I'll buy new PC for Summer\Autunm, but now I have GF 7300GT but it should be enough (?) for 5-3 year game :D even if it is flight game :D

PS. How to get this green TV looking?

I think Lockon looks great at high altitude, and I like the graphics alot "colorwise" even if it's not "technically" spectacular..

I agree that it sometimes seams to be taxing the GPU alot relative to what you see compared to other sims.

On my system (amd x2 4400, 8600[w/e two letters there were], 2gb ram) the water settings make a HUGE difference no matter if I see water or not.

For sure EDs actual engine isnt flawless, but which is ? You will always have the tradeoff between the visual quality and your hardware. But im afraid we will have to live with that for as long as the vidcards dont make a real huge leap forward on power...

where can i download this mod, and whats fps on it ? For me it looks a little bit like ArmA.

It is Armed Assault. FPS on it are comparable to Lock On.

I don't want to go offtopic but since it's a 3D engine thread...

ArmA II

Ok, the first one is just a teaser ;)

Note that surface looks comparable or worse to what we have in BS but better behid the road. Right COLOR and lightning preferences of the surface (a bit plastic-like in LO) can do alot!

As for flares in LO - on medium specs releasing bunch of flares causes fps drop from lets say 50 to 20 (?). Do the math yourself - how big relative fps drop is caused by a SINGLE effect. Add an explosion effect on fps and I'm not sure if you'll end up with less than 80% drop.

Be reasonable in designing 3D engine. If one think being reasonable is not that important, one should give an option so that people may turn specific effect off. Rather than hunt for .pfx files and delete it :)

@Bucic - I didn't know BoBII has so good graphics :surprise:

And it's dirt cheap!

I have BOBII.......the graphics do NOT compare with LOFC....let alone DCS:BS

Aye - those NOE Screenies posted above are FUGLY :P

That aside, as said you rarely fight in the dirt and if so the last place you should be looking at is the Grasslands if you have a Spitfire on your six.

Having read rave reviews of the Flight Model and Dynamic campaign i'm pretty tempted to give it a go - eagerly awaiting Storm of War: Battle of Britain though............

I preordered BOBII on release and was generally dissapointed with it.....just seemed unpolished and didnt really shine at any particular thing....i fired up FC afterwards and didnt look back.

In all honestly i didnt give it much of a chance as im a fast jet guy at heart and perhaps the patches release since have improved things but im awaiting BOBSOW too.

talking of which....any further news?

Holy crap! that arma shots look freaking insane. Especially the Mig 21. DAMN!!!!! WOW!! yeah! I totally agree....thats what ED needs to keep on file....print out on a poster and paste it in the front of the engine developer's office door.

1. ArmA is an FPS(im). I agree with the >"to look most real" rather than "to look nice"< philosophy though.

2. It's not a MiG-21. It's Mi-24 Hind.

I absolutley do not agree to first opinion of this thread

Of course, I also think much of efficinecy of GPU for reducing loading on GPU.

but as a flight simulation gamer, Graphic is not the first.

Of course, graphic effects which have influences on game play, for example, identifying splash1,2,3 at far distance, or idetifying ground targets at appropriate diatance most same with in real real world, is important. (and more: altittude, velocity awareness by water, ground texture..............................)

But even now, I expensed money much on hardware than software just for playing almost only LOFC. (In addition, I regard flight simulation as improtant than other games) I don't want expense more money on hardware.

The better, BS's graphic advace more, considering aspects of graphic level of recent games, so I suggest BS give us broad width of choice in graphic detail, effects. If only Possible!! just my hope at this time.

I think you misspelled Mi-24 :P

this "new engine" looks like the old engine with some update. 2D trees?? :) i guess this is the reason why ed not give source code for free, because they know very well the simulator fanatics are able make a better simulator faster, with less bugs and better 3D models like they ever did. buy DCS and chase AI choppers, that's will be very exciting...i really hope, belive and wish this DCS will be a total wash-out. i won't buy it till not reached the $1.99 in any food store and petrol station...

Don't offend but that what you are talking is bullshit is most of cases.

How can they publish source code if copyrights have UBI? Well fanatics can make only better models, graphic textures ect but I don't believe they could do a game with less bugs or faster or omg "better simulator".... To do this is needed HUGE programming knownlegde and known about avionics, systems, physics. And most important - known from manufacturers - example Kamov, MiG, Sukhoi. I also regreat (very) ED isn't Microsoft which did FS series opened to modding wonderful graphics ect... but I know they are making what they can. Maybe some day we will see DCS like FS structure with amazing graphics and super perfrmance. But for now cases is what we see and we must accept that.

Haven't payed attention lately have we? :)

Later DCS modules will use new 3D graphics engine. Already in the works.

And trust me, there is heck of alot more to Black Shark than "just updated 2D trees".

59th_Putyin do you know something about game developpement?

I know a little (very little) and I can tell you, making some realy good 3D models and textures is ok for an amator but... designing a game, (coding and gameplay) is a lot harder and couldn't be done just on free time...

The 3D engine is good enough for helicopter simulation, Flight Simulator has better gfx but you need a compter that doesn't exist today (I have a Geforce 8800 Ultra and a 3.12 Core2 DUO. In my opinion, it's the minimal spec for FSX (it gets only 15 fps in complex areas and my settings are set on medium low...)

A simulator MUST run at least at 30 FPS in order to have good simulation calculs and for combat flight simulation you need more than 40 FPS...

In addition, FSX is realy good for NAV and eye candyes gfx but it's not a simulator (no physic engine, the plane 'fly' only using a realy simple model)

To conclude, if you realy think that using Lock on source code you can make a good game, take a look at Flight gear and tune this open source simulator in order to have a Black Shark 4 with photo realistic scenery and perfect physic engine...

Hum first you should learn more about math and phyisic...

What I said was only for your information, it's not against you because I realy think you just don't know what you are talking about...

i hope some competitor comes out some kind of useable sim soonest and we can forget this home made "superspecialveryhardcorenewenginedirectx11simulator.

so, btw i dont want to discouss about this fantastic, best graphic ever seen demo maker company like this one. see ya guys at the lobby. i just told my opinion, apologize its hurts.

To all,

Although we've gone over this about a dozen times, let me repeat it again.

Currently, DCS is running on ED's "old" engine ("TFCSE"). We have been clear about this from our original DCS announcement. While the engine has been significantly updated for Black Shark, ED is not stopping there. They are currently developing an entirely new game engine, which DCS will hopefully transition to. When - we don't know and will not estimate.

Given the specific requirements for the TFCSE engine and that it is much older, I don't think it's appropriate to compare it to other engines currently in development, especially for products in a different genre. I'm confident though, that ED's new engine will feature all of the contemporary technologies it would require. Then, you can compare apples to apples.
