Better Trees for Caucasus V6

Okay. Because when i tried to activate it with JSME knowing that "Caucasus Redone" is already activated i have a WARNING message :

 

"ForestSubctrateAutumn.zip" has already been altered by the "Caucasus Redone 2020 v1 by Barthek" mod.
"ForestSubctrateSpring.zip" has already been altered by the "Caucasus Redone 2020 v1 by Barthek" mod.

So no issue there, you'll benefit from the trees if you enable it after.

They're simply texture swap. In many cases reduced in size as I mentioned so it should be more efficient. My Summer texture pack for example is 9 MB. Default is 35 MB. Most of these reduction comes from reducing normal maps and barks which should not effect visual quality.

Trees are instanced so saving little bit of texture memory wouldn't yield great performance boost but it can't be worse. I haven't done any benchmark but my in game frame rate hasn't changed.

 

I don't even know why these have normal maps. Even billboards. Just default Speed Tree setting they kept. I would get rid of them if I can but I can't.

 

These look a lot better in VR than in the screenshots in my opinion. I'm having a lot of fun flying over them.

 

 

Pretty sure I've gotten a performance bump. I used to run trees settings really low and get 45fps. After enabling this mod I moved trees to 100% and still maintain 45fps with high texture settings.

I don't use that mod manager so I'm not sure but that probably means it's installed with conflict.  And can be ignored.

If you don't want to see that error, delete those conflicting zip files from Barthek's mod.

Yes that's done on purpose.  They need to be in separate folder.

Syria may be heavy in content but Ugra did very good job optimizing textures.  Syria vfsTextures is only 1.8GB compared to Caucasus 4GB.  They don't have any 32bit normal maps or oversized bark textures like ED.

I, for one, am very grateful for your tree mod.  This is how the world looks to me when Im above it all.  The ground is a drab lettuce but in my world, we have alot of evergreen- spruce, pine, cedar and this is just what DCS needs.  Not to forget that landscape doesn't need to be high definition is the jet world.  So file size is very important.  The smaller the file size, the less work any GPU/CPU has to do to display the effect.  I do wish programmers would understand this basic of principles.  No- they'd rather put 10 gigs of earth in one zip file or 20 zip files...there are simply better ways of doing things.   

Brings me to mind the ReShade.   I get a 40% boost in framerate using ReShade....so Why in God's name can't any sim developer grasp the ReShade concept of clean, smoothe display operations?
