Yep that 3080ti will be pricey. Especially if you need to swap out other components too. I recently read some article where it said the 3080ti needs a more powerful psu connector, could be a 12pin instead of 8. So for some people that have modular psu's I guess you add another cable if you have the room and ability.

Otherwise you may need another psu. Not so expensive in reality but it's always a pain to swap out psu's.

That is weird. Why wouldn't they just use two 6 pin connectors? Most higher-end PSUs I've used recently have two 6+2 connectors.

I'm guessing we can still use a 6+2 as that is what I've always seen as well. So you would need 3 6+2 pin connectors.

I just hope it fits in my mid size atx case. If I end up having to buy a new case because it's a much beefier card than my ROG strix 1080ti, I might as well just rebuild with a newer CPU/memory and Mobo.

I've read mixed opinions on the 12-pin connector (some sources say it is confirmed at least for Founder's Edition cards, others say it will go to computer OEMs only). It's designed to deliver up to something crazy like 600W (the card is supposed to draw in the 300-350 range i think?), but all the pins are still just 12V and ground. So an adapter to go from a pair of 8-pins would seem like a reasonable expectation unless the power draw on these cards really is bonkers.

Edit: And come to think of it, 300-350W is bonkers.

I have an 850w psu now and yea 300-350w for the card alone is crazy to think about.

Founders edition is what I will be getting if I can snag one. Not taking my chances waiting for third parties as who knows how long that will take before you can grab one. My card is still fine now but I can tell it is getting old for as long as I've had it. I'm seeing a few inconsistencies with it every now and then.

I am hooked on EVGA and have been for years, so I will wait for their 3080 Ti FTW 3 card or whatever they do to be equivalent. Going to be interesting.

Those models are usually great. I had one of the earlier models at some point and was able to sell it before I got my 1080ti. Great quality, and solid performance.

EVGA and Asus Rog strix models are usually my go to's. Have had way to many issues with gigabyte and other brands. I wish all the third party AIB's would come out at the same time as the founders editions. Waiting sucks but it's worse when they just release and they sell out.

Took me like 4 months to get my current 1080ti because I didn't want FE and wanted a decent third party brand. They would sell out so quick.

So I know people generally shun Founders Edition, but other than the silly name, what are the main drawbacks? (My 1080 is EVGA but mainly because it was a good buy). I know cooling solutions vary and some come pre-OC'd, but is there something else to it?

The founders editions basically set the price point for the other cards or they have in the past. They usually do come pre over clocked and for those that want to really push the overclock, people have said they don't go as far? I really never bothered to overclock my GPU. Mainly because it takes a long time to test everything for stability and I get bored running benchmarks all day.

Other than that, the cooling solution was shunned upon because they used to use a blower. But I don't think cooling this time will be a problem with the 3 series.

For the 2000-series / Turing cards the main limitation was card TDP. The main aftermarket cards main advantage is / was bios rules which allowed considerably higher TDP limits. Often this would shift the limiting factor from TDP to something else (temperature, clock speed or whatever).

If I upgrade this cycle I will probably wait for aftermarket cards. Either an EVGA FTW3 or Galax.

Mainly the silicon/over-clock ability along with improved cooling solutions.

My EVGA RTX 2080 Ti FTW3 runs at a consistent 2.1 GHz boost with GPU temps in mid to upper 50's. Rarely breaks over 60c.

Last 2 generations of nvidia GPU support automatic overclocking which works just fine if you are not pro-overclocker. It requires 30 mins of time tops and doesn't require you to do anything

I think an often-overlooked advantage of the blower cards is that the hot air is directly exited from the case , offering the potential for all the other components to run cooler . Not so much an issue for me now , but my previous case had relatively poor cooling and no effective means of rectifying , so i appreciated the direct exit feature .

I got an email from Connections today saying the G2 I ordered on July 16 is out of stock, with a delivery date TBD. To me, that sounds like earlier orders have eaten up the first batch of headsets . I wonder how many that was, and where I am in the production line.

I placed my pre-order directly with HP (via "Connections") on July 13, and haven't gotten a similar notice to yours, knock on wood. That seems to suggest the cutoff for the first batch (ordered through them, here in the US) was somewhere between 13 and 16 July.

Same here and I ordered on July 8th.

I have not received any notice from Connections.
