I want proper starter buttons too

I don’t know why I went looking. I really don’t have the room to build a full scale Lancaster sim pit but wouldn’t one be great? 😁. Maybe just treat myself to the buttons? Thinking of convincing Mrs Slippa it’s a great idea by explaining how they’d double up as Spitfire starters too. So two for the price of… Hmmm, four buttons? Ok, I may have to rethink this.

For those brave souls/utter lunatics that are thinking of building a Lancaster pit, this site I found could have you drooling. https://www.raf-surplus.co.uk/avro-lancaster-parts.php

Ooh, switches too?

Looking forward to the progress report anyhow. Gagging to fly it, and try to land it.

Not sure if you are in the discord but this was our april update

April Update
Hey everyone! It has been a bit since the last update, but rounding out the first quarter of 2024 we have done quite a bit! We've also added a new member to our modeling and texturing team, @FuriousVoid, and hopefully you have gotten to talk to him a little already. Most of the work done in the last few months is under-the-hood (I know, I know, that is what everyone always says), and most of what Scooby has shown has been our cosmetic changes, but I am more than happy to share what we've developed lately.

Texture and Model Work: As we introduce a new modeler to the group, we are working on standardizing all our materials and techniques to get a consistent feel to the aircraft. We have pretty good references to match what things looked like in the 40's, and not just what they look like now. On top of our work in consistency, we are slowly making a pass at all our placeholder models and textures, to put in our final/close to final high quality textures and models. We are striving for a quality of at least the attached Engineer's panel (photo courtesy of Scooby posted on the forum).

Debugging: A lot has gone into making our project easier to test and debug. Creation of loggers, automation of internal debug/dev and release/test builds, etc. What this means for our eventual user is that there will be as little overhead as possible when flying. What this means for us is that we can continue to develop more advanced systems, and get accurate measures of our data to compare to the next point...

FM Work: Loki has put a ton of work into the FM, like always. We are continually aiming to hit wartime numbers more closely. Importantly in dives, climbs, landings, etc. Drag has been a key issue we have been working on, as getting a realistic drag is crucial to our dives and landings. Our numbers and charts match the reference ones pretty nicely. There's also been work on our representation of the Merlin engine, its supercharger, and props.

Autopilot: The meat and potatoes of the Lancaster's Autopilot Mk IV has been implemented. Awaiting are more realistic gyroscope physics, but the basis is there and the autopilot is fully functional. This will prove an important part of the Lancaster's strategic bombing missions.

Other systems are of course being constantly fine tuned. Realistic pneumatics to power the brakes and autopilot were implemented, and hydraulics get a new pass every time I look at them and cringe. Fore feedback implementation is also in the near future, and I plan to support FFB in both the yoke, as well as in haptics for 3rd party/diy peripherals, like 3D printed machine gun controls.

Development is going pretty great. I am hoping to put together a VR video of bombing procedures sometime in the near future. This will be similar to the bombing video that Loki put out pretty early in our group's history, but will showcase the newest state of our Lancaster. We continue to appreciate the members of the community and their interactions here and on the forum. Please continue to ask questions, post your airshow pictures and cool finds, and chat about our beloved bomber.

Cheers for posting here. I’m not on any Discord so would’ve missed it otherwise.

A big welcome to FuriousVoid then 🙂. Prepare to skin your fingertips working on the Lanc. More hands to the pump an all that. Glad to hear the tinkering’s going well, keep it up.

Will have to wait for the next video update to check on Brian and Lokis landing challenge, we’ll have to source a trophy 😁. Cheers for the update.

Will have to have a practice too, the stall speed is currently too fast so landing is a challenge but once it gets dialed in (next on the list) you should see some more landings

Ricockulously excited by each update, thanks for sharing.

I finally caught up with Masters of the Air (what a 'kin waste of all that time, money and effort), and afterwards stumbled across this, rather more intetesting, series. Now looking forward very much to the Lanc, and the chance to understand a little bit better what those stupidly brave young men went through.

All power to your elbows, godspeed!

Looking awesome.

One question, as I understand it, bomber command primarily attacked at night (at least by the time Lancasters were available in numbers).  Will the Lanc being built be viable for night time use?

I’ve been using the Oboe script on some of my missions, and that will help for shorter range missions.

For longer range work, does the plan include a vague representation of H2, or is the hope that we get illumination bombs for our Mossie?

7800x3d, 5080, 64GB, PCIE5 SSD - Oculus Pro - Moza (AB9), Virpil (Alpha, CM3, CM1 and CM2), WW (TOP and CP), TM (MFDs, Pendular Rudder), Tek Creations (F18 panel), Total Controls (Apache MFD), Jetseat

Have you tried Pathfinders? an ITV series about the Pathfinder Squadron of Lancasters during WW2

Can't find any other full episodes on U toob, I have the complete series of 12 episodes on DVD

A night bomber is no use if you cant use it at night! We have looked into the H2S system and the radar dome is modelled but we don't plan on having it on release, we want to get a Lancaster out at some point and the earlier varients of the Lancaster didn't include the H2S, generally the later war equipment will be coming after an initial release

Im not sure what I have and haven't posted in terms of screenshots so apologies if you have already seen this one

That is awesome. ED never release a complete module.  I am not sure a module from anyone ever been complete on release.
I am ready to fly this any hour of the day.

That is sort of the point of Early Access, to allow people to get their hands on it before it's done and help in development. YOu can love the Lancaster mod, as I do, but you don't need to take shots at us. You can wait till final release on our stuff as well. Thanks.

Things get lost in translation. Lusekofte is a fellow Norwegian and I'm positive he didn't intend it to come off that way. Pretty sure he meant that every developer, ED, 3rd parties, modders and what not add features in steps to encourage the Lancaster team to release it ASAP.
Cheers!

Join the Air Force!

There you will have serious flashbacks to DCS as any new Aircraft type that hits the Squadrons is never "fully up", and is in early access for many, many years.

It was not ment as shots. At all. It was stating a fact.

Gosh, has anything happened recently which might shorten fuses round here...?!

I agree, good call @Scoobyon and co - much better to have a decent flyable Lanc in the skies where she belongs than in perpetual 'two weeks, be sure' due to tertiary systems. I'm sure an awful lot of people will spend far more time in the start up proceedures (no pressure on your sound guy!) and in the circuit than they ever will over the target at 03.30, angels 25, on an overcast flak-lit night wishing they had access to more experimental blind bombing equipment to take up their mental capacity...!

Gotta give us monkies time to learn to fly the old girl first 🙂

@Tonker You are much better than me expressing yourself. Your point was exactly what I meant.
I go on hard chemotherapy and my only side effect is total lack off short term memory. And continued lack of ability to find words. In special in a foreign language. So I tend to write myself into trouble.

@LuseKofte

I read that Polish scientists discovered Ice Cream helped alleviate the effects of Chemo.

They used it on their patients to good effect.

They gained weight and felt better.

Less sick, able to keep food down better.,

Endorphins!

I hope your recovery goes well.

"Yeah, and though I work in the valley of Death, I will fear no Evil. For where there is one, there is always three. I preparest my aircraft to receive the Iron that will be delivered in the presence of my enemies. Thy ALCM and JDAM they comfort me. Power was given unto the aircrew to make peace upon the world by way of the sword. And when the call went out, Behold the "Sword of Stealth". And his name was Death. And Hell followed him. For the day of wrath has come and no mercy shall be given."

I had a similar thought, wrote a post then thought better of it. Basically I was thinking it's no wonder the usually patient might be a bit frayed and on the prickly side of defensive. Understandable I spose. Also, things can easily be taken the wrong way, like Max says in translation etc. Turns out LuseKofte cleared up what he meant anyhow.

I don't wanna drag the thread (one of my happy places 😁) too into the dark but wanna wish you LuseKofte all the best. I've had BEP myself, tumours chopped out too so I can empathise. Your short term memory should recover. Having said that, I can't remember what I was gonna type other than that now 🙃. Look on the bright side, the steroids they'll give ya once you're done with chemo will mean you can eat four meals a day and not mind a bit. I know you won't be tasting much while it flushes through ya though and I feel for ya so get well soon, wish ya all the best.

And now for some Lanc pics 🙂, some of the BBMF one I took at Duxford. I'm sure there'll be some more of the mod soon.

Sorry to hear that, wish you a trouble-free recovery. I'm truly looking forward to flying this bomber on DCS, already got the Flight Manual of the real thing, so I can make a training mission for it whenever it is released.
