element1108 Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 I'm not pitching DCS include a transport chopper module in anyway I'm just curious to know how many DCS players would enjoy a logistical role such as troop carrier, supply drops etc in transport type helicopters. If it's something you're interested in, what would be your helicopter of choice and why? It's surprising when I play ARMA 2 how many dedicated troop transports players there are. They literally ferry troops to and from the LZ non stop. Pretty sure it would be something I would enjoy especially with armed escorts.
Ramstein Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 I have been working on night transport missions.. I was more interested in the navigation aspects of cargo and transport under cover of darkness.. I just feel like there are many aspects of this sim that can be explored instead of the same ole missions.. :joystick: ASUS Strix Z790-H, i9-13900, WartHog HOTAS and MFG Crosswind G.Skill 64 GB Ram, 2TB SSD EVGA Nvidia RTX 2080-TI (trying to hang on for a bit longer) 55" Sony OLED TV, Oculus VR
Killin Duck Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 Hi, I really enjoyed flying with the Black Hawk on Jane's Longbow 2. Sure it will not have the "cool factor" of flying a super duper attack helo but I really enjoy transport duty. Speaking of Longbow 2, flying the Kiowa was also a great experience. Greets.
Kirai Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 It would be awesome. I'm more into flying so it would indeed be great :) Go Ugly Early
MBot Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 Flying transports with a good simulation of slingloads would be pretty interesting. C-SAR would also be sweet.
joey45 Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 (edited) Probaly an idea for a 3rd party mod team to do when the tools become avalible. Probaly a Chinhook, Pavehawk/Low or a Lynx. Kwill Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 Hell yeah, I'd love to have transport helicopters. ED is never going to develop such a sim though, it'd have to be a mod or something.
Inseckt Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 I would love it... I'd pay for a blackhawk anyday... Escpesically* those turbulent stormy nights... *Spelling??? Help Beczl with his DCS MiG-21Bis project by Pre-Ordering DCS MiG-21Bis module NOW! CLICK HERE TO GO TO PRE-ORDER PAGE AT INDIEGOGO
Allo Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 I some-times(most times) load Black Shark up just to flying around. If I had to pick one for transport missions, the CH-53 Sea Stallion would be it. That thing can carry almost anything. Other contenders(troop carriers)...... Black Hawk Puma Iroquois And last but not least, can't forget The Hind. Panzertard Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 Yes - Yes - Yes - aw, yes! We need the ability to do SAR (in MP)! ;) The mind is like a parachute. It only works when it's open | The important thing is not to stop questioning
JDski Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 I used to love flying the Huey in Battlefield Vietnam to carry grunts and light tanks to the front. Not really a sim in respects to DCS, but I enjoyed the logistics aspect of it. The problem though in that game was survivability, so the feature wasn't able to be used very often.
sinelnic Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 I´d love realistic Med-Evac (or SAR) but that would indeed require collidable and non look-through/shoot through trees. btaft Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 I just finished ready a book on the PJs (None Braver) during operation anaconda and that would be pretty fun role to play.....a lot of night flying. Book was pretty decent as well
JG14_Smil Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 absolutely! Medics too to save ejected pilots. I like flying sim helos.. I can take or leave blowing things up.

joey45 Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 (edited) [thinking] could be possible if a 3rd party made the chopper [say the Blackhawk], including the C/P damage and everything for it, to the standerd of ED's flyables and ED could do the FM..... maybe...... or not. Stickers Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 This is what I mostly do when I play ARMA 2 online now. I love the concept of moving troops around. I would kill for an MH-53 in any game.
Rhino4 Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 My opinion: It's a combat sim. Leave this type of stuff for FSX addons...
159th_Falcon Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 Especially Hoist and Sling operations would be interesting. And what type of Chopper i would love to fly with in that perspective? The Sikorsky S61-N :joystick:(or sea king, is same just modified for military use) Would be nice to have the option of flying the original S61-N or the updated one whit beefed up engines, glass cockpit and composite blades.:pilotfly: (The S61 has unmatched auto-hover stability systems up to this day, its agile as an Bird yet solid as an Rock) [sIGPIC][/sIGPIC] The keeper of all mathematical knowledge and the oracle of flight modeling.:)
element1108 Posted August 24, 2009 Author Posted August 24, 2009 My opinion: It's a combat sim. Leave this type of stuff for FSX addons... Understandable, but with all due respect logistics is almost as important to combat operations than physical combat itself. I can imagine it'll never be on DCS actual radar (they've got their plate full of requests as it is)...I'm just curious to see who would like to see something like this in the DCS setting. The future as of right now is DCS, major FSX development is now non existant.

ARM505 Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 It's awesome in ARMA (now 2), because you can chat to the people you're carrying, and they're actually doing something when you get them to where they want to go, ie you really feel like you're making a difference and achieving something - in DCS it would be a pretty dead experience. Because of ARMA's 'combined arms' nature, it can create a fairly unique playing experience. Just don't look for high fidelity though, but a lot of fun can be had nonetheless.
Celo63 Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 I'm a "yes" vote for support roles. I'd happily run "bullets and beans" missions from time to time. Types:- Chinook, CH-53, MI-24 and Puma would be nice but I'll gratefully fly anything that comes our way.
Celo63 Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 My opinion: It's a combat sim. Leave this type of stuff for FSX addons... You fly the escort, we'll haul the grunts. Fair deal? We can all be happy :D
