I was wrong about having to have the M30 cargo carrier. You can use Eightball's M35, but you defiantly have to have M978 HEMTT refueler or it won't work.

So, I hid the M978 HEMTT in the large radio hooch. It's cool cuz you can listen to music while rearming and refueling haha (Nice touch with the music guys!)

I recently downloaded this mod and flew for two days. It is a wornderful , fabulous mod. I flew K50 normally for helicopters. But I found fly this litt bird is more fun, you can use it as an sightsee vehicle, fly over the map resorts. Or you can fly it as a weapon, blow up the unarmed vehicles.

This is really a very good mod, hope the radio system can be updated soon, where I can get the VOR or ADF direction.

Happy that you enjoy the oh-6. The radio system is in a state which can't be improved without SDK. The radios work and you can dial in ADFs which comes with the mission.

@tobiThanks a lot. The MOD is really fantastic. I think it is the Best free helicopter MOD. I just tried the ADF, it works well.

@BIGNEWY @NineLine, Is there any chance you could have a word with the team about the SDK situation please?

I’m quite obviously not a Modder, just a DCS ‘pilot’ who’s grateful for those that are and for what they can bring us all. Stuff like this incredible chopper. I’ve seen a few things where Modders hands are tied in a lot of ways with what they can do. Here, it’s radios and a couple of other things. The Lancaster team could do with some help, ViolentNomad too. I’m sure there are others.

Is there something that could be done that would allow Modders access to the SDK, to the tools they would need to build their mods as well as everyone would like? Maybe in a limited way? I don’t really understand what it would entail, just feel it a shame to see some great work being hampered. There must be something you can work out somehow for these creators? Pretty please, have a look at it?

thanks 🙂

Anyone here knows servers that use this bird? specially if they run missions ( like CSAR for the other choppers)

look for "dirty birds" and "into the jungle" servers

Careful now, or we'll have an essay full of "has" from a user that will explain it in detail.

I assume ED is very strict about it for several reasons. One is to protect their IP of course, and much for the same reasons, I assume us users don't have access to the TDK. It is what it is, while I'm not a dev, several mods have working radios, TACAN, ADF etc. I don't really know what's missing in this one. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Tricky cos it moves us into a broader issue...

... at this point, for all sorts of reasons, I'd be looking to shift the business model where DCS World is valued ($10ish annually?), that money spent funding ED for core development, and the SDK kit released to give modders the tools they need to keep the base game attractive to simmers. It wouldn't do any harm to keep commercial developer's sharp either...

Il-2:1946 is still selling copies entirely on the back of an exceptional modding effort lasting decades - it's astonishing what that community achieved even without significant official support. If ED were able to charge for DCS World, they could do the same, rather than rushing yet another half-baked waste of hangar space out of the door to try to maintain a revenue stream...

If they want to access the SDK they need to apply for a 3rd Party status, we cannot give away the SDK, sorry.

IL-2: 1946 is really not a reasonable example, 1) As far as I know, the team behind 1946 is not supporting and making new content for this game, it's basically an abandoned game that people are supporting on their own, such as Falcon 4. 2) We are not just talking DCS, but we have other professional usages of our SDK and IP that need to be protected.

Righty! Well, as long as it works for me, and I'm obviously naïve to what's missing. I'm fine.

Are you sure you don't confuse it with CloD? 🤔

Thanks for the response 🙂 Yup, fair enough all round and I appreciate an off-the-cuff comment being taken seriously. Quite right that IL-2:1946 has long been effectively abandoned, and I completely understand that DCS is only part of a much wider portfolio. I'm just a layman looking at the lie of the land and thinking he spies gold in them thar hills! Especially in a world with increased competition from Pacific WW2 and Korean combat sims, more hotly contested online arenas and the technological leaps of MSFS (even if their flight dynamics are still rubbish in comparison!).

I think we're actually looking at the best example: ED get nothing for what is currently the best public rotary-wing aircraft simulation available. It's kinda awesome, but it's also kind of nuts! It makes more sense to me to monetise DCS World and encourage the community than vice versa. There's a strong historic track record of communities keeping games they love alive; FTP business models not so much...

Anyway, if there's even a discussion to be had then it's not by me, and it's not here. Good to see you @NineLine 🍻

Also!

But yup, I've just checked back in for the first time in years and see activity in almost every sub-forum in the past 24hrs: https://www.sas1946.com/main/index.php

(...and the last major modpack update was just 4 months ago. I dread to think what size those modpack downloads are nowadays!)

I hope so to, I am not a big user of mods but this one I really enjoy kicking around DCS in.

I got a question Does the ADF work? I'm probably setting it up wrong. I have searched this thread and it's kinda vague. In the manual it says the ADF panel doesn't function which makes sense cuz when I try to use that my compass needle goes right to 90 degrees and when you shut off ADF it stays there like in the screen shot Also not sure if I have the intercom set up right to use the ADF

So, if the ADF panel (right next to fuel gauge) doesn't work how would you go about setting up ADF? In this thread I saw a few people said it does work. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for your help

The OH-6A is equipped with a ADF System. The device is at the mainpanel close to the fuel indicator.

  • Switch the power knob (Off/ADF/ANT/LOOP) to ADF.
  • Tune in the AM frequency (Display is in kHz). There are 3 bands (0.19-0.40, 0.40-0.84, 0.84-1.7 MHz),
  • The indicator above the Tune Knob show the signal level.

Since this is done without SDK one will not hear signals. Only beacons which are placed in ME are available.

So, you can't create your own beacon only the ones in the maps that you created will work?

Also, why when I turn ADF to off why does my compass needle still at 90-degree position (like in the picture)?

This is like the last thing I need to iron out. Mod is epic!!! Too bad dcs won't let you work out the radios cuz this would be the perfect module
