Textures, especially the normal maps are only at 30% where they should be in 2024. The whole 3D model looks more like something that would be used as an AI object in a game.
The Apache is simply state-of-the-art. It demonstrates up-to-date texturing artist craftmanship.

Your comparing a 150 to 170 man "top of there game" team to a 3 man team.

People are spending more time going around the outside with a magnifier instead of flying the damn thing..... 🙄

In one thread complaining on the hardware demands of something like the Apache, in the other hating on Polychop for going light in texture resolution.

There is no winning in this game.

I think from any reasonable angle and distance the KW looks perfectly fine. I'd rather have PC polish some gameplay elements or stuff insight the cockpit where I will spend most of my time! In the meantime I just enjoy flying it!

Absolutely the Kiowa is one of the finest 3rd party releases in dcs history.

I was wondering, (won’t get a chance to play DCS till the weekend so can’t really test this myself yet)  is it possible that the mms is actually “on” at all times whether or not it’s actually being displayed? I ask because in my very brief frame time tests last night I didn’t notice the normal rise in frame times that I see in other modules once a flir pod/sight is displayed on an mfd.

That coupled with, what to me at least, seem like some surprisingly high gpu/cpu frame times for the Kiowa (especially cpu) makes me wonder if that is the culprit?

IMHO: Bloody hell (mea culpa- excuse me), what a lovely bird to fly!😃Just got in first time, starting hot, and up you go. Never had that experience before, to feel at home without any training before on that thing. Just GREAT - only that sound.... 🥺

And, sorry folks, didn't count the rivets and bolts - just flew.

Thanks Polychop👍👍👍

thanks a lot for this, great work. you don't need a "magnifying glass" or to "rivet count" (like a lot of dramatic people on here have been saying) to see how extremely outdated this is for an extremely expensive, full release product in the year 2024. it looks like an AI model, so much so that I wonder if there's something wrong with the release. hopefully PC can chime in on this at some point and let the customers know if this is supposed to be this way or not

There are several reasons I left game dev for aviation. 😁 The customers were one of them.

Reformers hate him! This one weird trick found by a bush pilot will make gunfighter obsessed old farts angry at your multi-role carrier deck line up!

Problem is, that the perceived volume of supporters and naggers doesn't reflect their real share. The latter are just more vocal....

I'm having a nightmare working out what and where to bind things. I keep changing bits around.

If anyone's using a Warthog and has any ideas I wouldn't mind hearing em 🙂. I'm going through the trainers, binding stuff to use but I dunno, it's not ideal.

The Polychop Kiowa manual has bindings suggested specifically for the Warthog. (Somewhere around Pg 26, IIRC)

Has anyone managed to find this button number 19 to map within the DCS? I looked and couldn't find it.

I presume this to be the 'Frame Freeze/Target Select / HOG ON/OFF' button.

The thing is that they all have the same name when mapping, but the only one that doesn't is this one. So instead of that one I put what you said, but it opens a menu in the MMS.

It does, but it's also used to to jump through targets when there are multiple boxed in the Acquire on the Move (ACQ OM) mode.

Me too. I lost one function. When you switch to manual slave. What is the assignment called to lock the target?  I am going to fly this module until I am satisfied and got muzzle memory. Thank you Polyshop. You probably made my favorite.

Point track will lock onto something or Area track to lock a spot around/ between  targets.

Does anyone know if the ACK button can be mapped I cant find any ref to it in the controls mapping

It can. I use the search bar and look for 'acknowledge'. Should have the 'ack' and 'recall' binds tied to it.

The Polychop Kiowa manual

:punch: That’s me jabbing my nose. Rule number one, read the manual. I rarely do and don’t I know it now 😄.

Got so caught up in ‘training’ I didn’t think about it. Cheers for the nod 🙂.

Thoroughly enjoying it though. Speciality at the minute is letting the Co-Pilot hover, take back control without checking collective, drop like a stone, panic, frighten the spine and say hello to the airbags.

Probably my favorite chopper now. But being patient and smart is not my strongest side.
In some ways it ruins other choppers. In the start I felt it flew like on rails, but now I feel like it flys like it should, of course I have no idea. I am not a pilot.
But it just feel very well constructed, they spent a lot of time making this right.
I can sit for hours just taxiing between buildings. It truly came as a surprise to me, I really believed it would be one more dust covered module in my hangar

Yesterday I flew the Apache again a bit after many hours flying the Kiowa (this little chopper is addictive!). I hate flying the Apache now. The way it reacts to control inputs makes little sense after flying something as predictable as the Kiowa.
