I'm trying to get a Viggen Trail but it says "To participate in Free Trials please enable two-factor authentication in your profile."  but I go to my profile and it is set to yes!. It's so frustrating.

Same problem here. Trying to trial MI-24 before purchasing with the Halloween sale, it says I must enable 2FA even though I already have enabled it. Have tried logging in and out and even using a different browser.

For the rest of you complaining about 2FA, I'm an IT professional and I'm cringing so hard. You really have no idea what you're talking about, it's insane to think DCS accounts can be worth hundreds of dollars and be password protected only with not even great password requirements. 2FA is exactly what you'd expect and it has 0 privacy implications. To the one guy suggesting SMS as a less invasive alternative, my god this is why IT people get depressed, I threw up inside.

Edit: Temporary fix for those of you with the same bug, go to the product page, press F12 in chrome, go to console and paste this, press enter, then you can press the trial button.

t.OTP_ACTIVATED = true

This will not "hack" the 2FA system, as the next step is to actually provide a 2FA code which I image will fail if you haven't set it up, but it fixes the bug if you run into it

Do I need an app on a phone ? for trials.

there are other ways to do it as discussed in this thread, offline ways.

But for example google authenticator is the easiest way on a phone.

WinAuth works off your PC and is pretty painless. Even I figured it out. 😁

And there was NO other Option except Google?!? Nice... All my Data in here are legit. But Google gets NOTHING personal from me!😡

the QR code and manual code are compatible with every program.

It's using the standard TOTP algorithm (RFC 6238). Compatible with any 2FA program that supports RFC 6238, which means almost every 2FA program does.

Google also use RFC 6238 by default, but you can choose not to use it.

Free to Play Program
I'M DONE WITH DCS!
I wanted to "borrow" a Bf.109K-4, but they require "To participate in Free Trials please enable two-factor authentication in your profile." I don't want to bog down my phone with another Authenticator
And I'm not buying anything else for DCS!

Another one? So you already have an authenticator? Have you at least tried setting up 2FA with the app you already have?

Sorry to hear that.

But as discussed in this thread you do not need to use google, you can use off line authentication also

2FA is required for our free trials, we understand for some it is an inconvenience however due to abuse of our system by some people we have had to add the verification process.

thank you

It makes me sad when people that are here since the days long before free trials were offered, turn their back on DCS just because free trials now need 2FA.

Couldn't those just pretend free trials aren't there and continue to enjoy DCS like they did before?

I find this requirement for 2FA for tirlas really disappointing, the Google Authenthicator comes with a ton of issues. From privacy issues, security concerns, to potentially getting locked out of an account (eg if the smartphone breaks).

Using GA will actually reduce my general level of security, not enhance it. In the meanwhile, I never ever had a problem with an account (connected to paid content) getting stolen, in my entire life.

This also follow a path of ED that just seems disrespectful for its customers and supporters. The lockout of steam/standalone being used at the same time, and now the forced 2FA is creating an ever less pleasant user experience with more restrictions and garbage forced onto me.

@BIGNEWY I hope ED is getting some feedback about how their treatment of costumers has been getting more obnoxious. Im willing to deal with the aggressive DRM and high pricing, because they make amazing stuff. But limiting access to this is getting more problematic.

You can also use a different authenticator than Google Authenticator.

Also, the reason why it was implemented was not because users had their data stolen. People were abusing the trial system, so ED implemented the 2FA requirement for trials.

Thank you for the feedback and sorry to hear you are having a bad experience.

Sadly 2FA is a required security step for the free trials due to some users abusing the system. It was disappointing for us to have to take this step but we also have to protect our business while still continuing to offer a way for people to try our products for free before they consider a purchase.

The free trials are very popular and we have continued to see the use of them rise even with 2FA as a requirement. I hope you can also see the reason for it from our perspective, as it was not done out of disrespect as you say, but out of wanting to continue to allow users to try out DCS and its great modules, the alternative would have been to stop providing free trials.

best regards

Me neither, but that is irrelevant. Anecdotal evidence is no evidence at all. I also never won the lottery or got struck by lightning - and likely never will. Still people win the lottery and get struck by lightning frequently (on a larger scale).

How did they abuse it? Created multiple accounts?
