As reported to Bignewy on the ED discord:

"anyone else having strange shadow stuff happen on Caucasus? first i turned the new "secondairy shadows" option on in the graphic settings. After seeing parts of the map beeing too dark with minimal clouds on it. (as if clouds shadows are beeing cast on the terrain, but there arent any). Turned the option off again but problem still persists. Bug?"

Had the same on the syria map. Was really "dark" at first even without clouds and when I switched camera to a location far away from me and switched back, it got bright again.

i have seen this myself. not just after this patch. except for noticing, it does not seem to disturb anything. it only happens once in the beginning of a mission in my case.

same problem here, the lightenig switches from bright to dark spontanously. Also with no clouds on flat terrain. i will not mention here how this feels in combat!

I have also the issue, I use no ground shadows, and using high shadows, might be a broken ground shadow since 2.7 broke most shadows

Watch on the screenshot how the issue looks like in close, this really destroy immersion tho... Please fix ASAP !

I'm sorry but why do you need a track for this? There have been 6 people reporting the same issue (see posts and pictures above), so it seems to be a very common problem and should be easily reproducable?

Edit: OP even attached a track

Edit2: This is not the same issue as in the linked thread above, which was only about ground object shadows. Except this post, which nobody responded to. Is this one with the large dark areas of shadow reported?

I'd like to try and reproduce this issue. Please attach a track along with your "Saved Games/DCS.../Config/options.lua" file.

Sorry for being late, I didn't saw your message, here is my options.lua and the track file of that flight

Yep, this got so bad that I resorted to using a shader mod to disable cloud shadows. Breaks IC but lets me keep shadows on without having huge areas of the map go dark, and/or flicker.

It can get REALLY excessive:

As this is a longstanding bug, having the official in-game option to disable cloud shadows while retaining all other shadows would be much appreciated.

I do have the track for this, but it was on the 21st of June and no longer replays since the streagle update. This first occured to me in VR with a totally different set of settings, and appeared in exactly the same way on the track replay in 2d with a completely different set of settings. So I don't think it's necessarily in-game settings dependant.

I thought at one point there was a chance that it was trying to project mountain shadows and bugging out, but since disabling cloud shadows via the shader mod I no longer have any issues.

Two separate terrain shadow issues are being addressed by devs. I'll check your track in ED internal build. I hope I'll be back with some good news.

Hi Flappie ! Have you this issue on your side too ?

Because all mates I fly with, including myself, have this issue for monthes.

If devs are finally working on it, it's a good news. Hopping it won't take too long to be addressed.

I've just tried many user tracks in current OB but I cannot replicate this giant shadow issue. Let's wait for these two shadow fixes which should come with the next OB update.

In case the next OB still shows the bug this thread is about, please provide a way to reproduce the bug, since tracks don't seem to work for me.

In a first test, it looks like the large shadow areas are gone. Thank you ED for fixing it! Looks much better now.

What still occured was some kind of rapid flickering between dark and light shadows under an area of clouds, which was also reported in one of the threads. I thought I could reproduce it in a small trackfile, but then I couldn't reproduce it.

@Loukuins @MoleUK @Lt. Scribbles Is it any better for you, now in OB?

Only flown a few hours, haven't seen any massive dark patches or any flickering on/off as of yet. I won't use the cloud shadow removal mod for a few days and will see how it goes.

Still had the issue on the previous OB, my PC is dead so I can't test the lastest OB that came out on Monday.

The bug ist still there. Expecially noticable on Caucasus in the Montains. If you look at some area that is brightened by the sun, it is as if somebody is constantly switching the light on and off. Very annoying and also makes the game more diifficult because the outlook of the terrain is contantly changing.
