FYI the cloud shadow bug has existed ever since LockOn was made, and it affects nVidia and ATi cards equally, and it's not a new bug with FC2.0.

I'm having the same cloud stutter issue:

I've got a relatively decent PC:

i5 750 Quad Core @ 3.8GHz (100% stable)

8GB DDR3 @ 1600MHz

4870x2

TrackIR 4 Pro

2 x 128GB SSD for OS and game installs

Win7 Ultimate 64-bit edition

I'm running at 1920 x 1080, everything maxed except water at normal, mirrors off, 4xAA, 4xAF. The game generally runs very smooth, but overcast clouds bring the frame rates plummeting. Performance is fine when I'm above or below them, but as soon as I get within about 200 metres of the clouds, my frame rate starts going all over the place - dropping down very low then increasing, then dropping, increasing, etc until I pull away from the cloud layer.

It happens on any mission I've flown with clouds (F15 campaign mission #2 and SU25 bad weather solo mission) - while the rest of the mission stays around 60fps, as soon as I get close to the clouds the jerk-fest begins.

I remember this was a problem with the original LOMAC, but a cloud mod fixed the problem. Unfortunately I've just tried Bobocop overcast cloud mod 3.1 and it doesn't work with FC2, removing clouds entirely.

Any suggestions or overcast mods that work with FC2?

hi guys,

I don't know what this is.. but it disables completely the heat blur whether it's on in the settings or not.. 1.0 disables it, the sub values ( 0.5,0.7,an even 0,9) enable it.By the way.The heat blur effect doesn't have any performance impact on my rig which i find really strange..FYI..

Thanks :) i am updating my cumulative graphics solutions thread with this. Although i wish the cloud cast shadows on the ground would still remain (as they did in LO when choosing planar shadows option) http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=870072#post870072

I tried this setting for a few minutes and the only change I ve seen in clouds is that after a few seconds I show that clouds at close&medium distance were moving with a slight stutter. When I set it back to 0.03 the stutter was no more at all ranges. Long distance clouds were never moving I think.

I tried this at Su-25T Quick Mission.

Salute all!

I discovered the same thing than isoul ...

It seems, than in case of 0,03, my fps is drop down ... If the value is 1, the fsp is ok, but the clouds are stuttering ...

So I just start to decreasing this value ...

0,5 - FPS is ok, smaller stuttering ...

0,1 - FPS ok, very small stuttering :)

So I leave it on 0,1 ...

Try this and please comment it.

I too, have this issue on my end. Clear skies I average around 50 and with clouds on I get low 30's accompanied by alot of stutter.

E8400 @ 3.6Ghz, 4GB OCZ, ATI 4870HD 512MB, Win7x64Ultimate

EDIT: After testing sisifos workaround It seems that I average around 50 just like as if there weren't clouds.

I hope this info might help ED eradicate this issue. If you need my DxDiag I will gladly post it.

I have just got FC2, have almost the same system specs:

E8400 @ 3.5G, 4G RAM, ATI 4850, Win7 64 Bit.

I get the same stutteing with clouds I just tried a flight where there was total cloud cover below 3000 ft, and framerate was about half what it normally is. I am going to go and see if it exists without clouds. Then try the workaround incase that makes a difference.

I post because I have almost the same system and this may help ED to narrow the problem down.

hmm are you sure? im positive it doesnt, not for me anyway...

Oh and beware, the above tweak severely messes up the cloud animations (as already mentioned above). Makes them jiggle like clock arms as you fly over them... a big NO GO IMO... unless you really need frames... which btw i havent noticed a single frame boost with this tweak...

id personally recommend to stay off it! or mabe set a value of 0.05-0.1

exactly, works for me

seems to work different for any setup, like a lot of edits that arent real mods

I too have terrible FPS drop and stuttering with any clouds...It actually makes my game unplayable and, while I don't have the greatest system, I got incredible FPS with 1.12b at medium and high settings

Maybe a ATI card issue?

tried lowering the settings in the catalyst control center . i put use applications settings (let application decide) and it works like in 1.12 with little lags but playable . but you have an 80s game plane , i mean no screen shot art opportunity . don't know if it's a bug but on my i3 4 ddr3 density 9+ is too ressources demanding . and the most strange it's that after a few moment the game crashes but it doesn't crash to desktop , first time i see that ? if it's not a bug ED you should think of releasing a less ressources demanding clouds textures set because it's unplayable (AA 4x , AF 8x)
