Inseckt Posted February 29, 2012 Posted February 29, 2012 What game is that? I think it's called football, apparently it has become quite popular lately. seems like the objective is to deliver a ball on the adjacent side of the "field" using only your feet and/or head, and without being captured by the opponent team. It's quite lucrative, some of the best players make hundreds of dollars each month... Help Beczl with his DCS MiG-21Bis project by Pre-Ordering DCS MiG-21Bis module NOW! Speed Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 It's football. Hmm... what you call "football" looks kinda like the game "kickball" I used to play during recess with the rest of my classmates when I was about 9 or 10. After that age, however, the teachers finally started allowing us to play football instead. The fear was, as football is a real men's game where you actually tackle each other ground, and bodies slam together at high velocities, us little kids might have gotten hurt playing it.. our bones were too soft. Even as it was, they only let us play tag football for the first few years after that. There was an extremely unpopular variation on kickball called "soccer", but most of us found it very boring, and only the unpopular kids played it. Speed Posted March 1, 2012 Posted March 1, 2012 (edited) That would explain the exhorbitant amounts of padding then :P Real Men play Rugby! :D Rugby's not bad, but without passing, it's just too one dimensional to stay exciting, IMO :) And what the padding is used for is to allow bodies to slam together at even higher speeds than would be possible otherwise. leafer Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 I never knew they hit each other that hard in rugby. Damn. Regardless what it's call, it takes a heck of a lot more skills to get a ball from A to B with your foot. Now think about that massive amount of real estate a goalkeeper has to protect, mad skill there. ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P
Tez Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 I played rugby once. What surprised me is the amount of excitement and big boosts of force coming from nowhere. Like you are completely exhausted, almost unable to breath, to move, then ball suddenly appears at your reach and... force is with you again, you take it away and run. A couple of minutes later you are a deadman, a real deadman unable to breath without terrible pain in whole body, body collapses and goes on its own ignoring you. That's the end you think, until ball comes close to you once again. The story repeats. Forces rises, you takes ball, run. Human resources coming from nowhere is what amazes me. I didn't meet this phenomenon in other sport games. I'm not a trained sportsman. [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] =653=Tez

The thing that gives Football a bad name and annoys the hell out of me is a lot of the Mediterranean players, Portuguese, Italians etc spend half the time prancing around the field, diving, jumping on the ground and rolling feigning injury. They'd make a Prima Ballerina blush with their shenanigans. The other thing is when they score a goal they run around like superman and have all their team jump on them like a bunch of nancies rubbing their heads and grabbing their balls and whatever else they get up to. Some of them seem like they slipped off the bicycle saddle a few times too much when they were younger. Edited March 2, 2012 by RIPTIDE [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC]
leafer Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 If you've played football before then you know it's pretty darn difficult to score a goal, so I'm ok with them prancing for few seconds. As for diving, I don't think it's a regional thing. Almost all of them do it, and Christiano Ronaldo is or used to be the dive master, and I couldn't stand him. The diving is what kills the game for me sometimes, especially during the WC, but I still love football. Check out what Thierry Henry and Zinedine Zidane can do in their prime. ED have been taking my money since 1995. :P

Confess! :D What gives bad name to football is the stuff that happens outside the pitch. So what about dives? The next day viewers all forgotten about it. Oh yeah, wheres the Irish team? :devil_2: better have it finally qualified instead of whatching other teams all the time and belly aching about fair-play. :P Edited March 2, 2012 by Pilotasso .

RIPTIDE Posted March 2, 2012 Posted March 2, 2012 Oh yeah, wheres the Irish team? :devil_2: Don't know. Don't really care. Our national sports are Hurling and Gaelic Football. That's where most of the talent go. I've admired some of the soccer/footballers talent, but as a Sport, I always considered it a distraction for the working class, poor, unclean types.
