Would be a nice addition if the Engine could do the City complexity justice and it lined up with the expanded Syria map so that there was a seemless transition once we move to the world engine.

I would strongly suggest the creation of former Yugoslavian area or Kosovo conflict map. All the hardware and modules are perfectly aligned with this era. Perhaps there is similar suggestion or plan for this area? I think many of us are tired with rather flat and sandy areas of nevada, iran, syria... Something like Caucasian 2.0 but with higher ground mesh resolution would be perfect.

Of course I'd also love such a map - isn't some part of Eagle Dynamics located in the canton of Fribourg, Switzerland? People unhappy with with DCS could then proceed to drop a couple of MK 84's on their offices 🙂

They do have a legal entity there, that's what's on the website under "legal info":

Eagle Dynamics SA
Route de la Glâne 107
Villars-sur-Glâne, 1752
Switzerland

Seems to be just an office in some office complex, so watch out for civilian casualties.😅 Devs are located in Russia and Belarus AFAIK.

In the end though, between the lack of historical conflict (mountains are natural barriers, there usually isn't any huge conflict in a mountain range), the huge population centers and the size of this map, I don't think it would ever get made. I'd love to fly through Switzerland in DCS, but for now it has to be in some other civilian sim.

Some of thee Wishlist topics have so much aggression. Personally Id rather see ED finish the world engine or even integrate with the other sims world engine than continue to develop ad hoc terrain modules.

There it is again, I have seen the interviews where it is mentioned but what exactly is the "World" map.

I know new tech is being introduced on the Marianas, Falklands and possibly the update of Syria with Cyprus. But this reference to a world map here and there has me speculating.

Is it a low fidelity model of the planet as a whole with satellite imagery, no buildings/ roads? What do people know?

I think we are going to see some big updates as well pretty soon.

I just know they've referenced a world engine a number of times, Id prefer to see an engine that was low detail unless there was a purchased plugin for the relevant era.  Would be nice to fly from Syria to Batumi or Shiraz, even if it was a low detail mesh between regions until someone goes there.  Would be even nicer if we could add objects along the way in the community folder  per the other flightsim. Personally I'd also prefer if every topic didnt end up full of complaints about what ED havent done.

I made Kosovo on a Caucasus map 🙂

Even distances for F117 to fly from Italy was pretty much same as irl.

Would be nice to have all seasons Balkan Peninsula Terrain for DCS, but the other proposition - The Baltic Sea is interesting too. I would rather vote for Baltic Sea.

I am glad I found this, as was thinking that the Baltic would be an excellent space to make maximum use of the existing DCS protfolio of aircraft.  My thought was to have it bounded on the west by Copenhagen, north by Stockholm, east by St Petersberg, and south by Berlin.

This whole area has a lot of potential, for all the reasons stated in both threads however:

...it would require a significant leap in terms of programming and hardware.  At that point, we may be able to map the entire world....

I did it for Falcon BMS 4.33. That area is very important and the Falcon drivers loved that terrain! That is one of the most important area of Europe.

Please keep in mind: the falcon engine was very old and outdated.

I agree with you. A more expanded Balkans/Adriatic Sea/Italy theater is in the wishlist here:

There is too much talk about maps like Korea (don't we have enough of it a little bit after two decades of Falcon 4.0 (now BMS)?) and other possible maps which I can't connect to any well known wars in the past. People come up with lot's of strange stuff..... but anyway: A NATO vs. Soviet Union in Europe (West Germany/DDR/Poland) could be a fine thing. The 70s/80s are ignored too much. Especially old school guys should be drawn towards that era...

Just to add a little more, here is a pretty fantastic resource for Cold War airbases on the map.

It also includes things like NAVAIDs etc.

That is really cool, I had no idea there were so many. Heres a cool little resource that shows some maps with SAM placement in East Germany as well.
