...Yeah, the silliness is often off the charts sometimes here for new incoming things (I'm tired, boss™). I can't imagine the work involved on pushing out so many models as a hobby for a videogame as Currenthill did. For folks who just won't get their hands dirty on making a single dent of contribution to DCS to say it was a 'school boy' level work is unbelievable.

We all need these models in the sim. We are short of them immensely. Instead of complaining about the quality of 'free' stuff, get to work on something.

Agreed. The mods are very nicely done and are provided free of charge to everyone.

Love to see those who complain try to make even one as nicely as the 100+ Currenthill has made.

My thoughts exactly. We need them. Doesn't matter if a bolt or a grill is miss placed by a few cm. For a mod made at home, they are unbelievably nice; to look at and having in the sim.

So, the inner wheels should be slighty wider ? That´s your criticism ?
I`m not sure what I´m supposed to look at with the Iskander.

Both the T-90 and the Iskander look fantastic to me and I´m really looking forward to these assets.
I think you have to tone down your expectations to a realistic level. Most of the time, people are looking at these through a targeting pod from 10 miles away.
And I think it´s really unfair to the developers to call these "very bad" or "made by a schoolboy" - these are very high quality models.

Thanks ED and @currenthill for your work on the assets, this is great news

Thank you CH.

I enjoy the assets you brought to this sim. The Iranian fast boats are a joy to sink. 😃

Is ED breaking new ground? I don't really understand the approach. Currenthill hasn't created a single model himself. At least, none that I know of. All models have been acquired or purchased. If I'm wrong, there was no requirement for original work to be done in order to adopt mods.

I don't care how or who does it, the more the better.

How do you know ? They´re not added yet.

From the FAQ:
Q6: Are the new core assets the same assets as in the Currenthill mod packs?
A6: No. The library of new core assets are based off of the inventory of the Currenthill mod packs, but each asset are carefully chosen to be added to DCS. Each new core asset are implemented mostly from scratch to uphold a specific consistent standard of things like mesh and textures quality, animations, FLIR textures, LODs, destroyed models etc.

He made it up himself, that the models are bad

Yes, also pay attention to the proportions of the turret.

Any  clue about  Admiral 189  naval stuff ?  This moder builds impressive ships also

Too amateurish level, especially in terms of materials and textures (because he makes the models himself and doesn't buy ready-made ones),   and also irregularity of work. He is a classic modder, and CH is more reminiscent of the work of a professional studio.

Great news, especially the assets - and especially being part of the core game for free. Absolutely fantastic. I have a strangely good vibes about the last couple of DCS updates, quite a lot of bug fixes... maybe because a few fixes important for me were added, but still. I like the updates since the version unification quite a lot, including the cadence, etc. Keep up the good work.

Strange combination: so careful about critiquing others work, so careless about formatting the post's text... You know you can hit 'edit' and remove the unwanted 'null' entries, don't you?

You are of course right.

The rims of the road wheels on the model (a part of the real tank that can only be seen by crouching down close to the ground just in front of and beside it) are slightly narrower relative to the total width of the wheels than the rims of the actual tank.

Obviously the fact that if you position the camera in game in such a position (on the ground very close to and at 45 degrees to the tank ) & you pause the game and happen to have a drawing of the actual tank handy to compare to - you might notice this - renders the model completely unsuitable for use in a combat sim where that you normally only get to see LOD2 of the tank model anyway.

You've inspired me - I'm off to check the width of the flanges on the wheels of the steam trains in the WWII maps.

Don't bother. The train wheels are not even riding on the actual rails on Caucasus. They use bigger train gauge.

There's always room for improvement. As long as the trains run on tracks only it's good enough for me. They are only there to be bombed away anyway 😀

Just a quick Note about Trains im not trying to drift off topic -

There was a problem with Trains being sunk into the tracks on some maps.

This has now been fixed in an update.

As far as i can tell the DCS Maps have had their Rail Track Database heights reset to zero .

Decoded that means great news the DCS trains all run on the tracks at the correct height.

If you want the Trains to be the correct gauge thats a different matter build your own i guess ?

E.G. I have a cute little animated 0-6-0 Sugarmill Locomotive im hacking together and i will adjust it for the new narrow gauge track on New Marianas WW2 map.

Marianas WW2 will be interesting with its narrow gauge sugar mill steam trains.

Have Fun !

The most obvious and simple way is to resize the rail texture but then the bridge model will be wrong with their actual rails. Are the train models oversized a bit? Idk but it's way more work to correct it now - so I guess take it as it is and better luck with the new maps 🙂

Interesting they do look like it but -

I just compaired the DCS class 86 and my work in progress Lord Howe actual size Loco in the Model Viewer and also in DCS see the pictures.

Results are - 1. Fact - German class 86 Locomotive is 8 inches taller and 10 inches wider in real life.

                   - 2. Correct - DCS class 86 is 8 inches taller and 10 inches wider in DCS and the Model Viewer.

So the German Locomotives and rolling stock do look a fair bit larger than the standard British ones in the Simulator.

You can even skip the "null" all together. When you paste LCtrl+V in the text field, below the post, press paste as plain text. Then click on the thumbnail to put the picture anywhere in the post. With this procedure, it's much easier to edit posts in general. Especially long ones with lots of pictures, and the chance you will end up with a post that lost all it's text is waaaaay less. 😉

Cheers!
