TeteT, I had a similar problem and it turned out that you need to keep the target lined up with the circle in the HUD window and KEEP THE FIRE BUTTON depressed until the missile launches.

While I don't know all the gory details, it's clear that the launch/guidance system has a lot of work to do and isn't always ready to fire just because you've got the target on visual. You may have to wait up to 2 seconds for the systems to work their magic. This can be frustrating if the KA drifts off target but I found that was due mainly to my weak hovering/flying skills.

I found I gained major improvement fast by repeating landing on frigates. THere's a mission called ShipPractice on the missions part of this site that'll provide a perfect training ground for that practice if you want to try.

After I could land without really thinking about it, (I was sure it was impossible!) my hover/fly stability shot right up to a point where I can target/launch and fire without too much grief.

Welcome to the world's best sim.

Hi - could you please tell me how to access the missions part of the site? I'm registered on the DCS site, but when I click on Missions under User Files, I get taken straight back to the home page.

thanks

Hello everyone. My name's Ivan, callsign I use is Crash, Im 18 years old. I've been playing flight sims for 3 years now, Il-2 Sturmovik and LOMAC, second one for 6-7 months. I recently bought DCS Black Shark. Started watching the tutorial movies and Im printing the manual these days. I have some question and I hope there's someone to answer them.

What are the most important buttons that i should bind to my joystick ( Saitek Cyborg Evo) ?

And is there any advice that you can give a rookie like me, except being patient , reading the manual , watching the tutorials and having fun of course :) ?

Hey, great sim. It is however bloody difficult. I'm sure that just makes the challenge/reward better!

I've managed to fly, land, target and shoot range targets so far but the one thing I'm having trouble with is the radio equipment. I can never seem to get the comms menu up with the \ key. I must have the wrong switches set or something.

Is there a thread dedicated to the workings or the radio? I really want to start marking targets via D/L and communicating with the other choppers (actually, just getting permission to land would be a good start!).

Great forum too btw, you senior members and developers must never get time to actually fly you all seem to be helping beginners like me! :joystick:

had my first flight. it wasn't too difficult. tossed it around, landed and took off no problems. tried to loop it with the weapons still on and gear out.. guess what - it didn't work :D the seat did :)

now all i need to do is figure out that GUI

Vikhr help

Hi, I'm brand new to flight sims, but I have always been interested in weapons and fighting vehicles/aircraft so I have at least an understanding here. I always enjoyed the helicopters in the "arcade" type games so I thought I would try a sim, and this one is great. I have learned to fly/hover/land pretty decently now, my trouble is with the weapon system, here it is:

I am following this: http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/2626185/STICKY_Tutorial_How_to_take_of.html#Post2626185

I am finding the guide to be a lot of help, however I have 2 problems:

1) I cant get the vikhr missle or rockets to fire. I can fire the cannon but not the other weapon systems. For the checklist: Yes, I hit the master arm switch, as I can fire the cannon. I select the outer hardpoints with "Y" which are my Vikhr missles. I uncage the shkval, and engage the helmet mounted sights. I slave the Shkval to my helmet mounted sights, and look for a tank, find one, and lock it up, I see the "TA" but I never get TA-NA. Yes, the helicopter noise is pointed toward them, and the missle lock circle and dot are inside the rectangle target box, right at the tank. I pull and HOLD the trigger, nothing. I try Alt-space, nothing. I only get the "C" authoization with cannons.

I really cant figure this one out.

2: Less of a problem, just irritating. When I slave the shkval to the helmet sight, is there a way to get slow, smooth movement? I have put my mouse on slowest with its built in sensativity button, but its still hard to lock up a far away target, moving it a hair movies the target a few meters, so locking up a tank far away is hard, I have to really concentrate to just move my hand a hair to lock on. Using the keyboard/hat switch isnt precise enough, can I lower the sensativity somehow in game?

Are you depressing RAlt - Space? Not apparent from your post whether you are referring to RAlt or LAlt.

Sounds like you forgot to turn on the laser rangefinder. Does the shkval display any range information when you have the target locked up?

The HMS certainly isn't the way to go to lock a target up, just to get the shkval close. Practice a little with the hat and be sure to have the shkval on the 23x zoom setting when trying to lock up distant targets.

Good, fast, cheap. Choose any two.

map the RAlt-space to your joystick button.

Great thread, I wont feel to bad asking stupid questions here like the next one,

I am preapring to adventure myself into night flying in BS, I have so far been able to finally fly kind of good in day time and perform not very good ATG missions but I am still learning.

What are the basic procedures during night time

What lights should I have on?

NVG , ?

taking off?

ATG attack ?

the NVG and Helmet mounted site are activated using the same key "H" , as only one of them can be mounted on your helmet at a time.

If the mission starts in daylight hours, then you will automatically be given the HMS...if it is dark, you will automatically be given the NVG.

You can, however, request one or the other from the maintainence crew if you know, for eg, that you will be transitioning into dark. (dont forget to change the radio selecto dial to "ground crew" to request)

"Officially" if in darkness on the ground you should have the Beacon light to warn nearby you are rotors active, then of course the NAv lights and Wing tip and formation lights if fenced out.

As for in the cockpit, you can either use the cockpit light "K", or the dim/blue night light "ctrl-k" ...you can also turn on the backlighting for panels and instruments (internal lighting switches are all on the right wall panel lower back, except the cockpit light with is on the rear left shoulder wall)

If using the NVG, I suggest to use the internal Night lighting, turn off any other cockpit illumination, turn the brightness of the Abris and Shkval and HUD almost all the way.

The Shkval won't "lock" onto anything in darkness, however, you can sometimes make stuff out .. in that case you will need to ground stabilise the shkval, las target, and then select "manual" launch mode ..make sure you are within parameters..and you can still launch.

This has to be the most imersive sim I have ever played, having an absolute blast. The amount of information available on this forum is just amazing so thank you to all the contributors who have helped my transition into the complicated world of the KA50.

Left corner of the lower center console. It's a three-position switch (On-Off-Retract). It's behind the cyclic stick.

Thanks!
