Hi Taz1004,

Thanks for this great mod!!

I wשs trying to see the dds files but got a message it is "coruupted" or something, while I can open and see Barthek trees just fine.

Is there a certain other way to see your trees from the zip files?

Thank you!

I compressed my textures with BC7. DCS default and other terrain mods are compressed with BC3 I believe. What version of Photoshop and Nvidia plugin do you have?

You can view BC7 compressed dds's with Nvidia Testure Tool Standalone.

Nvidia Texture Tool

I think you can export them as BC3 again if you'd like to view and edit with your softwares.

I'm not an artist and don't know how to handle those tools other than watching.

Since I override Bartheks's trees with your trees, I just wanted to compare the trees you created to Barthek's trees.

I like to experiment with 'mix and match' and manipulate textures sometimes, in a 'reverse engineering' kind of way...

Many thanks for your work!!

Any suggestion(s) for AMD-GPUs ? - to open/view BC7 dds files outside of PhotoShop.

BTW: Would be great a BC7 plugin for XnView

Unfortunately, models can't be edited. At least to my knowledge. There are so many things I want to fix if I have access to the models.

Also as a fun fact, trees may appear to touch each other from distance but if you actually go into forest and look up at all the branches, most of them do not touch each other. It's a phenomenon called Crown shyness. Tree's have always been practicing social distancing.

How can some people make aircraft mods to DCS like F35 etc?

If they can change or add these mods there may be a way to create another tree models!

Yes ED provide un-encrypted EDM files for vehicles such as aircrafts. And they even provide you with EDM exporter. But not for terrain assets. Only textures. Agaiin, AFAIK.

You can create new ground assets. But then someone has to place them in the missions.

We could ask the ability to create terrain decorations mod in DCS wish list!

You can open BC7 dds files with MS Visual Studio's. You can get the community version for free.

Not much editing options there however.

Thanks but MS VS does not open files to me. When I try to open DSS files it runs other viewers 4xmpl ignite XnView for dds files and that brings/shows the same/usual motley BC7 compression.

What I am doing wrong ?

You sure you have the right visual studio?

Strange. Im confused. It starts with: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio\2019\Community\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe

BTW: thanks for the help

I see. I think you didn't install the correct workloads or components.

Step 4 in the link below.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/visualstudio/install/install-visual-studio?view=vs-2019

I believe the required are .NET desktop development and Game development with C++

Also from Step 5, choose Windows 10 SDK for UWP and Desktop.

And I think you can access that option again by going to Tools - Get Tools and Features. Don't have to reinstall.

Thank You ! It works now. Installed: NET desktop dev., Desktop Dev. C++ and Game Dev. C++ however it costs 3Gb on my HDD.

My PS also able to visualize BC7 files - same as MS VS.

BTW: would you mind recommending me a REALLY quick BC7 viewer, with pressing only one key (4xmpl arrows or page up/down) to see next/previous BC7 file(s) in a folder ..or thumbnails viewer/PLUGIN ?

There are some open source ones on github but nothing like Windows photo app. DDS files are not intended for end users.

Good thing about VS is that it shows you how the image is compressed. I use PS mostly but I had to use VS to find out original DCS textures formats because PS just opens them and doesn't tell you.

You can remove the Desktop Dev C++ to save some space.

Hello Taz004, in your latest version 4, there is 2 files which are folders (not zip), concretely "Noisewinter" and "Noisewinter.min"... this could represent any issue?? Thanks

No that was intentional to make it compatible with other terrain mods. Putting files into a non-compressed folder with same name as zip is a way to replace specific files of that zip.

Could you make some random dark areas on the ground below trees(textured like foliage) to create a more continuous tree crown effect?

This Caucasus Redone mod does something a bit like this but it could be better!

https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=255247

I made them white as it was requested by some. You can just delete the Noisewinter and Noisewinter.min folders from my mod to revert back to Barthek's or default ground texture.
