It replaced the dcs updater tool for me, just love it. Used the updater tool to choose wether to start vr or 2d, now i dont need the extra app anymore. Also find it very convinient to be able to install/uninstall modules without starting the sim.

thank you ED:)

Disabled, do not see the value of it, does not solve any of high-pri problems.
From DCS 2.9.6.57650
New Launcher that allows you to configure and manage DCS prior to starting the program.
Who and where has asked for this? Don't recall it being discussed as a problem in the first place.
Oh, it's been asked for in several threads. I have high hopes for the development of this, if they bring in requested features.

I used different approach. If I wanted to start in 2D, just start the game. If I want in 3D, first start up the headset, and launch from the 3D environment. Then the game would run in 3D

Wasted resources they could be used to do other things, like update F16 functions, or similar. I think people don't need a "sub-launcher layer",  just get full functional modules or better VR perform... things like this.

Fly 2D only, so I have disabled it. They could have added something simple and useful like a menu with each module's manual linked, an option for day and night gamma settings, ability to save profiles for ME Mission Options.

Is there a way of making the launcher full screen so it fills the desktop? I've clicked the "x3" button on the launcher page to make it larger but it still doesn't fill my desktop and it won't let me click the "x4" button.

ED.  You need an option for the haze adjustment.  It is way to saturated.  There is a MOD that lowers it but is doesn't pass IP.  It is WAY overpowered especially in VR.

The launcher looks nice but it’s inconsistent with the rest of the game. The functions are all redundant and I can’t see a value in setting graphics outside the game and then duplicating the same thing within the game. Especially now that you can see there’s a bug already with that.
The launcher seems like a wasted effort. A poor decision since there are so many other things to work on.

I have no use for it and I have disabled it, BUT there were lots of people (esp. using VR) wanted this to be able to launch in 2D or 3D depending if they were mission editing or flying (and it's been discussed as needed for quite a while by those people).  I have no problem with ED creating this to help those people out since (esp. because I can disable it) it has no impact on me.

But if that was the reason to have a launcher, and it seems like a valid one, why not just have this be its sole function? And only if the player has VR otherwise enabled. Why all the other redundant functionality?

Quick question, does anyone know if the game is now started in multi-thread mode with this launcher by default, or do we still need to have that shortcut in place to do it?

It should, although I have seen a post or two from people where it wasn't.  Just start it up and in the in game splash screen it should say "multi-thread preview" (or something similar) before the version number in the bottom right of the screen and you'll know you're in MT.

Having just reinstalled the game, it launches in MT by default.

VR / Pancake switching is very useful.

Graphics options - many of them require a restart if you change them. This avoids that as well.

Sure but you could just limit the launched functionality to that.

But that doesn’t matter because you’d have to restart the game anyways. The idea of adjusting graphic settings without the game running makes no sense. Some launchers have very limited settings like the screen resolution or enabling VR etc. Perhaps so you don’t launch the game in some odd resolution your system can’t handle or whatever. But having all the setting in two places is redundant. And in this case is literally bugged.

Not if you know you want to change them before you start the game. This is true for VR where different graphics profiles are used depending on 2D or VR. I can now select the profile before I start the game thus avoiding loading the game, changing the options and then restarting.

I can’t think of any other game in recent memory which has its graphic settings outside the game. The only ones I can recall are quite ancient. Maybe all settings back then required a restart, who knows? I’m sure the vast majority of people adjust the graphics and settings within the game so they can evaluate them in real time.
Having every game setting is duplicated in the launcher redundant, confusing and buggy.

Here we go again.

SharpeXB assuming because he doesn't need it no-one else does.

What is so breath-taking is that you are so staunchley self-obsessed that even when presented with another persons alternative perspective your automatic response is to counter it, no apparent effort taken at all to adopt that perspective, even momentarily, to establish any legitmacy to their counter argument.

And god forbid you could actually acknowledge any reasonable concessions to the other persons position.

Cos after all, you're always right... 🙄

I change graphic settings outside the game multiple times a day to switch between my desktop monitor (edit/create missions) and my simpit TV (play the game).  I've automated this with a simple script.  Once the kinks have been worked out of the new launcher, I'll start using that feature there.

Just saying I hardly see this done in any other game I can recall.

I did just say I think having some settings like resolution or VR makes sense. I see this in many other games.  Having all the settings duplicated doesn’t. And again it literally introduced a bug here.

Launcher BUG - Installed/Available Modules

After installing a new module (DCS2024 plane were added on) new plane notification is highlighted.

After the new planes are added and installed, the notification sticks and does not dissapear - the selection remains empty.

I have to click on the install-module section in game anyway.

Launcher is pointless, will disable.

IMO should be able to force it to launch in the command line additions. Why expend resources with wavy grass and the launcher?
