Ability to place some ground units on ships or sea-shelf objects

With all the helicopters we're getting now, it'd be nice if we could place infantry onto the decks of ships and onto the various oil and gas platforms available in game. The reasoning here is that it would be good to create things like boarding actions via helicopter insert, or for cases to stop the ship from leaving an area with WMDs onboard with a bunch of dudes shooting at the helicopter trying to get the ship to stop.

This could also allow us to simulate 'armed merchant ships' by placing infantry and certain weapon systems on the deck that we now have to worry about. I'm sure the list of possible scenarios people could dream up for this ability are endless...

This was requested here before just recently (as most wishes on this forum 😋)

But yes, that would be a very welcome feature

Well, technically it is possible to place units on most of these objects, it's just not supported in ME: you need to place them with Lua scripts. Once placed, they can't really do much. Also, placing them on static (unmoving) ships is hit/miss (depends if the have a hit box to place stuff on), and this currently won't work (well) with moving ships:

I've included a proof of concept mission that uses enhanced 'spawn zones' to place these troops with ME and allows troop helos (Huey, Hip, Hind) to pick them up and drop them. If you want to experiment with the spawn zones, please ensure that you make the 'baseName' attribute unique, or the spawners will compete for group names, and start replacing each other's groups.

I have only just realised(!) that you cannot place ground units e.g. infantry, on ships (LST Mk.II for example) It is possible to place STATIC objects on ships but DCS doesn't include INFANTRY in the list of static objects for some obscure reason?  I am aware that there is a PERSONNEL section but this only refers to carrier personnel.  With the upcoming update to infantry wouldn't this be an essential feature?
Is it planned?

@Wroblowaty - Do check out the DML tool box by @cfrag.

You will be able to do what you want, I know, I have done it using this tool.

You do not need to know how to write scripts, using the tool, which is NOT a mod, is a simple copy and paste.

There is a module called "clone". You just place the zone over the rig and specify the units you want to be placed there.

Visit the Dangerdogz at www.dangerdogz.com. We are a group based on having fun (no command structure, no expectations of attendance, no formal skills required, that is not to say we can not get serious for special events, of which we have many). We play DCS and IL2 GBS. We have two groups one based in North America / Canada and one UK / Europe. Come check us out.

Indeed, it works great in the Higgins boats, cars, trucks and men are "slightly floating" when I put them on the larger WW2 liberty ships.
