Darpa Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 I have noticed that a fair number of people in the VR forums seems to have Nvidia 30xx cards. I am assuming most of us are on the same planet so I am curious as to how people are getting them (I am obviously one of many who want one, a 3090, and can't find one). Are you: 1) Just plain lucky or had perfect timing somewhere 2) Paying scalper prices 3) Buying a pre-built system (Alienware, Asus etc.) that comes with one and they are actually successfully shipping with them 4) Other? Thanks for your comments.
zildac Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 Personally I got very lucky and found one on Alza in December. Paid RRP for it. Post Brexit (I'm in the UK) Alza have temporarily stopped shipping to the UK 14900KS | Maximus Hero Z690 | ASUS 4090 TUF OC | 64GB DDR5 6600 | DCS on 2TB NVMe | WarBRD+Warthog Stick | CM3 | TM TPR's | Varjo Aero
agrasyuk Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 (edited) my friend was able to walk out of store with a 3070 around Christmas time. perfect timing that is probably going to be very rare - there are guys camping outside the microcenter in Chicago, in sufficient numbers to overcome the one card per person within 30days policy. chances are they will pick out whatever cards make it to the shelves. In retrospect I probably should have approached them with a cash deal proposition to save us both the time , the double-tax and the ebay fee. options 2 and 3 are available. You could also try and get into the EVGA que on their website. no idea of current wait times Edited April 14, 2021 by agrasyuk Anton. My pit build thread . Simple and cheap UFC project
Snowy55 Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 It seems to me the only way to get one in the UK is option 3, i.e buy a pre-built PC system. My son in Australian finally got a 3080 recently after ordering one months ago. Rig: RTX 4080, 11th Gen Intel Core i7 11700K, 32GB DDR4 RAM, 3xSSD Drives, TM F/A18 Grip on Virpil WarBrd base, Honeycomb Bravo throttle, VKB-Sim T Rudder Pedals MkIV, Virpil MongoosT-50CM throttle, Varjo Aero.

unlikely_spider Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 I got a 3080 and a 3060ti through Best Buy - I check their app often for stock. I also got another 3080 through EVGA's queue because I hit Notify early on. The last one is not really an option anymore. People also have success waiting in line early mornings at Micro Center. Modules: Wright Flyer, Spruce Goose, Voyager 1
Dodge Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 #1 I was lucky and checked an online store (scan.co.uk) on Xmas eve where there was orders available for my 3070. I took a punt thinking it was an error on the vendors site, but to my pleasant surprise, several days later the 3070 arrives. Thanks for your comments. I got my 3090 pretty quickly after I set up the extension "Distill" in Google Chrome which checks automatically once an item is available for purchase. I set Distill up to check Newegg and Amazon every 30 seconds and was able to order a FTW3 3090 within a few days. This was back in November, not sure if the situation changed in the meantime. dburne Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 In my case I used the EVGA notification que for my 3090 FTW3 Ultra and got it in November. I know the que for the 3080's is still moving quite slow. javelina1 Posted April 14, 2021 Posted April 14, 2021 I lucked out and got my 3090FE via Bestbuy (online), during the Thanksgiving holiday week. I also received an EVGA RTX3070 XC3 (for my Son). DavePastry Posted May 3, 2021 Posted May 3, 2021 skipped my mid cycle pc upgrade and just went with a new prebuilt, figured I might as well just eat the loss this year and get back on track next cycle. I910900K, 4090, 32gb,Varjo Aero, no compromises: all VR all the time.
Burt Posted May 5, 2021 Posted May 5, 2021 I’m looking forward into building my first gaming pc in the future but right now it’s to much of a waiting game ect. I’m on my 2nd year of prebuilt and my new R11/3090 is hold it’s own with DCS which is the only game I play. It took about 3 solid weeks to get it. I’m very happy with this new rig, but when the time comes I would like to custom build my own. All NVidia 3000 series gpu have a vram temp issue but mean plays steady 88-92c while gaming. I think it’s an engineering fault i believe. But the 3090 and VR are like a peanut and butter sandwich. If you haven't done so, take a look on internet threads regarding under volting the 3080/3090's. folks are still able to get the desired performance, with reduced temps, etc... Yeah I may give it a test myself. The card actually runs pretty cool/normal 72-75c it’s just the vram and in order to calm that down it takes disassemble and thermal pads or paste. If I was a miner I would have done that already, but it’s actually not that bad as I just run DCS and all it’s glory on this rig. Thanks for the heads up!
