There are not an insignificant amount of folks hyped for whatever is secretly planned for cloud towers and new weather.

Hypehypehype.

@BIGNEWY any small, tiny, wafer-thin snips or bits you could ever-so-daintily drop?

I'm assuming these are planned for Q4, if I'm guessing timing right?

@BIGNEWY  Did we ever tell you just how talented and awesome you are?  Like, when the community needs an update, there you are - givin' an update on the people's game. A true hero. 🙂

(how's the flattery goin', they said this would work?)

@BIGNEWY Can you just blink twice if towering clouds are still planned for this year?  I know they won't let ya say anything - but, just, like, blink twice if we're gonna cumulo some nimbus up in here.

Update for anyone following this thread -

BIgnewy states they're currently working on fog and dusting effects, however the team has not had time to do any work on towering cloud structures, and currently there is not development time in the cycle dedicated for it - when time frees up for that task, they'll take a look - but no stated expectation of when that would be.

Same story as it has been for 3 years since 2.7 release.

aka "nothing new to report"

Those clouds were released, actually. They're the ones we currently have. The discussion in this thread is around improving that volumetric system to include 'towers' and other formations outside of spatter-pattern volumetrics like we currently have.

So yes - new things.  Independent cloud formations were never a part of the original volumetric work referenced here, now released in game. Those independent formations are what we're now discussing, based on the 2024 & Beyond newsletter comment, "towering clouds and fog" work.

From what we can tell - fog is being worked on in the background, and the towering clouds have been removed from the 2024 work list, to be picked up perhaps another year when the team has time dedicated for it.

For now - this is fairly moot, thread wise, as BigNewy has confirmed no further work will be done on cloud formations for the foreseeable future.

I suspect that’s an overly optimist view.

I hope you're right

I just saw this mod and it looks great. Is it easy to install or do I need to edit LUA files which I’m not a fan of doing at all. Hopefully it’s an easy install process!

No edits necessary. You just unzip 3 folders to DCS root folder, or, preferrably, "inject" them using any mod manager of your choice.

Keep in mind expected weather changes in upcoming patch will render the mod incompatible (until bandit648 updates it), but until that happens, you can still use the current version. More details here:
