 Ti will go better, since it is known that for GPU VR you always want the best and it will still be little?

Currently I fly with a Rift S, always OffLine and in light missions, and I am happy with the performance as long as I don't go to PD higher than 1.2. This way I get 40 fps with active ASW on smooth NOE flights.

As people justify that the Reverb does not need to increase the PD they say that the performance even improves, but of course they usually come from flying with high PDs: 1.7 or even more in their previous HMDs, hence my doubts...

I look forward to your contributions, which will always be welcome...

Regards
