Yes, you are too far away. It's working as intended.

And while you can go to manual mode and hit targets ~8.5km away, it's not recommended.

I think you get launch permission around 6.8-7.2km or something. Look for the "C" in the HUD and Skhval

Is it natural, that Shkval doesn't lock onto a tank from 9-10km? Just happenned on multiplayer session. Sensor status ТГ. Like it didn't "see" the tank, but it was in open field at range of 9km. I couldn't lock onto any of the few tanks. (?!). Of course laser armed.

Locking targets has nothing to do with Laser on or off (of course, weapons employment will lack a certain degree of accuracy without lasing :music_whistling:). I still don't have 1.2.0, but in 1.1.1.1 it should be quite possible to lock targets 9 to 10 km away and even engage with Vikhrs in manual firing mode if there's no heavy crosswind. The only thing that comes to my mind: Could the tanks have been destroyed? The simulated Shkval will only lock on valid targets, and destroyed units don't count as valid targets (unlike in reality, where the Shkval/targeting system couldn't make that distinction).

Damn, I should really install 1.2.0 so I can check these things. :-)

Thanks for your reply.

I've been experimenting with Vikhr range; at 300m AGL I could hit targets 10km away, with missile speed of 450-500km/h... but I know, it's not the way they are meant to be fired :) Next time I'll try to lock target at 8km, and wait for launch permission while slowly getting closer.

PS Upload more BS2 videos on your YT channel :D

//@up yes, It was possible in 1.1.1.1... probably it now works correctly.

So I decided to fly the "Alarm" mission without using the auto start and took a couple of minor GRAD hits whilst taking off. That killed my shkval and gun drive, but for that mission, that's not the end of the world.

Later, however, my main hydro failed, which knocked out my AP channels. Also, when it came to landing, I couldn't extend my gear. I flicked the emergency hydraulics switch next to the gear handle and tried again, but to no avail.

Did I miss something, or was landing very carefully on the shark's belly all I could actually do in the circumstances.

I had a bit of a look in the manual, but found nothing.

Front wheel help

Hello all,

I have just bought and uploaded Black Shark 1.0.0 and looking forward to getting stuck in. I am totally new to the sim and only clocked up 9 minutes flying time at the minute and that was spent chasing it around.

I have started the tutorials but when I take control the front wheel seems to have a mind of it's own and does a 90 degree turn to the left and then I start moving round in circles. Rudder input corrects it but then I let go of the rudder the wheel does the same. I lift the nose to centre the wheel and back on the ground it just happens again. Even trying to apply the brake doesn't stop me from go round in circles.

I'm using a thrustmaster joystick and caliberated it no end and everything saying it's centred, any help would be much appreciated.

Many thanks,

Ashley

This is because the front wheel is non-steerable, so what spins you around in circles is the torque difference between the main rotors. Try to apply some right rudder to counteract this and youre fine. If its bothering you a lot or if its too difficult for you to take off with it, hold the trim button before you apply rudder and when you found the right amount of it let loose of it.

JS config.

I'm new to this as well about 2 weeks maybe, I have a Hotas X and naturally almost nothing works on it, the basics. I found a bindings program here in the forum for this particular js. but I don't have a clue as to how to install it. Would any one be able to help with a step by step for dummies tutorial? I'm hoping that once installed everything will work. I'm discovering that some of the key bindings don't work even though they're listed in the bindings menu. The DMS, and TMS, for one. I had to change the key binds for the throttle for the start sequence. RALT+HOME just wouldn't work, the same for the right engine. I can't change anything when it come to managing the MFCD for say targeting, not that I know how right now, but I would think those functions would be helpful. Thanks for reading.

You should start with troubleshooting the issue then. Please start a new topic here if one covering similar problems doesn't exist already

After resolving the problem you should find out whether it's worth to use the Thrustmaster mapping software. Bug some Hotas X user here (see below) on the forums or, again, start a new topic in the Input and Output section. If you decide TM software should be your choice, they most probably have some sort of manual for it. If you decide you will do any mappings in-game the DCS GUI Manual will guide you.

Sorry I couldn't help you directly.

I just started learning the BS after a year and a half of flying the A-10. Here's my startup, did I miss anything? Also After startup in the overhead panel I see caution lights for the fuel pumps. Should these get turned off after start up???

Judging by what you did with the engine cut-off valves in the beginning I can tell you don't follow any particular recommended procedure, so it will be hard to tell what you missed :)

I wouldn't expect much input from others then :) I've never learned the startup procedure myself. Are you aware of all of the below:

- extended user manual

- user-made illustrated procedures

- Leading Edge training video (hour long!)

- my cockpit layout figures for startup (not finished)

The landing gear uses the common hydraulics normally. Changing to the emergency hydraulics makes it use the main hydraulics. I think I read somewhere, depending on what kind of hydraulics failure, you have about 30 seconds to extend the landing gear if you're lucky.

In DCS BlackShark 2, is everything modeled or are there things left out?

Example, is ground power from ground crew functional etc...

Is there a specific list of systems not modeled?

I'm not aware of such a list. Good news first: We finally got a working temperature gauge in 1.2.1! :)

Ground power does work (has worked ever since BS1).

Some of the things that are not modeled:

  • IFF
  • INU drift
  • Lots of stuff on the Rear Auxiliary Panel
