Dear Fighter Pilots, Partners and Friends,

The OnReTech team is pleased to announce the DCS: Balkans map that will cover the Balkans, the Adriatic Sea and coast of Italy. Read the details below and check out the development screenshots. The Balkans map will add a new temperate map to DCS that will provide exciting scenarios for aircraft such as the F-16C and MiG-29A.

Thank you for your passion and support.

Yours sincerely,

Eagle Dynamics

Balkans Map

Announcement

Hero1.png

In partnership with OnReTech and following the very successful launch of the DCS: Sinai map, the DCS: Balkans map will allow the recreation of NATO operations over former Yugoslavia from 1991 to 2001. You will be able to fly as either Serbian or NATO air force pilots over this varied and historically important theater. The map will feature picturesque coastlines and numerous islands of the Adriatic Sea. Additionally, dramatic mountain ranges including the Dinaric Alps, the Apennines and the Dolomites. As well as deep forest valleys, rivers, lakes, forests and fields. OnReTech is creating an impressively wide variety of landscapes across the Balkans and Italy.

The urban centers are as diverse as the natural landscape with the stunning city of Venice, the medieval town of Dubrovnik, the bustling ports of Trieste, Bari and Rijeka, and the cities of Belgrade, Zagreb and Podgorica all included. Wide highways and rail lines connect the big cities and small villages and settlements dotted across the map.

OnReTech is currently working on important military airfields located in Italy, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Kosovo. This includes Aviano Air Base, an Italian Air Force base that is home to the US Air Force's 31st Fighter Wing that flies the F-16C. Civilian airports such as the Venice Marco Polo Airport, one of the largest in Italy are also being modelled.

The map is planned to be available in 2026. For the latest updates on its development, please visit the DCS OnReTech forum thread. We look forward to your feedback and wishes for this long-awaited map.

Map area that is subject to change.

The green area denotes high and medium detail and the amber area denotes low detail area.

This is going to be a Fun and interesting map to make missions for and fly on. IF I could make one Wish though. is that the map size would be stretched south and east a bit more. mostly to get most of the greek islands and stuff on there. and a certain area that leads into the Black-Sea. that is my personal wish though, and I'll understand if that's going to be too much work for one map. but it would make the map even more interesting for someone like me. that and the fact I think it would open up some Naval stuff a little bit more. though just a little ofc.

Otherwise. thank you for the update with the image of the map.

Oh wow! I'm super excited for this map! What a surprise! I was stationed at Camp Bondsteel in 2010. It was a beautiful country. Can't wait to fly laps around the map for hours with the C-130J!

I'm very curious to see if air bases in southern Germany, Hungary, Slovakia, Romania, and Bulgaria are also included. It could be really nice for Cold War missions...

Although not as frequently as the Italian bases but two airbases in Hungary were also involved.
TASZAR Airbase was busy as a logistic hub receiving many transport aircraft. Also reconnaissance operations with USAF Predators operating from the base.
KECSKEMET Airbase was doing daily CAP operations with MiG-29 aircraft.

Oh good it includes areas around Villach where we used to go on holiday, with frequent excursions into Italy and Slovenia.

Who can forget heading over the pass back into Austria and meeting the Slovenian T34 sitting at the head of the pass as a gate guardian 🙂

Also a shame in DCS we don't have quite the right block of F16C for 31st fighter wing stationed in Aviano. They had block 40's in the 90s and i think even to present day still do.

So most of Italy is in but in low details. Don't get me wrong, Rome didn't have anything to do with the war in the Balkans. But still will be odd flying over Italy and it will just be green textures.
