"Dust Smoke Enable" not working

Hi, I used to have a mission in Persian Gulf with a nice heavy sandstorm (wind and dust smoke), however i re-opened this mission yesterday and it was just a windy day, no dust visible.

I tried with different settings and creating different missions but still, no sand dust visible. Hope to see a fix soon, it was very nice.

Hi. A lot of effects are not compatible with the multithreaded version of DCS yet. Dust smoke is among them.

In the meantime, dust smoke awaits you in DCS ST.

I just notice that dust storm not working actually and I came accros this topic.
So basically, there is no more mono threading, therefore no more dust storm?

Another question : In 2023 & Beyond, ED talk about the developping of new fog & dust storm :

"New fog and dust storms are being developed that are integral parts of the volumetric cloud system. The old DCS fog is a separate system that is calculated for a flat earth. It does not consider shadows from the terrain and clouds, so it has limitations. The new fog will be computed for a spherical earth and takes shadows into account"

Any news ?

They talked about clouds interfering with sensors before they talked about dust and fog... Get in a line 😉

But seriously I think I saw it in one of recent publications, a video or screenshot, I will try to find it.

So... It is coming with DCS Earth project and NOT for current terrains?

If it is going to be computed for epherical earth will it be cm backwards compatible with flat maps we have now?

I think the new effect is shown in DCS: AH-64D Radar Map Mode video, the first half a minute of the clip.

This problem is solved by Flappie June 24th 2023 - Hi. A lot of effects are not compatible with the multithreaded version of DCS yet. Dust smoke is among them.

- What is DCS ST ?

It is no longer available. Latest update removed Single Threaded version of DCS, now it it only MT version.

This is not a solution, Single Threaded DCS does not exist anymore.

Dust and smoke is WIP in DCS and part of the volumetric clouds code but also mentioned it is going to be written to be computed for epherical earth.

@BIGNEWY any chance you could asked the team of the new volumetric clouds, dust and fog are coming to flat maps or will it be part of spherical earth project only please ?

@BIGNEWY

sry to bother, but with the patch just released, could you tell us how to "enable" the new "Dust Storm" (except from enabling it in ME)!?

Say what are the requirements that it will show., like pressure, humidity, clouds, temp !?

I am currently testing on Nevada. Tried different weather settings, but never saw something that resembles a "dust storm" with vis 984-1600sth... 🤷‍♂️

Thy in advance!

How else do you want it to enable besides the tickbox?

Just tick the tickbox enabling the "Duststorm" and that's it.

The problem with Nevada is that the map is too high while the duststorm starts at sealevel. So if you want to see it on that map, you need to go to the lowest points of the map.

my question - as i thought would already be detailed by asking about requirements - was aiming at which particular settings have to be applied to the weather to make the Dust Storm(s) (?) appear.

If there are none, and it will be vis at sealevel, im thank you for that hint and i will try to take a look. But meanwhile it would be nice if you could substantiate your claim with something like a screenshot maybe!? thy

There is no special requirement other than checking the tickbox, that's all you have to do.
