Hi to all,

 

I purchased BS a year ago and have enjoyed it (though hardly MASTERED it) since.

 

But I always come back to fast movers. Mainly Falcon, currently OF 4.7 but soon perhaps a replacement in the wings.

 

Eagerly awaiting the A-10, HARDCORE all the way, baby!

Well I did write a LOMAC review years back in which I said that it did not do a good job of recreating the workload of a combat pilot. (It had other good qualities but recreating helmet fire was not one of them.)

 

Some detractors just disregarded that as "switchology for switchology's sake".

 

But, really, if you do not have to learn to play the picaolo in combat, what exactly is being "simulated"?

 

I have high hopes for A-10 based upon its hardcore BS lineage.

In the A-10C, the HOTAS will handle probably 90% of your cockpit workload and even though it is a little overwhelming at first, it soon becomes quite natural. And therein, I believe, lies the argument. After a few hours in a fully simulated pit with fully simulated functionality, you end up with only a marginally higher workload than you do in the lighter LOMAC-type simulator. It's inevitable, because the pilot eventually learns to control the pit with ease - especially a HOTAS-equipped western pit. The only difference is in how many hours it takes you to learn it. Another aspect to consider and what ED had attempted to focus on in LO was the physics modeling of the things you activate by pushing buttons - be that the flight modeling of aircraft and munitions or the sensor modeling of missiles and radar. Granted they may not have succeeded on all fronts and a lot remains to be modeled, in particular various modes and sub-modes, but some of the stuff in there now is already more complex than probably any other combat flight sim.

 

Regardless, DCS: A-10C Warthog will not only continue the full hardcore lineage of Black Shark, but push it quite further on.

The beta testers are working hard on getting Flaming Cliffs 2.0 to final code.

Internally we are testing an early version of A-10C. For those of you have actually flown in real life a fixed wing aircraft, you will not be disappointed. Fly DCS:A-10C and you will be able to fly the real thing. But the learning curve will be steep. In real life it takes 3 months to convert from A-10A to A-10C and operate correctly all the systems - avionics, weapons etc.

However, there will be an arcade mode for the console generation!

Speak for yourself, I own an Xbox and a PSP. Don't really use the latter but the former is awesome for parties - few things are more fun to do with a few friends than killing zombies with a BAR. ;)

 

And that sounds awesome JimMack. After that I'll just need someone to let me sneak into a US air base so I can get my own. (Hm. And probably someone else to help make the ANG not come after me... And a couple places where I can safely refuel on the route home... But at least one of the needed things will be struck from the list. :D )

Likewise dude. I'm just sitting here happy in the knowledge that it'll be worth the wait. Although the sooner the better, it's become clear to me recently that my love affair with falcon has come to an end after nearly 11 happy years so I really have no idea what to do with my free time anymore.
